This paper will analyze the representation of the two main urban spaces present in the novel Desencajada, by the Spanish author of Ukrainian origin Margaryta Yakovenko: Barcelona and Mariúpol.
Many critics have placed Boccaccio and Machiavelli side by side. Chronologically, the first text we find is a letter written by Girolamo Muzio in 1535. Besides the presence of the Decameron in Mandragola, the influence is further underlined as we allow Clizia to guide the study. In this work Machiavelli seems to distance himself and flee from ironically Boccaccio-esque situations that he himself had created just slightly earlier in order to take refuge in extremely flat and composed language. This sober language which imitated Plautus and Terrence was becoming dominant at the time. In this line of investigation a significant passage from the translation of Andria is analyzed. Then some key themes are examined: women, old age and youth, fear of curses, the sexual skill of the characters, the linguistic waiting games involving unsettling theatrics, all of which are taken more or less literally (but always clearly) from the texts of Boccaccio. The conclusion is that in taking from Boccaccio's comedies, Machiavelli enjoys playing a game of ambiguity with the terms used. This ambiguity may seem to be of the same nature, but in it one author can even parody the meaning of the other author
Improving the quality of geriatric life by managing water intake: Daria: A product for hydration self-monitoring
Dehydration is a common medical condition in the elderly. This deficit in body water increases the risk of illnesses and mortality. The human body has no way of storing water which makes consistent water intake crucial. Water plays a multifaceted role, from being the medium for all bodily chemical reactions to regulating temperature and ensuring organ functionality. The challenges in the healthcare system emphasise the need for promoting independent ageing. With an increasing gap between the demand for caregivers and their availability, especially in countries like Germany, the healthcare system is on the brink of a crisis. The situation requires the development of solutions that empower the elderly to age independently, reducing the pressure on primary and secondary care systems. A significant observation is the decline in water intake with age. While younger generations have a variety of tools to monitor and motivate water intake, such products often overlook the elderly demographic. This thesis introduces "Daria", a product designed for hydration self-monitoring among the elderly. The primary stakeholder for this project is the elderly population, specifically those above 65 years who live outside care institutions.Context mapping was used to understand the elderly's daily routines and challenges related to fluid intake. Expert interviews provided insights into current medical practices and the nuances of hydration among the elderly. Functional prototyping was key in the design process, allowing for tangible testing and validation of design solutions.Literature research revealed several challenges the elderly face in maintaining optimal hydration levels. Ageing results in a reduced renal concentrating ability, diminishing the kidneys' capacity to retain water. More importantly, a decreased thirst sensation in older individuals often leads to inadequate fluid intake. Other factors, such as urinary incontinence and social isolation, further contribute to hydration difficulties.Various strategies have been explored to enhance hydration among older adults. While many interventions have been conducted in controlled environments like nursing homes, none have focused on home settings. Common strategies include verbal reminders to drink and providing a variety of beverages. In conclusion, "Daria" aims to introduce a new product category to enable hydration monitoring for the elderly. By understanding their unique challenges and habits, this product aspires to motivate them to maintain optimal hydration levels and enhance their overall quality of life.Integrated Product Desig

The article is a comprehensive analysis of the intertextual references to Frederick Schiller’s tragedy Don Carlos in Leontine Sagan’s movie Girls in Uniform (Mädchen in Uniform, 1931). The author considers the complex circumstances of the cooperation between the director and the artistic director, Carl Froelich, during the production. Moreover, she also presents the literary basis for the movie, namely the tragedy by Christy Winsloe (Gestern und Heute – Yesterday and Today). On this basis, the author analyses the multilevel presence of two phenomena in the movie: suppression and authenticity, which are related to the metaphor of Don Carlos and the plot of love between two women. The contexts for the analysis are inspired by research in the anthropology of romanticism, psychoanalysis, the psychology of sexual identity, and research on the works of Frederick Schiller.Mazur Daria, Między stłumieniem a autentycznością. Daria Semegen: Her life, work, and music
Studies of women's achievements in western musical history have expanded considerably in the past twenty years. Little research and writing, however, has concentrated on the extensive and specific study of a selected woman composer including the discussion and analysis of her works. Most notably, currently active women composers of the post-World War II modern musical era have been neglected. My work on Daria Semegen, director of the electronic music studios at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, is designed to contribute significantly to the growing amounts of analytical surveys of music by women and to serve as a model for future research by myself and other scholars. The thesis is divided into five chapters, the first four discussing Semegen's life, early education and composition, electronic works and dance collaborations, and recent instrumental pieces. The fifth chapter addresses issues that are unique to Semegen's experiences as a woman composer and her teaching philosophy and musical aesthetic. Materials in the thesis include analytical discussions of sixteen instrumental pieces and four electronic works. Study with Semegen as well as the contents of numerous phone interviews with the composer and her colleagues contribute greatly to the research.Made available in DSpace on 2011-05-07T13:44:24Z (GMT).
