Modelling Image Semantic Descriptions from Web 2.0 Documents using a Hybrid Approach.
With the increasing amount of multimedia content on the web added as user generated content in Web 2.0 websites, conventional multimedia information retrieval is presented with new challenges. It is no longer possible to rely only on meta-data based retrieval but to consider also content based techniques combined with the collective knowledge generated by users’ contributions and geo-referenced meta-data. Tagging is a modest way to annotate such documents and fails to capture a full semantic description of the document content. This report concerns ongoing research to investigate a means to identify, model and utilise semantic descriptions of the user-generated content in Web 2.0 documents using a hybrid approach. The approach consists of three main components, natural language processing, image analysis and a shared knowledge base. In this paper we describe the complete model but, as the image analysis component is in its early stages, the results focus on the natural language processing and the knowledge base. We show that the additional use of these components can improve retrieval and analysis performance over that based only on Web 2.0 tags
Analysing the content of Web 2.0 documents by using a hybrid approach
User involvement in Web 2.0 has made a significant contribution to the increase in the amount of multimedia content on the Web. Images are one of the most used media, shared across the network to mark user experience in daily life. Interactive applications have allowed users to participate in describing these images, usually in the form of free text, thus gradually enriching the images' descriptions. Nevertheless, often these images are left with crude or no description. Web search engines such as Google and Yahoo provide text based searching to find images by mapping query concepts with the text description of the image, thus limiting the information discovery to material with good text descriptions. A similar issue is faced by text based search provided by Web 2.0 applications. Images with less description might not contain adequate information while images with no description will be useless as they will become unsearchable by a text based search. Therefore, there is an urgent need to investigate ways to produce high quality information to provide insight into the document content. The aim of this research is to investigate a means to improve the capability of information retrieval by utilizing Web 2.0 content, the Semantic Web and other emerging technologies. A hybrid approach is proposed which analyses two main aspects of Web 2.0 content, namely text and images. The text analysis consists of using Natural Language Processing and ontologies. The aim of the text analysis is to translate free text descriptions into a semantic information model tailored to Semantic Web standards. Image analysis is developed using machine learning tools and is assessed using ROC analysis. The aim of the image analysis is to develop an image classifier exemplar to identify information in images based on their visual features. The hybrid approach is evaluated based on standard information retrieval performance metrics, precision and recall. The example semantic information model has structured and enriched the textual content thus providing better retrieval results compared to conventional tag based search. The image classifier is shown to be useful for providing additional information about image content. Each of the approaches has its own strengths and they complement each other in different scenarios. The thesis demonstrates that the hybrid approach has improved information retrieval performance compared to either of the contributing techniques used separately
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. PENERAPAN STRATEGI REACT UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KEMAMPUAN BERPIKIR KREATIF DAN KOMUNIKASI MATEMATIS SISWA SMAN 1 BANDA ACEH
ABSTRAKLailatul Qadri (2019). Kemampuan Berpikir Kreatif dan Komunikasi Matematis Siswa melalui Penerapan Strategi REACT di SMA 1 Banda Aceh.Kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan komunikasi matematis penting untuk menumbuhkan kemampuan dalam diri siswa menggunakan pola pikir matematika dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Kondisi saat ini memperlihatkan bahwa siswa masih mengalami kendala dalam menyelesaikan soal matematika yang berkaitan dengan kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan komunikasi matematis. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan strategi pembelajaran matematika sehingga dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan komunikasi matematis siswa. Strategi yang dapat diterapkan yaitu melalui Relating, Experiencing, Applying, Cooperating, dan Transferring (REACT). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan komunikasi matematis siswa melalui pembelajaran dengan strategi REACT. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu pendekatan kuantitatif dengan jenis eksperimen. Sampel penelitian adalah siswa kelas X MIA-3 SMAN 1 Banda Aceh sebagai kelas eksperimen yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan strategi REACT dan siswa kelas X MIA-1 SMAN 1 Banda Aceh sebagai kelas kontrol yang memperoleh pembelajaran secara konvensional. Instrumen penelitian ini yaitu tes kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan tes kemampuan komunikasi matematis. Teknik analisis data menggunakan uji perbedaan rata-rata dua sampel yaitu uji independent sample t-test dengan bantuan SPSS versi 16. Hasil penelitian menunjukkkan bahwa peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan komunikasi matematis siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran melalui strategi REACT lebih baik dari pada peningkatan berpikir kreatif dan komunikasi matematis siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran secara konvensional pada taraf sig. 0,000 < 0,05 (? = 0,05).Kata Kunci : Kemampuan berpikir kreatif matematis, Kemampuan komunikasi matematis, Strategi REACT

SIMULASI CRASH PROGRAM-PROJECT PLANNING & SCHEDULLING PEMBANGUNAN RUMAH SUSUN (Studi Kasus : Keterlambatan Proyek Pembangunan Pondok Pesantren 2,5 Lantai Kota Padang )
Keterlambatan dalam dunia konstruksi termasuk masalah fenomena global yang sering terjadi pada proyek konstruksi di beberapa negara dan tidak terkecuali di Indonesia. Jika dalam pengerjaan suatu pekerjaan mengalami keterlambatan ,maka dapat diatasi dengan melakukan percepatan (Crash) pengerjaan proyek. Crash Program merupakan salah satu metode untuk mengoptimalkan waktu dengan cara mempercepat jadwal pekerjaan. Crash Program dilakukan dengan pengaturan jam kerja,jumlah pekerja, metode pengerjaan dimaksudkan untuk mengurangi waktu pekerjaan namun tetap mempertahankan jumlah produktivitas dan jumlah tenaga kerja. Berdasarkan hasil analisis simulasi dengan penambahan jumlah tenaga kerja senbanyak 40,50,60,70,80,90 dan 100 pekerja yang dilakukan pada Proyek Pembangunan Pondok Pesantren ( Paket III ) Kota Padang tahun 2018 didapatkan bahwa: Best Scenario yang dipilih yaitu dengan menggunakan 100 pekerja yang selesai pada 3 Januari 2019 selama 102 hari dan biayanya termasuk denda sebesar Rp Rp937.673.710,92. Sedangkan kondisi eksisting dengan menggunakan simulasi 40 pekerja maka proyek akan selesai pada 15 Mei 2019 selama 234 hari dengan biaya termasuk denda sebesar Rp1.598.993.950,97 . Sehingga dengan jumlah pekerja sebanyak 100 pekerja akan dapat menyelesaikan proyek tersebut lebih cepat dengan biaya yang lebih rendah dari simulasi kondisi eksisting.
