During the most intense fighting in Bakhmut in winter 2022 and in March 2023, author Myroslav Laiuk and photographer Danylo Pavlov lived day and night with Ukrainian infantrymen and artillerymen, medics and chaplains, rescuers and children in the city and its surroundings, under artillery shelling and amid street battles. Myroslav Skoryk: Life and solo piano works
No full textThis dissertation\u27s subject is the life and solo piano works of internationally renowned Ukrainian composer Myroslav Skoryk (b. 1938). Chapter 1 provides biographical data and a general synopsis of Skoryk\u27s stylistic development, beginning with student works from the 1950s. Chapter 2 presents a chronological analysis of Skoryk\u27s solo piano works, revealing his compositional style, recurring stylistic hallmarks, and general maturation, thereby revealing the composer\u27s use of two disparate folk traditions: Ukrainian and American. Chapter 3 provides a detailed analysis of a representative work, the Burlesque (1963), focusing on the formal and harmonic practice utilized by Skoryk.^ The author\u27s interviews with Myroslav Skoryk (December 2004) bring to light the composer\u27s thoughts on his artistic and personal development and include a significant number of previously unrevealed insights. These interviews represent a notable addition to Skoryk scholarship. The Appendix provides necessary information for accessing the scores of the solo piano works discussed in this dissertation.
A Conductor's Guide to Myroslav Skoryk's Carpathian Concerto
Full text linkabstract: This study presents a conductor's guide to the Carpathian Concerto by Myroslav Skoryk. As a Deputy Head of the National Composers Association of Ukraine, a professor at the Tchaikovsky National Academy of Music and the Music Artistic Director of the National Opera of Ukraine, Skoryk continues to be active as a composer, teacher, and conductor. The Carpathian Concerto was composed in 1972 and was inspired by the culture and folklore of the west region of Ukraine, the Carpathian Mountains. Over the years the Carpathian Concerto has become standard repertoire for many symphony orchestras in the Ukraine. The author, himself from the Ukraine, performed this work in 2002, as a member of the Tchaikovsky National Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra, with the composer present. That experience was the inspiration for this study. This guide is intended as a score study supplementary from a conductor to a conductor, to aid in preparing a performance of the paper. The commentary focuses on issue of conducting, suggestions for score study, suggestions for interpretation and instructions to performers in connection with the rhythm, intonation, balance and orchestra placement. Programming ideas conclude this project, with short program notes provided for each program, in which Carpathian Concerto would contribute toward building a "theme" concert.Dissertation/ThesisD.M.A. Music 201

Full text linkThe article examines the lexico-semantic groups of commonly used and territorially marked vocabulary as a means of stylising the colloquiality in the modern literary narrative and it also describes the qualitative properties and the stylistic potential of the colloquial vocabulary in the aesthetic language plot of the novel Inauguration by Myroslav Lazaruk. The author considers the stylistically marked words and phrases that provide a general background of the novel and give it the status of a regional vocabulary of colloquial language. Of particular importance are the words that mark the identity of the heroes to the Soviet era with characteristic lexical range
Electromagnetic calorimeter studies for charmonium physics
Full text linkDeeltjesfysici hebben met succes de fundamentele structuur van de materie ontsluierd met quarks en leptonen als elementaire bestanddelen. Er ontbreekt echter een verklaring voor hoe protonen en neutronen, de bouwstenen van atoomkernen, hun massa krijgen als gevolg van de interactie tussen hun bijna massaloze bestanddelen. Een verhelderend antwoord op dit probleem kan worden verkregen door het bestuderen van samengestelde systemen (met name "mesonen") met een zware "charm" quark of door het aantonen van een voorspelde nieuwe exotische vorm van samengestelde systemen met nog onopgemerkte quark combinaties. Dergelijke systemen kunnen gemaakt worden in proton-antiproton botsingen bij het versnellercomplex FAIR in Duitsland, momenteel in aanbouw. De deeltjes die in zulke krachtige botsingen ontstaan, zullen worden bestudeerd door nieuwe state-of-the-art detectie systemen. Omdat de kans om zeldzame charm-meson toestanden of zelfs exotische systemen te produceren zeer laag is, worden de proton-antiproton botsingen uitgevoerd met extreem hoge frequenties. Bijgevolg kunnen detektorsignalen overlappen wat tot een dramatisch verlies van belangrijke informatie kan leiden. In plaats van beproefde conventionele detector-uitlezing systemen, hebben we een nieuw "free-streaming" uitleessysteem ontwikkeld met "online" event selectie en het herstel van overlappende signalen. De nieuwe methode is met succes toegepast in versneller experimenten. We hebben aangetoond dat eenvoudige maar krachtige algoritmen kunnen worden ontwikkeld voor de "online" event selectie tijdens datatransport. De implementatie van de bestudeerde methode op grote schaal in een nieuw uitleessysteem zal het gebruik van de detector bij hoge botsingfrequenties toelaten zodat een grote hoeveelheid data betrouwbaar en nauwkeurig kunnen worden verwerkt en zeldzame gebeurtenissen efficiënt kunnen worden ontdekt.