In Sweden, the tradition of working-class literature is stronger than in many other countries. However, the history this literature has been very masculine. Maria Sandel is sometimes called our first female working-class author. And, for a long time, she was also considered to be our only female working-class writer. Even during the Golden Age of working-class literature in the 1930s, women were few. The most famous one from this period is Moa Martinsson. Today the situation is different. The latest breakthrough for working-class literature is led by women, who, in several ways, have renewed the tradition. Daria Bogdanska, for example, has contributed to the rise of working-class comics, which is often more humoristic and explicitly political than traditional forms of working-class literature. In the exhibition, female working-class writers in Sweden are presented in a timeline, movies and dioramas. The exhibition includes the authors' works and a selection of relevant literature on the topic. A summary of research and education in the subject area at Malmö University is also included.Utställning av forskning på Orkanenbiblioteket 161124-170431</p
Influence of heat treatment on deformation behaviour of wrought Mg-Zn-based alloys
Title: Influence of heat treatment on deformation behaviour of wrought Mg-Zn alloys Author: Juraj Olejňák Department: Department of Physics of Materials Supervisor: RNDr. Mgr. Daria Drozdenko, Ph.D. Abstract: The aim of the present thesis is to understand an influence of heat treatment on microstructure and mechanical properties of extruded Mg-Zn based alloys containing an addition of Ca and Nd. Microstructural analysis provided by electron microscopy gave us information about homogeneity and distribution of precipitates in investigated Mg alloys after extrusion and a subsequent heat treatment. Microhardness and compression test along the extrusion direction have been performed to determine optimal aging conditions for achieving better mechanical properties, such as hardness and strength. The acoustic emmision technique was used to follow active deformation mechanisms during plastic deformation. Application of the acquired knowledge in material research can contribute to design novel Mg alloys with enhanced mechanical properties for specific applications. Keywords: magnesium alloys, isothermal aging, precipitation, mechanical propertie
Tweet Author Gender Identification. PAN 2016 Task
The paper presents an experiment of tweet’s author gender detection. We used PAN 2016 data and task description and have build an application that decides whether an analysed tweet has been written by man or woman. Multiple texts’ characteristics are used as features in the application, such as: references to pictures, to web pages, to other people, emojis, hashtags and a number of words that are associated with tweets written by women and men respectively. For 100 random tweets we obtained average accuracy 0.61. This is good result although it is not as good as the best one in PAN 2016 task
Microstructure stability and resulting mechanical properties of a low-alloyed Mg-Zn-Gd alloy prepared by rapid solidification
Title: Microstructure stability and resulting mechanical properties of a low-alloyed Mg-Zn-Gd alloy prepared by rapid solidification Author: Adéla Kolembusová Department: Department of Physics of Materials Supervisor: RNDr. Daria Drozdenko, Ph.D. Abstract: In this work, the thermal stability of the microstructure and the resulting mechanical properties of the low-alloyed Mg-0.56Zn-1.5Gd (at.%) alloy prepared by the rapidly solidified ribbon consolidation technique were studied. Scanning and transmission microscopy were used to characterise the microstructure in the initial state and after annealing for 2 h at various temperatures between 300 and 500 řC. The initial microstructure consists of small recrystallised grains with an average size of 550 nm and large non-recrystallised grains. Moreover, the processing technique applied to the low-alloyed Mg alloy resulted in the formation of solute- enriched stacking faults (SFs), cluster-arranged layers, and cluster-arranged nano-plates, homogeneously distributed in the grain's interior. The microstructure of the alloy remains unchanged during heat treatment up to 350 řC, and with further increase in temperature, grain growth and redistribution of the solute-enriched SFs take place. The changes in the mechanical performance of the material, revealed by..
