    No full text
This article aims to describe the discourse of the destructive environment found in the book Indonesian Children\u27s Stories of Choice and explain the presence of destructive environmental discourses as an author\u27s writing strategy. Environmental discourse is a subject of special attention in studying language related to the environment. This study uses the Ecolinguistic theory of the story we lived by Arran Stibbe. Environment discourse is stories that live in a community environment that influences and even determines one\u27s mind. The environment consists of constructive and descriptive discourse. This study focuses on destructive environmental discourse, i.e., disasters containing information that violates or opposes environmental conservation values. The results of this study indicate that destructive environments are one of the authors\u27 writing strategies for punishing characters in stories that contradict the environmental values of intelligence. In addition, the discourse of environmental destruction is created to be the reason for the presence of the discourses of resistance that are constructive and on the side of the wisdom of the environment. This study concludes that the authors use the environmental disasters as part of the message of the story to be known so as not to be done or followed by readers, especially readers from among children

    No full text
Facial Expression is one of the key parts of non-verbal communication. Facial Expression Recognition is the major application of surveillance, automation, health care, and education. Deep learning is important in different fields of computer vision due to its ability to process and analyze large volumes of data, extract features, and correctly classification of images. This research empirically evaluates the performance of a pre-trained model on augmented datasets for facial expression recognition. The study includes preprocessing techniques, data augmentation, and transfer learning using the ResNet50 model. The experiments are conducted on a dataset containing images of three facial expressions: happy, sad, and surprised. The results indicate significant improvements in accuracy as the dataset size and preprocessing techniques increase. In particular, Cubic Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Linear Cubic SVM consistently outperform other classifiers, achieving an impressive accuracy of 99.7% on the augmented dataset. The research demonstrates the potential of data augmentation and preprocessing in enhancing facial expression recognition systems

Citrus leafminer (CLM), Phyllocnistis citrella Stainton (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae) is a major pest of citrus, which feeds on almost all citrus cultivars, and some related Rutaceae spp. We evaluated the efficacy of aqueous and alcoholic extracts of selected plant species (Azadirachta indica A. Juss, Musa acuminate Colla, Eucalyptus camaldulensis (Dehn.), Mentha arvensis L., Datura stramonium L., Citrullus colocynthis (L.) and Citrus limon (L.) against P. citrella larvae by two different application methods; leaf dip and topical applications. Highest P. citrella mortality was observed in the aqueous (61.17%) and alcoholic (58.3%) extracts of A. indica compared to rest of the plant extracts after 24 hours of exposure. Among two treatment application methods, higher P. citrella mortality was obtained in the topical application of A. indica extract than leaf dip application. Furthermore, the LC50 value of A. indica aqueous extracts was 6.8% in leaf dip bioassay as well as 4.55% in topical application which was lower compared to all other extracts. Musa acuminate and C. limon extracts (aqueous and alcoholic) was found least effective against P. citrella larvae. When combined efficacy of plant extracts with abamectin was evaluated, the aqueous and alcoholic extract of A. indica combination treatments provided highest mortality (62.25% and 66.25% respectively) than the rest of the treatments. Our findings indicate that A. indica extract has potential to be tested as a botanical insecticide for the management of P. citrella larvae as a stand-alone (for organic growers) or in an integrated approach with abamectin. It would not only reduce the input cost of the growers, but also help to reduce negative impacts of the synthetic chemical insecticides

Relationship between Performance Appraisal Politics, Organizational Commitment and Turnover Intention.

    No full text
Most of the studies define organizational commitment as commitment specifically targeted towards the organization as an administrative entity. Organizational commitment has been found both as an antecedent and consequence of number of work related variables. Numerous research articles show that organizational commitment is the consequence of personal variables, work environment variable and as predictor of absenteeism, performance and turnover. Going through the literature on organizational commitment consequences, scholar strongly believes that the strongest and most predictable behavioral outcome of the employee commitment is reduced turnover. The focus of this research was to study and examine the effects of performance appraisal politics . organizational commitment and turnover intentions. The population for this research was defined as pharmaceutical marketing firms (private sector) of Pakistan,  including  national  and  multinational  firms.  Data  was  collected  from 10 pharmaceutical firms (both national and multinational). A total of 300 questionnaires were distributed and out of those, 270 complete questionnaires were gathered, hence depicting a response rate of 90 %. This  study  examined  the  effects  of  performance  appraisal  politics  on  organizational commitment,  and turnover intention. Initially the perceptions of appraisal politics was viewed as single general variable, but after factor analysis of the items used to assess the variables, resulted in two independent factors.i.e one linked to political motives that benefit employees and other is linked to personal bias and punishment motive.   KEY WORDS; Organizational commitment, Turnover intentions, Performance appraisal politic

The role of diffusion of innovation theory towards the adoption of halal meat supply chain

    No full text
This paper aims to examine the factors that drive the exporter’s influence toward halal meat supply chain adoption by encompassing the diffusion of innovation (DOI) theory in the context of Pakistan. Using DOI as an underpinning theory, this study evaluates halal supply chain adoption by collecting data from the members of associations from Pakistan. A total of 258 useable responses were received, and PLS-SEMwas adopted using SmartPLS. The exporter’s adoption of the halal supply chain is determined not only by perceived relative advantage and perceived compatibility but also by perceived complexity, religious beliefs and awareness. Though this study has practical and managerial implications, it has few limitations. Further studies need to be conducted in other contexts as well with a larger population. There are limited studies that have tested DOI theory in the context of the halal meat supply chain in Pakistan. Therefore, the author extends the diffusion theory of innovation in the current work. Further, this paper will be a helpful reference guide for academicians, practitioners and researchers

Recibiendo, reinventando y transmitiendo el concepto de ‘interés público’: orígenes y trayectoria del pensamiento de Abū Isḥāq al-Šāṭibī (m. 790/1388) y su aplicación práctica en el contexto islámico actual

This study provides an example of how certain ideas formulated by renowned scholars from Central Asia, and later transmitted through the Maghreb and al-Andalus, served as the foundation for new formulations and original developments that, over time, were revived and applied in the modern Islamic context. Specifically, it traces the process through which the Granadan jurist Abū Isḥāq al-Šāṭibī developed his philosophy of law, centred on the concept of maṣlaḥa (public interest) as the fundamental objective of divine law. This approach generated significant interest among 19th and early 20th-century Muslim scholars, such as Muhammad Abduh (d. 1905) and Rashid Rida (d. 1935), who led a modernist reform of Islamic thought in Egypt, and continues to serve as a model and inspiration for new legal formulations today. However, this study does not focus on analyzing al-Šāṭibī’s thought or the various earlier interpretations of the concept of maṣlaḥa, which have already been extensively studied. Instead, it aims to describe the journey of these ideas, focusing on al-Šāṭibī’s acquisition of them, and their dissemination over the subsequent seven centuries until present day.
