    No full text
IOI Corporation, or commonly referred to as IOI, is one of Malaysia's home grown business conglomerates which started off from humble beginnings in industrial gas manufacturing. Today IOI Group is a global organization with over 150,000 hectares of plantations where 98% are planted with oil palm; 12 palm oil mills across Malaysia; three CPO refineries with total capacity of 1.8 million MT/yr located in Peninsular and East Malaysia, and Rotterdam in the Netherlands; the largest oleochemical plants in Asia; and specialty fats plants across the world in the Netherlands, the United States, Egypt, Canada, and Malaysia (source: IOI Annual Report 2009).The Group’s plantation business strong growth in a short span of 24 years since 1983 was achieved through acquisitions and distinctive plantation management practices which emphasizes on continuous improvements in yields and cost efficiencies. As a major player in the oil palm industry, which is the third biggest contributor to the Malaysian economy (,Economic Report 2007/2008), IOI corporation faces many challenges to sustain its competitiveness. What strategic moves must IOI take to remain tops in this oil palm industry? This paper seeks to provide a perspective on how IOI Corporation can sustain its competitiveness by undertaking a SWOT Analysis the corporation. A diagnosis of the corporation is made after the SWOT analysisCompetitiveness, SWOT Anlaysis, Oil palm industry, Case study

Orientation control over bent-core smectic liquid crystal phases

    No full text
Bent-core smectic liquid crystal (LC) phases (B phases) have been widely studied since their unusual polar and chiral properties were discovered in the 1990s. Relatively few studies have examined the mechanisms by which the orientation of the B phase may be controlled to produce the type of macroscopic domain that is essential for organic semiconductor, optical device and patterning applications. This review is intended to cover recent progress towards controlling the B phases upon layering, including anisotropic treatment methods and topographical confinement methods. Finally, this review closes with a discussion of B smectic phases that have been fabricated for use in certain applications

Nufus, Dewi Hanim Shofiyatun. 2018. The Historical aspect of “Kitab Jadwal Tarikh (Text Editing and Content Analysis)”. Essay (S1) Department of Indonesian Literature Faculty of Humanities Diponegoro University Semarang. Supervisor: Dr. M. Abdullah, M. Hum. dan Nur Fauzan Ahmad, S.S., M.A. “Kitab Jadwal Tarikh” is a script written in Arabic, using Arabic and Pegon. It was found in Kudus. In the past, it was kept by the Nurus Siroj Islamic Boarding School in Undaan Kidul, 12th alley Undaan, Kudus. However, in the present, the script is kept by Mr. Syafi’i. The author of the script is KH. Ahmad Siroj and KH. Ahmad Anshor. The condition of the script is not good enough. There are some texts that cannot be read because of the flood in Undaan on 2004. The purpose of this study is to describe, to edit, and also to uncover the historical aspects in the KJT. The research method used in this study is the content analysis method. The theories used in this study are philology theory, content analysis theory, and historical theory. In the KJT’s script edit, it uses the method of standard editing, because the text of the script is a single text. The result of this analysis is that the KJT contains the history of the Prophet Muhammad, the history of the birth and the death of the companion of Prophet Muhammad, the history of the birth and the death of sufi figure, and the history of the birth and the death of the author’s relatives. Then, this study shows that there is a discrepancy between the birth and the death of several figures in the KJT. Furthermore, the study discovers that there are some Arabic texts with some miswriting and there are also some ambiguous texts that cannot be translated. Keywords: Philology, Script, Histor

This paper discusses the multisource input from the piezoelectric (PZT) generators to the power management circuit (PMC) of the energy harvesting system. It discusses the structure of the PMC starting from the AC-DC full bridge rectifier circuit and the structure of the storage circuit of the power management circuit itself. The AC-DC rectifier circuit was compared with separated AC-DC rectifier, series and parallel connection to choose the best performance output and structure. The storage circuit was also compared between traditional method and switch circuit. This paper also describes the designing circuit of the PMC from the software and fabricating it to PCB board circuit. The PMC was tested by connecting 4 input PZT generators which were harvested from the vibration and connected to the application electronic load circuit such as microcontroller and sensors to complete it as an energy harvesting vibration based system. The performance test was conducted by testing it in a laboratory and field test at one of the cooling fan power stations which provides continuous vibration from the motor. Two methods of testing were conducted to measure the performance of the PMC which were laboratory test and field test at the vibrating motor of cooling fan in power station. The 70% of the efficiency was recorded for both laboratory test and field test from the PMC. The output power of the PMC is 1.94mW and the input power is from the multisource input PZT. Author also makes a comparison between the performances of the PMC with other previous designs

Fatma Aliye (1862-1936) was a popular female author. One of the first women authors of Turkish history, she was better known as a novelist. However, Fatma Aliye also published works on philosophy, Islam, women, poetry, and history. Her identity as an historian has generally been ignored and has not been properly analyzed. Two of her works are evidence of her worth as an historian. The first one published in 1915 was titled, Tarih-i Osmaninin Bir Devre-i Muhimmesi Kosova Zaferi-Ankara Hezimeti (An Important Era of Ottoman History: the Kosovo Victory-Ankara Defeat), and the second one published in 1916 was Ahmed Cevdet Pasa ve Zamani (Ahmed Cevdet Pasha and his Time)

The Effectiveness of Virtual R&D Teams in SMEs: Experiences of Malaysian SMEs

    No full text
The number of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), especially those involved with research and development (R&D) programs and employed virtual teams to create the greatest competitive advantage from limited labor are increasing. Global and localized virtual R&D teams are believed to have a high potential for SMEs growth. Due to the fast growing complexity of the new product, coupled with new emerging opportunities of virtual teams, a collaborative approach is believed to be the future trend. This research explores the effectiveness of virtuality in SMEs virtual R&D teams. An online questionnaire emailed to Malaysian manufacturing SMEs and 74 usable questionnaires were received, representing a 20.8 percent return rate. To avoid the bias that may result from pre-suggested answer, a series of open-ended questions asked from expertise. This study based on analyzing an open-ended question; extract four main themes among expertise recommendations on the effectiveness of virtual teams for SMEs growth and performance. These are suitable for SMEs new product design manager to realize the key advantage and importance of virtual R&D teams in the process of NPD, which lead to increase the effectiveness of the new product's procedure.Virtual teams, New product development, Survey finding, Small and medium Enterprises.
