It is prepared under the auspices of the Interna tional Astronomical Union (according to a resolution adopted at the 14th General Assembly in 1970). Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts aims to present a com prehensive documentation of literature in all fields of astronomy and astrophysics. No full textPani Dalloway Virginii Woolf, jedno z najważniejszych osiągnięć wysokiego modernizmu, zostało przeniesione do obiegu popularnego między innymi za sprawą powieści Mr. Dalloway (1999) Robina Lippincotta. Mr. Dalloway wpisuje się w trend kulturowego recyklingu oraz nurt praktyk intertekstualnych, w których udziela się głosu bądź eksponuje losy postaci fikcyjnej, której znaczenie było pierwotnie zmarginalizowane. Dotychczas badano: genologiczny status utworu pod kątem ,,rekursywności” i ,,odrzucenia Bloomowskiego lęku przez wpływem” (James Shiff, Monica Latham oraz Bret Keeling), transformacyjny potencjał utworu macierzystego (tożsamości seksualnej bohaterów Mr. Dalloway) oraz obrazy Londynu (Monika Girard). Tym samym autorka niniejszego artykułu pragnie zapełnić lukę interpretacyjną i przedstawić szczegółową analizę schematów narracyjnych i koncepcji czasu, które nie zostały do tej pory zaprezentowane przez innych badaczy.This paper explores how Mrs. Dalloway, one of the seminal works of high modernism, has been transferred into popular literature by Robin Lippincott in his novella Mr. Dalloway (1999). The sequel can be framed within the trend of cultural recycling and intertextual practices in which formerly marginalised fictional characters are given a voice or become more exposed. Although scholars have studied generic status of the text, “recursiveness” and Bloom’s “anxiety of influence” (James Shiff, Monica Latham and Bret Keeling); transformative potential of the original text, as well as images of London (Monika Girard), there is still a paucity of scholarship on narrative patterns and the concept of time. Therefore the author of the following paper seeks to fill this void and analyse how the elitist text of high modernism is transferred into popular literature with respect to the aforementioned aspects
Adequacy of existing residential care arrangements available for young people with severe physical, mental or intellectual disabilities in Australia
Get PDFAcknowledging that the NDIS alone will not be able to solve the issues faced by young people in nursing homes, this review makes 12 recommendations including establishing a joint taskforce to ensure the recommendations are put in place.

Recommendations to the Australian Government
Recommendation 1
6.7 The committee recommends that the Australian Government compile a database of all young people under the age of 65 years living in residential aged care facilities using the data held by the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) program. This list should be provided in a regularly updated form to the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) and to state and territory governments. This data should include the following information:
name;
age and age of entry to aged care;
diagnosis;
length of time spent in the aged care system; and
the factors that need to be addressed for the person to move out of the aged care facility.
Recommendation 2
6.8 The committee recommends that the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) conduct a Longitudinal Survey of Disability, Ageing and Carers in addition to its triennial survey of Disability, Ageing and Carers.
Recommendation 3
6.10 The committee recommends that the Australian Government develop and implement a comprehensive assessment and placement tool or residential assessment instrument to assess the care and accommodation needs for all young people living in or at risk of entering residential care.
Recommendation 4
6.12 The committee recommends that supplementary assessment guidelines and tools are developed for the ACAT program to ensure that all young people being considered for an aged care placement are properly assessed. As part of this process, the committee recommends that:
all young people placed in aged care are intensively case managed; and
all ACAT placements for those aged under 65 are reviewed on an annual basis.
Recommendation 5
6.13 The committee recommends that the accreditation standards for residential aged care are amended to include standards relating to the clinical outcomes and lifestyle needs of young people. In order to assist with meeting these new accreditation standards, the committee recommends that the Australian Government:
• provide a supplementary payment to residential aged care facilities to ensure that these accreditation standards can be met; and
• invest in disability specific training for all staff involved in the care of young people living in aged care. This training should focus on building improved awareness of the needs of young people and those living with disability in order to provide better support. It should also lead to improved connectivity between the aged care sector and other service sectors including allied health and disability services.
