    No full text
Technological opportunities should be leveraged for the attainment of SDG 8 in SDG 6. In the 21st century, the majority of organizations have adopted and incorporated computer technology for the general management of their day-to-day activities. Even though almost all organizations have begun adopting the use of computers and management information systems, water supply companies like Igemo Water Supply company remain sluggish in realizing Digitization objectives. It is on this basis that the study was conducted to collect findings on ICT integration in water billing and consumption to enable the process of implementation, and deployment of a digitized waterbilling and consumption system. The researcher conducted an empirical review to collect literature information for the development and deployment of an electronic water billing and consumption system (eWBCS) for the Igemo water supply company to support the company in enhancing the convenience and efficiency of water billing and consumption management. The prototype of the system was iteratively tested and incrementally improved based on additional user requirements and prevailing environmental needs. The study found that the digitization of water billing and consumption will bring about convenience in water management

Author examines the considerable regional differences in the documentable preesence of princely power in Bohemia and Moravia. He also points to significance of elites as mediators between the centre and prepiheries and delas with the possible character of these elites in the Early Přemyslid principality, as insinuated by archeological finds and the terminology of the Cosmas' Chronicle. In view of these analogies, the author re-examines factors which may have led to the formation of a shared identity within the elite of the "Bohemians" in the Early Middle Ages, and reflects upon the importance of a shared identity to the functioning of princely power.Author examines the considerable regional differences in the documentable preesence of princely power in Bohemia and Moravia. The decline of the Melkite Church in Islamic Egypt and its revival by Patriarch Cosmas I (ca 727-768)

    No full text
This study focuses on the relations of the Melkites and Copts, two rival religious communities in early Muslim Egypt, at a critical turning point, i.e. the time of the patriarch of Alexandria Cosmas I (ca 727-768), about which not enough attention has been paid by modern scholars. Cosmas’s sincere intention to unite the two rival Christian Churches of Egypt, a fact recognized even by his adversaries, is emphasized. Simultaneously, the author points out the initial impartiality of the Arabs towards the perennial dispute between the Coptic and Melkite Churches, which changed drastically by the time of Cosmas I’s election

Ducal brother in the Chronicle of Cosmas

    No full text
This bachelor thesis focuses on depiction of Přemyslid fraternal relations in the historical source Chronica Boemorum. It primarily tries to analyze how the author of this work, Cosmas, described these family ties and what reasons he might have had for this description. The chronicle's depiction is also supplemented by modern interpretations of the described period and descriptions of other contemporary sources that offer different or complementary information. Apart from the analysis of the author's presentation of fraternal relations, the thesis deals with the issue of the meaning of the key term "brother" in the concept of our oldest chronicler. The text also attempts to understand the chronicler's perception of the relations between biological brothers in the first bohemian ruling dynasty

THE SOURCES OF COSMAS INDICOPLEUSTES’ MINIATURES OF ANIMALS: THE CASE OF THE “UNICORN”

    No full text
The aim of this paper is to trace the sources of the Byzantine author Cosmas Indicopleustes’ miniatures of animals, in particular of the “unicorn”, in his work Christian topography. Cosmas, a sixth century seaman and merchant, wrote his work, Christian topography, based on his personal experience travelling in the Red Sea and beyond. Although his main aim was to enhance religious beliefs, his work yields important geographical information concerning navigation, peoples and animals of various countries neighbouring the Red Sea and beyond. His description of various exotic countries is decorated with drawings and numerous designs relevant to his cosmological interpretation of the Bible. While Cosmas’ cosmological theory and the relevant designs have been studied by a number of scholars, little attention has been paid to his drawings of animals based on his travelling experience. An attempt is made in this study to trace the origin of Cosmas Indicopleustes’ illustrations of animals, focusing on the unicorn. Furthermore, a comparison with similar drawings found in Arabic manuscripts is added. An effort is also made in this study to draw information not only from the pictorial evidence but also from the literary tradition of the original Greek and Arabic sources.</jats:p

Understanding the Internet: Psychological word norms as indicators of query-specific internet word frequencies

    No full text
By using existing psychological word norms obtained by rating procedures we try to predict the frequencies of search hits derived from internet search engines. We used several major search engines and repeated measurement to develop a highly reliable scale of internet word frequency. We presumed that psychological criteria like typicality and valence of nouns predict the frequencies of search-operator-specific frequencies of internet search hits. Regression analysis confirmed this assumption indicating that the verbal content of the internet as interactive mass medium can be predicted by already existing and established psychological characteristics of words

This bachelor thesis focuses on depiction of Přemyslid fraternal relations in the historical source Chronica Boemorum. The Užižić Palace and the Church of SS. Cosmas and Damian

Autor u radu analizira proporcije palače Užižić, kuće unutar iste palače te obližnje crkve sv. Kuzme i Damjana, povodom rekonstrukcije ovih građevina. In this text the author analyses the proportions of the Užižić Palace, the houses inside the palace and the nearby Church of Ss. Cosmas and Damian. The Užižić Palace stands above the main town gates of Porta Maestra. The palace was never finished, and it was never covered by a roof. People lived within the interior of the building up to 1950. Previously, the building was called the Leporini Palace, then the Hektorović Palace, because of the family crests carved on its windows, but Joško Kovačić proved that it was Nikola Užižić who started building the palace in 1463, so that the proper name for it was the Užižić Palace. This author recommends that it should be called 'Golden Palace' because of its proportions. In spring 2010, the palace was extended upwards by three lines of stones and a cornice (stone gutter). The facade of the palace no longer has the proportions as envisaged by the architect who designed it in the 14th century. Inside the building is another house which is older. The Church of Ss. Cosmas and Damian in Hvar is situated inside a Romanesque house built around the end of the 13th century. So a family house was reconstructed as a church, and this happened around the end of the 16th or the beginning of the 17th century. The house in which the church was built was the benefice of the patrician Ozor Kačić. The church is being restored at present time, and previously unknown details have been discovered about how the house had looked when it was a residence. The facades of the Romanesque residential house were square. Probing under the floor in the northeastern aisle of the church and in the apse at a depth of 10-12 cm revealed a stone slab from the Romanesque house, while at a depth of 1.4 m there was a floor of uneven paving stones, most probably from late antiquity, and part of a wall with traces of plastering in an east-west orientation, at the foot of the step of the apse. Many antique relics were also found
