    Статтю присвячено пам’ятi видатного українського математика i педагога, одного iз засновникiв київської школи теорiї зображень i теорiї кiлець, професора Київського нацiонального унiверситету iменi Тараса Шевченка Володимира Васильовича Кириченка.The paper is dedicated to the memory of an outstanding ukrainian mathematician and teacher, one of the founders of Kyiv school of representation theory and ring theory, professor of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv Volodymyr Vasylovych Kyrychenko. Volodymyr Vasylovych was born in 1942 in Penza. He graduated Kyiv University with honors in 1964. He defended his PhD thesis "Representations of hereditary, completely decomposable and Bass orders" under the supervision of D.K. Faddeev. He defended his habilitation "Modules and structural theory of rings" in 1986. He started to work at Kyiv University as an assistant of the Algebra and Mathematical Logic Department in 1967. Since then he served as an Associate Professor and Professor of the Algebra and Mathematical Logic Department. He was the head of the Geometry Department from 1988 till 2016. His main scientific results lay in the field of structural ring theory. In particular, he introduced the notion of the quiver for some special casses of rings and developed the structural theory of hereditary semiserial semidistributive rings. He is the author of about 250 scientific papers and 5 fundamental monographies. In his monographies the theory of semiperfect rings is presented by means of corresponding quivers. The monography "Finite dimensional algebras" written jointly with professor Y. Drozd is regarded one of the classical works in algebra and translated from Russian to Chineese, English and Spanish. e was an outstanding teacher and 36 PhD thesis were defended under his supervision. His lectures on analytical geometry and ring theory were always top ranked among students. Professor Kyrychenko was one of the founders of the journal "Algebra and Discrete Mathematics". He was an editor of a couple of mathematical journals. In 1997 he was one of the founders of the series of international algebraic conferences in Ukraine that were conducted every two years. Since that he was one of the main organizers of each of them

    A response to unfounded criticisms of Burkey and Obeng (2004) made by the IIHS (2005)

    Abstract: The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety mailed an essay written by Richard Retting and Sergey Kyrychenko (IIHS, 2005) to many universities and individuals where they accused my coauthor and me of being Junk Scientists. This has become a typical pattern for the IIHS, attacking every study that fails to find a benefit of Red Light Cameras, but never criticizing work that supports their beliefs. In this paper I defend my work against their claims, and pose the question: Who are the real junk scientists?Red Light Camera; Intersection Safety;

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    No full text
    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Author Under Sail The Imagination of Jack London, 1893-1902

    No full text
    In Author Under Sail, Jay Williams offers the first complete literary biography of Jack London as a professional writer engaged in the labor of writing. It examines the authorial imagination in London's work, the use of imagination in both his fiction and nonfiction, and the ways he defined imagination in the creative process in his business dealings with his publishers, editors, and agents. In this first volume of a two-volume biography, Williams traverses the years 1893 to 1902, from London's "Story of a Typhoon" to The People of the Abyss. The Jack London who emerges in the pages of Author Under Sail is a writer whose partnership with publishers, most notably his productive alliance with George Brett of Macmillan, was one of the most formative in American literary history. London pioneered many author models during the heyday of realism and naturalism, blurring the boundaries of these popular genres by focusing on absorption and theatricality and the representation of the seen and unseen. London created an impassioned, sincere, and extremely personal realism unlike that of other American writers of the time. Author Under Sail is a literary tour de force that reveals the full range of London as writer, creative citizen, and entrepreneur at the same time it sheds light on the maverick side of machine-age literature.Intro -- Title Page -- Copyright Page -- Dedication -- Contents -- Acknowledgments -- Introduction -- 1. THE VALUE OF POLYMORPHISM + 3725G / C TLR4 GENE AS A MARKER OF LIVER FIBROSIS PROGRESSION IN PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC HEPATITIS C T. I. Bevz1, D. F. Kyrychenko1, G. A. Martynyuk2 1National Pirogov Memorial Medical University, Vinnytsya, Ukraine 2Central city hospital, Rivne, Ukraine Abstract As a rule, chronic hepatitis C is manifested by the development of successive stages of liver fibrosis with the formation of eventually cirrhosis and liver cancer. However, in some patients the fibrosis progresses slowly, while in others there is a rapid formation of cirrhosis, which causes high mortality among such patients. According to published data, despite a fairly large number of studies regarding liver cirrhosis in chronic hepatitis C, factors contributing to liver fibrogenesis have not been definitively determined. The available data are quite contradictory. In this article, we review studies have assessed the TLR4 + 3725G/C gene polymorphism as a factor that may influence the rate of fibrotic progression. The research will build new approach for avoiding fast fibrogenesis. Key words: HCV; chronic hepatitis C; liver fibrosis; cirrhosis; TLR4 gene; viral load