Recommendation 6
6.17 The committee recommends that the Department of Social Services\u27 current discussion paper on disability housing consider capital funding options for construction of specialised disability accommodation.
6.18 The committee recommends that the discussion paper is released as a matter of urgency.
6.19 The committee recommends that the Australian Government establish a supported disability accommodation fund similar to the Supported Accommodation Innovation Fund.
Recommendations to the Joint Standing Committee on the National Disability Insurance Scheme
Recommendation 7
6.21 The committee recommends that the Joint Standing Committee on the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) conduct an inquiry into the issue of disability housing after the release of the discussion paper on disability housing.
Recommendations to the Council of Australian Governments (COAG)
Recommendation 8
6.23 The committee recommends that the COAG develop and implement a national rehabilitation strategy including a framework for the delivery of slow stream rehabilitation in all jurisdictions.
Recommendation 9
6.28 The committee recommends that the NDIS, in all NDIS trial sites, and the relevant state or territory government in all other areas:
• assign an advocate to all young people living in residential care to provide information to a young person and their families about their options. If appropriate, the advocate can act on behalf of the young person;
• assign an advocate to all young people at risk of entering residential care to provide information to a young person and their families about their options. If appropriate, the advocate can act on behalf of the young person. The advocate should be made available as early as possible after diagnosis of an illness or disability and be assigned before any placement commences;
• extend the National Younger Onset Dementia Key Worker Program (YODKWP) to all young people identified as being at risk of placement in residential care to provide collaborative case management. The key worker should be assigned before any placement commences; and
• these programs should be proactively extended to young people living in residential care facilities under the age of 65 years by June 2017. Consideration of the mental health status of young people should be prioritised with appropriate support provided where necessary.
Recommendation 10
6.30 The committee recommends that the NDIS, in all NDIS trial sites, should consider how it supports those with Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).
6.31 The committee also recommends that the NDIS, in all NDIS trial sites, and the relevant state or territory government in all other areas work closely with community health services to provide the following for those with FASD
agreement on a standardised diagnostic tool; and
provision of early intervention services and other health services such as
speech pathology, physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
Recommendation 11
6.32 The committee recommends that the COAG establish a joint taskforce for young people living in residential care. This taskforce will:
• facilitate the development and implementation of integrated service pathways involving a range of portfolios at a state and federal level including housing, health, aged care, disability, and transport; and
• facilitate the collation and development of information packs outlining support, transition and placement options for young people. These packs should be made available to young people, their families, health practitioners and other relevant professionals in hospitals and aged care facilities. This process should collate all information and tools developed by the states during the Younger People with Disability in Residential Aged Care (YPIRAC) program and lead to the development of a standardised national information pack and make available to all state and territory governments for deployment.
6.33 The joint taskforce will also be responsible for oversight of the following for young people living in a Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF):
access to appropriate prescribed specialist services including speech pathology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and other allied health services;
the national rehabilitation strategy;
the provision of advocates;
the expanded key worker program;
access to fully funded equipment as part of all state and territory Aids and Equipment schemes;
• a cross sector approach is adopted to explore options for the provision of short term respite services; and
• that all young people who indicate that they do not wish to live in residential care are transitioned into appropriate alternate accommodation by June 2018.

