Fertility Rates and Skill Distribution in Razin and Sadka's Migration-Pension Model: A Note
Razin and Sadka (1999) show that unskilled immigration is beneficial to all income and all age groups in society, even if immigrants are net beneficiaries of the welfare system. Among other things, this result rests on the assumptions that immigrants have the same reproduction rate as the native population and that the immigrants' offspring has the same distribution of skills as the natives' offspring. By relaxing these assumptions, we show that the Razin and Sadka result is no longer unambiguous
Bistatic TerraSAR-X/F-SAR Spaceborne-Airborne SAR Experiment: Description, Data Processing and Results
We report about the first X-band spaceborne-airborne bistatic SAR experiment,
using the German satellite TerraSAR-X as transmitter and DLR's new airborne
radar system F-SAR as receiver. The data were acquired early November 2007.
The importance of the experiment is not only due to its pioneering character, but
also due to its potential to serve as a test-bed for the validation of
non-stationary bistatic acquisition procedures, novel calibration and
synchronisation algorithms, and advanced imaging techniques, as required
for future non-synchronised bistatic SAR missions.
High-resolution bistatic imaging requires in general a perfect synchronisation of the
radar systems, which in the present case is achieved by evaluating the range
histories of several reference targets. After synchronisation, non-stationary
focussing is performed using a bistatic backprojection approach.
Benefiting from the flexibility of both acquisition systems, stand-alone TerraSAR-X
monostatic as well as interoperated TerraSAR-X/F-SAR bistatic data sets have been
recorded; the simultaneous availability of monostatic and bistatic images will help
to understand their similarities and differences. As expected, the bistatic
image shows a space-variant behaviour in spatial resolution and
signal-to-noise ratio; both outperform their monostatic
counterparts in almost the complete imaged scene.
A detailed comparison between the monostatic and bistatic images is
given, illustrating the complementarity of both measurements in terms of
available backscattered energy and Doppler information
Optimal reorientation of geophysical sensors: A quaternion-based analytical solution
One of the most critical problems affecting geophysical data acquisition procedures is related to the misorientation of multicomponent sensors with respect to a common reference system (e.g., geographic north). In many applications, misoriented sensors affect data analysis procedures, leading to errors in results and interpretations. These problems generally occur in applications where the orientation of the sensor cannot be actively controlled and is not known a priori, e.g., geophysical sensors deployed in borehole installations or on the seafloor. We have developed a quaternion-based method for the optimal reorientation of multicomponent geophysical sensors. In contrast to other approaches, we took into account the full time-series record from all sensor components. Therefore, our method could be applied to all time-series data and was not restricted to a certain type of geophysical sensor. Our method allows the robust calculation of relative reorientations between two-component or three-component sensors. By using a reference sensor in an iterative process, this result can be extended to the estimation of absolute sensor orientations. In addition to finding an optimal solution for a full 3D sensor rotation, we have established a rigorous scheme for the estimation of uncertainties of the resulting orientation parameters. We tested the feasibility and applicability of our method using synthetic data examples for a vertical seismic profile and an ocean bottom seismometer array. We noted that the quaternion-based reorientation method is superior to the standard approach of a single- parameter estimation of rotation angles

Xanthopimpla spiloptera Krieger 1914
Xanthopimpla spiloptera Krieger 1914 (Figs. 5 f, 6 f, 7 f) Original description. See Krieger (1914). Re-description in English. See Townes (1969). Diagnosis. This species can be distinguished from all other Neotropical Xanthopimpla by the combination of the following characters: 1) occipital carina complete dorsally; 2) propodeum with posterior transverse carina strongly angulate; 3) ovipositor sheath about 0.55 to 0.75 times as long as hind tibia; and 4) fore wing strongly infumate apically. Interval maps from Cuntz-Krieger algebras
Markov interval maps f naturally produce transition aperiodic 0–1 matrices with extra features. We characterize the 0–1 matrices that can be realized as Markov transition matrices of interval maps, and parametrize the orbit representations (yielded in Correia Ramos et al. (2008) [2]) of the Cuntz–Krieger algebra OA obtained from interval maps with the same matrix A
