Dr. Khalil Toqar, President of the Urdu Department of Jamia Istanbul Turkey, has made his name as a researcher, critic, poet and prose writer around the world. Urdu is not his mother tongue but he has made it his cloak. He wrote 26 of his 51 works only in Urdu language. Apart from this, he wrote articles in domestic and foreign newspapers and journals. Here we are mentioning some of them. In the article under review, Bazm Iqbal Lahore Pakistan's Quarterly Magazine Iqbal (اقبال) has a long discussion in the context of the life circumstances, birthplace, shrine, love of God and love of the Prophet of the famous poet of the Republic of Turkey, Yunus Amra. This article has three parts. In the first part Yunus Amra, in the second 'Subak Hindi' سبک ہندی and in the third part Urdu journalism in Istanbul is mentioned. In ‘Subk e Hindi’ a literary style and its customs, is given many opinions about the right and the way. However, most of the scholars who adopted the ‘Subk e Hindi’ were Turkish and Parsians. In this article, the beginnings, problems, and results of Urdu journalism are reviewed. It mentions the objectives of the Urdu Journalisms, obstacles, and the efforts involved in this work are mentioned

    Variations on the Author

    No full text
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    No full text
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

English Language Learning Experience from Inside and outside: A Case Study of Pakistani Students Studying English at UMT Sialkot Pakistan

    No full text
The present study aims to study different aspects of English language learning in the classroom and the factors that interactively affect it. To conduct this research, the data was collected through semi-structured interviews with a group of students learning English at the undergraduate level. The research participants were selected according to their scores on an IELTS-based pre-test and their prior experience of English. The data is analyzed using AI tools available on the internet freely like Julius.ai. The findings confirm the emphasis made in the literature on classroom factors indicating that students’ L2 motivation largely depends on the language learning experience. However, some context-situated, external, and internal factors are not part of the language learning experience inside the classroom but affect the overall language learning experience. Thus the language learning experience is an intricate and complex process that has great significance in producing motivation in ESL students of Pakistan. Unfortunately,  it is neglected largely. There is a dire need to focus on it

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    No full text
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

Fetal growth reference ranges in twin pregnancy: Analysis of the Southwest Thames Obstetric Research Collaborative (STORK) multiple pregnancy cohort

    No full text
Objective To generate reference charts for expected fetal growth in dichorionic diamniotic (DCDA) and monochorionic diamniotic (MCDA) twin pregnancies and to compare these with those from singleton pregnancies. Methods This was a retrospective study of biometric measurements from serial ultrasound examinations of twin pregnancies in the second and third trimesters, from 14 weeks' gestation to term, collected by nine hospitals over a 10-year period. The measurements obtained in each fetus at each examination included head circumference (HC), biparietal diameter (BPD), abdominal circumference (AC) and femur length (FL). Multilevel mixed effects statistical models were used to evaluate growth in each biometric variable in relation to gestational age, taking account of the serial examinations and the association between the two fetuses in each pregnancy, with separate models constructed for DCDA and MCDA pregnancies. Results The final dataset for analysis included a total of 9866 second- and third-trimester ultrasound examinations in 1802 DCDA and 323 MCDA twin pregnancies, with a median of five (range, 1-14) scans per pregnancy. For each variable, the mean value for DCDA twins was close to the reported value in singletons at 20-30 weeks and showed a decrease relative to singletons beyond 30 weeks. The differences were greater for AC and HC, for which the mean in twins was approximately equivalent to the 30th percentile in singletons at 18 weeks, the 35th percentile at 25 weeks and the 30th percentile at 35 weeks. Fetuses in MCDA twin pregnancies displayed lower mean measurements than did those in DCDA pregnancies throughout the gestational age range considered. Conclusions Ultrasound biometry shows a small but statistically significant reduction in fetal growth in twin pregnancies relative to that in singletons, particularly in the third trimester, with a more marked difference for MCDA than for DCDA pregnancies

Electrochemical remediation of phenol contaminated kaolin under low-strength electric fields

    No full text
Soil degradation is a global concern. Electrochemical remediation (ER) technology is considered an appealing strategy for soil remediation because it is a low-cost, adaptable, and effective noninvasive in situ technology. Currently, the remediation of soil characterized by fine grains, low-hydraulic permeability, heterogeneous conditions, and mixtures of contaminants is still challenging since other conventional technologies are poorly effective. ER of soil is based on the application of low potentials between a couple of electrodes which induces an electric field (E) in the contaminated field. In this work, very low values of electric field (E ≤ 0.25 V cm−1) were used for the ER of contaminated kaolin. Phenol was selected as model hazardous organic compound and kaolin as model, reproducible and low buffering and low permeability clay. The effect of several factors, including the nature of the electrodes, treatment time, kind of current, the strength of the E and the nature of supporting electrolyte, on the performance of the process was investigated in detail and discussed in terms of the normalized phenol concentration and its total removal from the kaolin. Overall, the main finding is that the use of very low value of E (0.15 V cm−1) can allow to simultaneously desorb, mobilize and also in-situ degrade phenol. The highest removals of phenol up to approximately 80% and 90% from the kaolin under both direct and sinusoidal E, respectively, were reached using compact graphite as electrodes in presence of Na2SO4 into the kaolin