6.34 The committee recommends that the joint taskforce issues a half yearly report on the progress of Recommendation 11 to the COAG

She was employed at the Government Institute of Female Education (Institute for Governesses) and the associated Model School for Girls. Her students included Seweryna Duchińska nee Żochowska 1 v Pruszakowa. (1816–1905). Pruszakowa – poet, journalist and translator edited the Rozrywki dla Młodocianego Wieku [Entertainment for the Young Age] magazine, where she published a few dozen page long biography of Hoffmanowa (1856, 1–2). Another student of Tańska was Teodozja Papi nee Gałęzowska (1810–1887). Several years after her death, based on the memories of her mother, Teodozja’s daughter Jadwiga Papi (1843–1906) devoted one of the chapters of her novel Klementyna. Powieść dla dorastających panien osnuta na tle życia Klementyny z Tańskich Hoffmanowej [Klementyna. A Novel for Adolescent Girls Based on the Life of Klementyna Hoffmanowa nee Tańska] (1905). However, a special role was played by the most famous student of Klementyna Tańska, namely, Narcyza Żmichowska (1819–1876), author of a controversial essay “Słowo przedwstępne do dzieł dydaktycznych Pani Hoffmanowej” [“Preliminary Commentary to the Work of Teaching of Mrs. Hoffmanowa”] (1876). Opinions and reflections left by students of Klementyna Tańska-Hoffmanowa are varied. Get PDFThe monograph Par Coeur. On works for children and young people again is
comprised of twelve analytical essays as well as an introduction in the form of
an interview (Czarne krasnoludki. Zamiast wstępu – rozmowa / Black Dwarves.
A Conversation in Place of the Introduction), conducted by the editors of the
monograph with Aleksander Nawarecki, the author of Mały Mickiewicz (Little
Mickiewicz) and a pioneer in micrological studies in Poland. The volume has
been designed as a collective attempt at expressing and analysing the oftforgotten
debt that academics of various sorts – literary scholars, historians,
theoreticians and linguists – contracted in their childhood from the books
they used to read at the time. It also becomes a pretext to utilize the professional
apparatus and competences of the authors in the context of the works
of the so‑called
“fourth literature”. The volume, therefore, consists of essays
drawing from literary texts which vary significantly in terms of genre, time
period and scope.
Wioletta Bojda, in an article entitled Dziwna książka (A Strange Book)
reflects on the 1969 book by Anna Świrszczyńska, Arkona, gród Świętowita
(Arkon, the Castle of Świętowit), a mysterious novel about the magical past of
the Slavic people inhabiting the Rugia island. The author thoroughly analyses
not only the characters but also the plot twists, showing the ways in which
the initial idea of writing a novel with a very clear message ends in a creative
failure and the novel becomes instead a story about disillusionment. In the
following essay, Sara, mała księżniczka królestwa wyobraźni (Sara, the Little
Princess of the Kingdom of Imagination) Karolina Jędrych returns to the book
of her childhood, in order to read the 1905 novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett
as a story of the saving power of imagination, thanks to which a beggar can
remain a princess and withstand the cruel test of character. Joanna Kisiel, in
her essay W świecie kobiet. O „Królowej Śniegu” Hansa Christiana Andersena
(In the World of Women. On Hans Christian Andersen’s ‘The Snow Queen’) mitologie dla najmłodszych: strategie i pomysły / Contemporary Mythologies for
Children: Strategies and Ideas) constitutes an attempt at a review and assessment
of the ways in which Greek and Roman myths are incorporated in children’s
literature. The author utilises the knowledge regarding older methods of
familiarising myths in order to assess the contemporary strategies. Małgorzata

an avid Moomin enthusiast, in her essay (U)kochać swój los.
