Benjamin Karim: Remembering Malcolm
No full textBenjamin Karim (July 14, 1932 - August 2, 2005) was an African American Muslim minister, author, and orator. He was born Benjamin Goodman, in Suffolk, VA., the son of Wilbur Bryant and Mary Goodman. Young Goodman was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. After serving in the military, Goodman worked as a recording engineer with a record company when he first heard Malcolm X speak in 1957, and his experience caused him to convert to the Nation of Islam (NOI), cease many secular activities, change his diet, and become sober.
A dedicated student of African and African American history, Karim re-educated himself and over the next seven years, adopted the name Benjamin 2X, and became one of the closest aides to Malcolm X. He supervised an educational program at the NOI temple in Harlem, and stood in for Malcolm X at some events held around the United States

Keynote Address by Karim Rashid
No full textKarim Rashid is one of the most prolific designers of his generation. Over 3000 designs in production, over 300 awards and working in over 35 countries attest to Karim’s legend of design. Karim’s diversity affords him the ability to cross-pollinate ideas, materials, behaviors, aesthetics from one typology to the next, crossing boundaries and broadening consumer horizons.
His award winning designs include democratic objects such as the ubiquitous Garbo waste can and Oh Chair for Umbra, interiors such as the Morimoto restaurant, Philadelphia and Semiramis hotel, Athens and exhibitions for LG Hausys and Audi. Karim has collaborated with clients to create democratic design for Method and Dirt Devil, furniture for Artemide and Magis, brand identity for Citibank and Hyundai, high tech products for LaCie and Samsung, and luxury goods for Veuve Clicquot and Swarovski, to name a few. Karim has recently been selected to design several real estate developments in New York City for HAP Investments, a New York City based International investment group.
Karim’s work is featured in 20 permanent collections and he exhibits art in galleries world wide. Karim is a perennial winner of the Red Dot award, Chicago Athenaeum Good Design award, I.D. Magazine Annual Design Review, IDSA Industrial Design Excellence award. He holds honorary doctorates from the Ontario college of Art & Design and Corcoran College of Art & Design. 2011 highlighted Karim’s largest retrospective to date at the Triennale, in Milan, Italy. Karim is a frequent guest lecturer at universities and conferences globally disseminating the importance of design in everyday life.
Karim has been featured in magazines including Time, Financial Times, NY Times, Esquire, GQ and countless more. His books include From the Beginning, Forma Edizioni (2014), Sketch, Frame (2012), a monograph of 300 drawings and computer renderings of selected works, KarimSpace, Rizzoli (2009), Design Your Self, Harper Collins (2006), Evolution, Rizzoli (2004) and I Want to Change the World, Universe (2001). In his spare time Karim’s pluralism flirts with art, fashion, and music and is determined to creatively touch every aspect of our physical and virtual landscape

Full text linkEksistensi fotografi dalam dunia fesyen tidak dapat dipisahkan. fesyen, makeup dan fotografi merupakan satu kesatuan yang selalu berkaitan dan dibutuhkan. Fotografi fesyen merupakan jenis fotografi yang berfokus pada pakaian atau aksesoris yang dikenakan oleh model. Keragaman mode pakaian Indonesia saat ini memiliki gaya yang bagus disertai bermacam motif dari berbagai kultur. Salah satu perancang busana yang menerapkan motif kultural Indonesia adalah Maharoepa by Rereziq Karim. Maharoepa telah melahirkan karya-karya busana yang menunjukan identitas Indonesia. Tujuan dari penciptaan ini ialah memvisualisasikan busana Maharoepa by Rereziq Karim melalui fotografi fesyen agar mempermudah penyampaian informasi dari busana kepada publik. Penciptaan ini menggunakan metode wawancara dan eksplorasi dari penggabungan dua cahaya yaitu available light dan artificial light atau bisa disebut mix Lighting. Hasil yang didapatkan dari karya tugas akhir ini adalah visualisasi fotografi fesyen dari Maharoepa by Rereziq Karim untuk menunjang promosi di media sosial. Simpulan dalam penciptaan karya fotografi fesyen ini, teknik cahaya memiliki peranan penting pada pemotretan, kualitas pencahayaan harus diperhatikan karena arah dan efek yang dihasilkan dari sumber cahaya akan mempengaruhi jatuhnya sebuah bayangan

Full text linkOpinnäytetyön aiheena on henkilöbrändäys viihdealalla sekä verkkoportfolion luominen. Opinnäytetyö on toiminnallinen ja se sisältää produktin, produktina toimii verkkosivuille luotu portfolio. Portfolion tavoitteena on esitellä toiminimiyrittäjä Karim Awadin visuaalista osaamista valokuvauksen, videokuvauksen sekä graafisen suunnittelun osa-alueilla.
Opinnäytetyön ensimmäinen osa koostuu tietoperustasta. Tietoperustassa avataan henkilörändiä ja sen syntymiseen vaikuttavia tekijöitä, sekä syvennytään viihdealan henkilöbrändäykseen ja sen vaikutukseen eri tilanteissa. Viihdealan henkilörändäyksen tietoperustaa tukemassa on haastatteluita alan vaikuttajilta. Jokainen haastateltava toimii alalla eri työtehtävissä eri yrityksissä, minkä kautta saadaan paljon eri näkemyksiä alaa kohtaan.
Toisena osana opinnäytetyötä toimii verkkoportfolio. Aluksi käydään läpi portfolion suunnitteluprosessia sekä toteutusta, avataan syitä portfoliolle ja mitä portfoliolla halutaan tavoittaa. Tämän jälkeen avataan kohdepersoonia sekä tehdään SWOT-analyysi. Portfolion toteutus-osassa käydään läpi syitä verkkosivujen rakenteeseen sekä portfolioon valittuihin töihin. Portfolion osa alueet sekä valitut työt esitellään havainnollistavilla kuvilla.
Viimeisenä osana opinnäytetyötä on pohdintaosio. Tässä osiossa pohditaan sekä arvioidaan opinnäytetyöprosessia sekä arvioidaan portfoliota. Arvioinnin jälkeen pohditaan jatkumoa portfoliolle
