“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    koamabayili/VECTRON-author-checklist: VECTRON author checklist

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

This work, based on the available bibliography and archive sources, synthesises some fundamental facts related to the first years after the foundation of the institution and the character of its founder. The author also attempts to establish the place of this religious house in Braga’s social and religious contexts and in the cyclical changes experienced by the beatérios of the Iberian Peninsula. Finally, the author proposes some explanations for the specific kind of spirituality practised by the devout sisters of Campo da Vinha (Beatas do Campo da Vinha) and the longevity of this institution

Open access self-archiving: An author study

    No full text
This, our second author international, cross-disciplinary study on open access had 1296 respondents. Its focus was on self-archiving. Almost half (49%) of the respondent population have self-archived at least one article during the last three years. Use of institutional repositories for this purpose has doubled and usage has increased by almost 60% for subject-based repositories. Self-archiving activity is greatest amongst those who publish the largest number of papers. There is still a substantial proportion of authors unaware of the possibility of providing open access to their work by self-archiving. Of the authors who have not yet self-archived any articles, 71% remain unaware of the option. With 49% of the author population having self-archived in some way, this means that 36% of the total author population (71% of the remaining 51%), has not yet been appraised of this way of providing open access. Authors have frequently expressed reluctance to self-archive because of the perceived time required and possible technical difficulties in carrying out this activity, yet findings here show that only 20% of authors found some degree of difficulty with the first act of depositing an article in a repository, and that this dropped to 9% for subsequent deposits. Another author worry is about infringing agreed copyright agreements with publishers, yet only 10% of authors currently know of the SHERPA/RoMEO list of publisher permissions policies with respect to self-archiving, where clear guidance as to what a publisher permits is provided. Where it is not known if permission is required, however, authors are not seeking it and are self-archiving without it. Communicating their results to peers remains the primary reason for scholars publishing their work; in other words, researchers publish to have an impact on their field. The vast majority of authors (81%) would willingly comply with a mandate from their employer or research funder to deposit copies of their articles in an institutional or subject-based repository. A further 13% would comply reluctantly; 5% would not comply with such a mandate

The thesis shows the trajectories and the (in)tense reality of students, teachers and administrators who crisscrossed, enlaced and intertwined their lives in the Knowledge Connections Program of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul - UFRGS, in the period 2005 to 2009. It invokes and provokes a reflection on the ethical, aesthetic and affective provisions manifested in the actions and in the togetherness, the narrations and the testimonies of the lives of those who made and shaped this Program. It highlights the ways that have provided and maintained, (dis)potentialized and (un)worsened and given vigor and vitality to its realization. By listening to the testimonies of the life of students, teachers, administrators, this work exposes the disposition of its author to be listening in on life in its multiple relationships and its inter-laced destinations. To this end, it employs methodological procedures such as memorials, testimonies of life, individual and group interviews (focus group), compilation and analysis of documents, a diary of reflections and other records. The study is configured and focused on a way to do research that permits to be surprised by the mundane, with the trajectory that is shown, with life as it is; as pertains to an open and sensitive reason, to a sociology that is understanding and tender as shaped by Michel Maffesoli, and to Form and Sociology of social forms by Georg Simmel. The paths of life are intertwined beginning from the traces and marks of family and school, of the relations of work and study, community engagement, the choice of courses, the University entrance exam, the entry into higher education, living in the University. The discussion focuses on (1) identification processes and ethics evident in the testimonies, narrations and togetherness, (2) the (in)tense relations lived by the actors who produced the “Connections”, (3) both characterized by conflict as a form of sociation (Vergellschaftung) (Simmel) and transfigured by the power of politics, education, ethics, aestheticism, affectation

COMO VER O EU (CO-MOVER O OUTRO?): CONCEITOS DE AUTOR EM MICHEL FOUCAULT E MIKHAIL BAKHTIN

Mikhail Bakhtin and Michel Foucault are figures often invoked to discuss the author in literary theory. However, the two approaches are distinct. While for Bakhtin the author is an aesthetic principle, for Foucault he is a function. This article reconstructs these divergences, showing that Bakhtin, unlike Foucault, distinguishes aesthetic exploitation from biographical configuration, author-creator from author-person. I locate the fundamental distinctions in their notions of author in the way these two thinkers view the “other.” If the “fear of subjectivation” makes Foucault a pessimist in relation to the other, in Bakhtin the notion of interaction between two consciousnesses as the basis of all human relations highlights the expectation of goodwill towards the other. Thus, while Foucault\u27s concept of authorship results from a search to free the self from the other that subjugates it (placing them in opposing camps), in Bakhtin the author is rather a search to complete the self in the other that frees it (from solipsism). One authorship, negative, is of confrontation; the other, positive, is of encounter. &nbsp

This paper aims to discuss the production of human movement response (K) in the protocols of the Rorschach test of a sample of painters in the city of Belém do Pará Based on the relationship between the perception of human movement and the creative imagination, proposed by Hermann Rorschach, author of the test, and further studies that undermine this concept, under some conditions, providing another alternative meanings, we analyzed the frequency and quality of responses K of these artists. The purpose was to try to find a direct relationship of the creative imagination of individuals with the frequency and quality of this category of responses. The application of the test was done individually, with the consent of each participant and the results show that the production and diversity of K responses were below our expectations, there was no correlation between the production of K and the creative imagination of individuals. It has also pointed to the possibility of creative imagination, the Rorschach, is evidence not only for K responses, but also through other personality factors measured by the test.