Verification of a novel calorimeter concept for studies of charmonium states
Full text linkDe fysica van elementaire deeltjes heeft aangetoond dat quarks en leptonen tot de fundamentele bouwstenen der materie behoren. Het blijft een uitdaging om de onderliggende mechanismen te begrijpen, die verantwoordelijk zijn voor de massa van samengestelde deeltjes zoals nucleonen, de bouwstenen van atoomkernen, ondanks dat de quark bouwstenen nagenoeg geen massa hebben. Inzicht kan worden verkregen door systemen te bestuderen, die een relatief zwaar ‘charm’ quark bevatten. Ook het aanwijzen van nieuwe “exotische” deeltjes met nog niet geobserveerde quark combinaties zou de geheimen van de sterke wisselwerking kunnen onthullen. Dit soort deeltjes kan worden geproduceerd door annihilatie van intense bundels van antimaterie in de toekomstige FAIR faciliteit in Duitsland. Hiervoor is een versneller met hoge precieze vereist, maar ook een detector met ongekende nauwkeurigheid en snelheid in data verwerking. Hoog energetische fotonen, afkomstig van kort levende charm- of exotische deeltjes, zullen worden geregistreerd in een groot kristal spectrometer. Hiervoor werden in het kader van dit proefschrift essentiële elektronische componenten en bijhorende analyse technieken ontwikkeld. Een innovatieve methode voor de snelle en precieze verwerking van de gemeten signalen werd geverifieerd in een aantal systematische experimenten, waarbij deeltjes uit versnellers en kosmische deeltjes werden gebruikt. De gepresenteerde resultaten laten zien, dat een grote hoeveelheid data snel en betrouwbaar kan worden geanalyseerd. Dit is een belangrijke voorwaarde voor de geambieerde zoektocht naar zeldzame exotische deeltjes. De ontwikkelde logische bouwstenen en programma componenten werden toegesneden voor commerciële hardware producten. Hierdoor werd de interesse aangewakkerd van commerciële bedrijven en onderzoeksgroepen in de deeltjesfysica.
Particle physics has revealed the fundamental and elementary constituents of matter, quarks and
leptons. However, it remains a challenge to understand how composite particles like nucleons, the
building blocks of atomic nuclei, can gain their mass from massless constituents. Insight is best
obtained by studying composite systems containing a heavy “charm” quark, or by demonstrating a
predicted new “exotic” type of composite systems with yet unobserved quark combinations. Such
systems can be produced through intense antimatter annihilations at the new accelerator complex FAIR
(Germany) in the near future. The systems of interest have to be studied with high-precision particle
beams but also with detectors of ultimate accuracy. Photons of high energy, which are among the most
abundant decay products of the short-lived charm- or exotic particles, will be measured in a large
crystal spectrometer. Essential electronic components of such a detector and the corresponding analysis
techniques have been developed and studied in this thesis. A new approach to precisely evaluate the
large amount of measured signals in programmed chip-arrays and to exactly determine their
characteristic features has been verified in various experiments using accelerated particles and cosmic
rays. The results presented in this thesis demonstrate that a large data rate can be reliably and precisely
processed, which is mandatory to investigate a huge amount of annihilation events. The logic
components and program elements have been fitted to commercially available devices. Interest in our
developments has been shown from a commercial company and foreign experimental groups.
