A phytochemical study on Hunteria zeylanica Gard from the Malayan flora was conducted resulting in the isolation and characterization of six alkaloids. Five of them were indole alkaloids, which are eburnamine, isoeburnamine, eburnamenine, yohimbol and eburnamonine. In addition a venoterpene which contain a pyridine nucleus was also isolated. Structural elucidation of the compounds was accomplished by modern spectroscopic techniques: 2D NMR, IR, UV and MS

K. Sen (10 papers), Tiew Wai Sin (8 papers), C. R. Karisiddappa, Nor Edzan Nasir, V. L. Kalyane, Teh Kang Hai, and B. M. Gupta (3 papers each); 36 (45%) of the authors are geographically affiliated to Malaysia, authors affiliated to library schools were well represented (55.2%), the most productive institution is Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, University of Malaya with 26 out of 80 author's affiliation, the most popular subject is Scientific and Professional Publishing, 30 (39.5%) articles contained author's self-citation, while the rate of journal self-citation is found to be 27.6% and most of the articles (67.1 %) contained no formal acknowledgement

In our search for antiplasmodial compounds from Malaysian plants, two plants from genus Kopsia (family Annonaceae) that are Kopsia terengganensis and Kopsia teoi were investigated. Based on the traditional use of this plant for treating fever, we had carried out the study on the antiplasmodial effect of Kopsia terengganensis. This study was undertaken to investigate the possibility of antimalarial activity of K terengganensis and K teoi. by isolating of the phytochemicals from the extracts and active fractions of K terengganensis and K teoi, identifying the structures of the purified phytochemicals using spectroscopic methods and determining the antiplasmodial activity. Chromatographic separation and isolation procedures on K terenganensis yielded the alkaloids larutensine (1), eburnamine (2), akuammidine (3), eburnaminol (4), rhazidigenine (5), quebrachamine (6), isoeburnamine (7) and eburnamonine (8). From Kopsia teoi, rhazimol (9), kopsinginol (10), kopsigine (11), ebumamenine (12), akuammiline (13), isoeburnamine (7) and kopsinol (14) were obtained. Compounds coded 5011-14 CRYS, 3P2, RJ-18 and 5035 H₂0 showed strong inhibition with IC50 values below 5 μg/mL. The strongest inhibition was shown by compound 5011-14 CRYS with IC₅₀ 0.11 μg/mL. Compounds RAW1 and 5035 H CRYS showed moderate inhibition with IC₅₀ values of 10.09 and 16.72 μg/ml, respectively. Further work on these compounds is being pursued based on the promising activities shown. This data suggests that K terengganensis and K. teoi are potential source of antimalarial agents

Analysis of Character Conflict in Pak Guru's Novel Awang Surya's work. Literary work as an imaginary, fiction that offers various problems of man and humanity, life and life. One form of work literature is a novel. Like other literary works, in novels there are conflicts too or problems that are often raised by the author to represent the idea exist in everyday life, with the above facts, the author is interested in conducted a study entitled "Analysis of Character Conflict in Pak Guru's Novel" Awang Surya's work". Research problems (1) How is the conflict of characters in the novel? Mr. Guru by Awang Surya? (2) How does the author express the conflict of characters in the novel Pak Guru by Awang Surya? This research uses qualitative approach with the type of library research and using the method descriptive. Data collection techniques through hermenuetic techniques. In analyzing the data refers to various relevant theories, namely using the Theory of Assessment Nurgiyantoro's (2009) fiction about character conflict and the theory of literary criticism development Indonesia Sukada (1993) on how the author presents character conflicts. Results The study concluded that the conflicts contained in the novel Pak Guru by Awang Surya is (1) internal conflict and external conflict. Internal conflict is a conflict that occurs in the heart, soul of a character or temporary story characters External conflict is a conflict that occurs between a character and something else outside himself, perhaps with the natural environment or perhaps the human environment. The internal conflict was experienced by the characters of Musa and Nasimah while the external conflict happened to the figure of Musa and the teachers of SDN, Musa and Mr. Sarkowi, Musa with Alfan, Musa with Bu Eni, Musa with Nasimah. (2) Author's way Presenting character conflicts analytically and dramatically. Analytics is the way The author describes the conflict of the characters in the story directly explaining the name characters and physical images while dramatic is in an indirect way, namely through conversations or dialogues described by characters when facing problem. The dominant character conflict expressed by the author is the character conflict analytically, because the author describes the story more provide direct explanations without dialogue. Then the author's way revealing character conflicts dramatically illustrated by dialogue directly between the characters contained in the novel Pak Guru by Awang Surya

Numerous studies have been done on the subject of communication apprehension (CA) among university students but none has adequately addressed the issue of perception. This study tries to examine the relationship between self concept and communication apprehension among undergraduates. It attempts to find out whether students' perception of themselves and their negative or positive self image have had any effect on their ability to communicate either orally or in writing. The study involves 169 respondents from the Bachelor in Office Management programme in UiTM Pahang. It was discovered that majority of the degree students have low CA and high self-concept. The level of CA in some speaking situations such as public speaking and meetings is still high, and majority admitted to having anxiety when speaking in a formal situation. It is felt that the degree students lack exposure to real life workplace communication. Thus, a few suggestions are given with regards to this aspect, specifically to enable them to hone their communication skills with people outside the university especially business people or professionals. it is hoped that the findings can help lecturers identify better approaches in tackling learners' problem in communicating in the classroom as well as prepare them for future workplace communication events

Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic disorders characterized by high blood-glucose levels over a prolonged period that causes complications when an open wound is present. Alginate is an antioxidant and a good absorbent of exudates. Okra fruit contains flavonoids that can act as antioxidants. The antioxidant properties of extracts combination reduce blood-glucose levels significantly to accelerate the activities of wound-healing processes on diabetic mice. Alginate was characterized by Size Exclusion Chromatography-Multiple Angle Laser Light Scattering (SEC-MALLS), thermal stability and Proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (1H-NMR). The evaluation of wound healing on 36 male mice were divided into 12 groups including normal control (NC), diabetics control (DC), alginate (DA) and alginate-okra (DAO) groups in three different times by histopathology test on skin tissue. The results of SEC-MALLS analysis showed that alginate as single and homogeneous polysaccharide. The 1H-NMR spectrum showed that the mannuronate/guluronate ratio of the used alginate was 0.91. Alginate, okra fruit extract and their combination were classified as moderate and strong antioxidants. The numbers of fibrocytes, fibroblasts, collagen densities had significantly increased from three to seven days. In contrast, wound width, neutrophil, macrophages had significantly decreased at 14 days. The administration of extracts combination increased the re-epithelization of the wound area and wound-healing process on diabetic mice