Przypadek Filifionki / To Love Your Lot. The Case of the Mrs Fillyjonk discusses
one of the secondary characters in Tove Jansson’s series. She presents the
Mrs Fillyjonk as an existentialist heroine, for whom the storm, which destroys
her house, becomes ultimately a liberating power that allows her to abandon
her dreams of a safe place and love her lot in life instead, which brings
both happiness and sadness. The penultimate text by Beata Mytych‑Forajter
(Wyprawa po ogień. „Krzesiwo” Hansa Chrystiana Andersena / The Quest for
Fire. “The Tinderbox” by Hans Christian Andersen) constitutes an attempt
at a rereading of the childhood tale. The author poses a question regarding
the culture‑forming
role of fire, presenting its connection with the narrative,
with intensified along with the intensity of the flame: a source of warmth,
light, but also history. The closing essay of the volume is a text by Iwona
Gralewicz‑Wolny,

Professor Norman Rosenthal MD (b. 1950) was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. He graduated as a medical doctor with high honours from the University of Witwatersrand in 1973. He immigrated to the United States, where he did his psychiatry residency and became Chief Resident. In 1979, he joined the National Institute of Mental Health in Bethesda, Maryland, where he became first a research fellow and later a tenured researcher. It was there in 1984 that he led the team that first named and described Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), and pioneered the use of light therapy for its treatment. The paper subsequently became a citation classic and has been cited well over 100 times. He has authored or co-authored hundreds of subsequent papers on SAD, light therapy, and related topics. Along with colleague Thomas Wehr, in 1991 he was awarded the Anna-Monika Prize for depression research for his work in this area. He is also a best-selling author, whose book 'Winter Blues', now in its fourth edition, has been described as ‘a classic work’ by the 'New York Times'. He has also written seven other books for the general public. He is currently Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Georgetown University. He maintains a private practice in Bethesda, Maryland, and continues to research innovative treatments for depression and other psychiatric disorders.The History of Modern Biomedicine Research Group is funded by the Wellcome Trust, which is a registered charity (no. 210183). The Only Such Polish Novel of the 20th Century: On Aniela Gruszecka’s Przygoda w nieznanym kraju
No full textThe article proposes an interpretation of Aniela Gruszecka’s Przygoda w nieznanym kraju [Adventure in an unknown country] of 1933 as the first Polish Sapphic novel. The author of the article draws attention to the poetics of the novel. It narrates the story of two women – their acquaintance, unrequited love, rejection and reconciliation, following Virginia Woolf’s style: the main persona observes and analyses her developing feelings. This open and friendly reflection on non-heterosexuality is particularly interesting in the context of Polish culture, which is only today recovering the queerstory, until recently silent (even more so about female) homosexuality.Joanna Głuszek zmarła przedwcześnie 14 stycznia 2023 roku w wieku 32 lat. Contextualizing narrative theory: reading the politics of formal innovation in contemporary women's fiction
Get PDFTo ignore the strategies and structures through which stories are told, this thesis contends, is to neglect a vital dimension of their politics. Narratology provides productive analytical tools to illuminate the complex and varied mechanics of narrative form, yet it also bears the traces of its structuralist origins. Its value is therefore contingent upon its continuing reformulation as an expansive, pluralist and contextualized critical discipline. Participating in this expansion, this
thesis evidences the pertinence and vitality of some narratological models and the limitations of others. It opens up alternative critical possibilities by drawing upon insights within contemporary critical theory, from poststructuralist philosophy to transcultural feminism to
sociolinguistics. Above all, my interventions proceed from close readings of innovative fiction by women writers hitherto all but unrepresented in, and therefore potentially subversive of, existing models: Nicole Brossard, Daphne Marlatt, Hiromi Goto, Ali Smith, Jackie Kay, Erna Brodber, Dionne Brand, Aritha van Herk.
The first chapter formulates an in-between critical space where feminist and postmodernist theories of narrative intersect. It re-examines metafiction through the lens of auto(bio)graphical practice and feminist poststructuralist theories of self, and introduces the notions of folds and
echoes to describe specific structural innovations. Chapter Two examines unconventional uses of second-person address and reconsiders existing narratological approaches in their light, focusing on the `push and pull of narrative' that the `you' form enacts. Chapter Three addresses the insufficient attention paid to multiply narrated novels, theorizing them as `narrative communities' and introducing terms to describe different internal relations between narrators, relations that can often be read as determinedly 'democratic'. The final chapter contests the
hegemony of temporal models of narrativity by formulating a 'spatial poetics' that accounts both for how spatial structures can be agents of narrative change and for the complexity of textual constructions of space, which frequently exceed static definitions of 'setting'.
Running throughout is a reconception of narrative as located not with the figure of the narrator, but in relations of intersubjectivity. The narratological criticism formulated here works towards a situated ethics of reading responsive to the politics of writing: it is engaged, relational, and ever in process