The Imagosphere of Myroslav Skoryk's Opera Moses1
No full textThe paper is dedicated to the eminent Ukrainian composer Myroslav Skoryk's opera Moses, which has been researched here from the standpoint of musical imagology for the first time. The methodology of the paper is based on the complex imagological concepts of Manfred S. Fischer and Jean-Marc Moura, in which they propose to analyse literary phenomena in national comparative contexts in terms of imagemes, imagothemes, and imagotypes. This triad in its totality makes up the imagosphere, that is, the world of artistic images which are both a cultural representation of a given national identity and its reflection in the artist's work. It has been found that one of the central images of Skoryk's opera and entire output is the national character of his music, which is defined by references to Ukrainian folksongs as well as the nation's operatic and choral tradition. The imagothemes of Skoryk's opera are related to a wide range of ‘eternal’ philosophical problems, such as good vs evil, faith vs its lack, human vs God, etc. By developing the ideas of Ivan Franko, the author of the opera's literary prototype, the composer presents a whole complex of ‘eternal’ themes, which he refers to the contemporary Ukrainian context: freedom and faith, liberation from centuries-long slavery and dependence, as well as the theme of the nation's spiritual leaders’ responsibilities and their relationship with the people. The main imagotypes of the opera: the God Jehovah, the prophet Moses, a lyrical young couple, and the Poet – correspond to the main qualities of Ukrainian mentality and national character, namely: patriotism, spirituality, piety, ‘cordocentrism’, and a lyrical-poetic worldview
A study of the ground-state properties of charmonium via radiative transitions in ψ' → γηc and J/ψ → γηc
Full text linkDit proefschrift is gewijd aan een systematische analyse van de electromagnetische M1-overgangen van de twee laagst liggende vector-meson toestanden, J/ψ en ψ', naar de grondtoestand, ηc. Gegevens werden bij BESIII genomen met de hoogste statistieken ter wereld in elektron-positron botsingen. Voor beide studies analyseerden we data verzameld op een massa-middelpunt-energie die overeenkomt met de nominale massa van de ψ' resonantie. Een inclusieve analyse wordt uitgevoerd met als doel een meting van de M1 overgangssnelheid van ψ' → γηc te geven. Daarnaast is de M1 overgangssnelheid van ψ ' → γηc verkregen via het exclusieve proces, ψ' → ππJ/ψ, J/ψ → γηc, ηc → KsKπ . De laatste reactie gaf toegang tot een complementaire meting van de massa en de natuurlijke breedte van de ηc . In alle gevallen is de vervorming van de resonantievorm van de ηc meegenomen door een interferentie-eect te overwegen tussen het verval van de ηc resonantie en andere processen die dezelfde eindtoestand hebben

Вченим, починаючи з 1988 року, започатковано рух за відродження й розвиток автентичної української педагогіки й шкільництва на засадах національної педагогічної культури рідного народу, започатковано вивчення українського народознавства в школі. У 1989 – 1997 рр. очолював наукову творчу групу, яка розробила держбюджетні теми Міністерства освіти України «Народознавство в школі» та «Українознавство у професійно-технічному училищі». У 1990 році захистив докторську дисертацію «Традиції і тенденції розвитку родинної етнопедагогіки українського народу». Дослідник проблем етнопедагогіки. У 1997 році переїхав до м.Коломиї на постійне місце проживання. Автор понад 300 наукових праць (монографії, навчальні посібники, підручники, брошури та статті) з актуальних проблем педагогіки, історії української педагогіки, етнопедагогіки, українознавства, проблем теорії і практики національно виховання, методики викладання української мови у школі, української родинної педагогіки, родинознавста (фамілістики). In 1989-1997, he headed a scientific creative group that developed the state budget themes of the Ministry of Education of Ukraine “Ethnolectricity in School” and “Ukrainian Studies in Vocational and Technical Schools”. In 1990, he defended his doctoral dissertation “Traditions and Trends in the Development of Family Ethnological Pedagogy of the Ukrainian People”. Researcher of problems of ethnopedagogy. In 1997, he moved to Kolomyia for permanent residence.
