Seizure detection from EEG signals using Multivariate Empirical Mode Decomposition
We present a data driven approach to classify ictal (epileptic seizure) and non-ictal EEG signals using the multivariate empirical mode decomposition (MEMD) algorithm. MEMD is a multivariate extension of empirical mode decomposition (EMD), which is an established method to perform the decomposition and time-frequency (T−F) analysis of non-stationary data sets. We select suitable feature sets based on the multiscale T−F representation of the EEG data via MEMD for the classification purposes. The classification is achieved using the artificial neural networks. The efficacy of the proposed method is verified on extensive publicly available EEG datasets

Energy Management in LTE Femtocells
This chapter discusses various energy saving (ES) techniques for the Long Term Evolution (LTE) systems and critically analyses their usability through a comprehensive comparative study. It focuses on energy management in LTE networks, and presents a brief overview of the LTE architecture. Based on LTE specifications, 6 out of 10 subframes (SFs) can be configured as Multicast and Broadcast Single Frequency Network (MBSFN). The use of femto base stations (FBS) has proven to be promising technology to cover those areas where macro base stations (MBS) are limited. The chapter presents a broad classification of ES schemes, and detailed insights into individual schemes. ES approaches proposed in the literature can be broadly classified in categories of energy efficient resource allocation, load balancing, carrier aggregation and bandwidth expansion. The chapter finally presents open research areas for ES in LTE networks.<br/

The subject of this article is a forgotten text, A few Pages form the Caucasus. Passages from a Journey Previously not Announced in Print, Made in 1873, published in 1879 in the Pamiętnik Towarzystwa Tatrzańskiego [Tatra Society Memoir] by Antoni Rehman, a Galician scholar, traveller and plant collector. The author of the article endeavours to identify elements of an intellectual (self)portrait of Rehman, evident in the author’s strategies of describing the region. The author of the article examines Rehman’s research sensitivity, characteristics of his professional ethos and, finally, his subjectivity as a traveller and as an author of travel accounts. The author of the article continually confronts the portrait of the scholar prepared in this way with Rehman’s visible need to communicate with a readership not versed in scientific research. Furthermore, the author of the article situates the above-mentioned examination in a postcolonial perspective. This, however, is not done in a way that would exhaust the topic, but as a supplement to the postcolonial portrayal of Rehman, which already exists in literature of this field
Translation and cultural adaptation of Shoulder Pain and Disability Index in Urdu (SPADI-U)
Introduction: Shoulder joint is the third most-frequently involved structure in musculoskeletal conditions globally. More than 30 shoulder specific questionnaires have been generated in English in order to measure shoulder related quality of life and incidence of pain. Among all these questionnaires, Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI) is one of the most useful tools, therefore it has been translated, culturally adapted and validated to many languages. This study was carried out to translate and culturally adapt SPADI into Urdu language.
Material & Methods: Study was conducted over a timeframe of three months, that’s March 2019 to May 2019 in Helping Hand Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences, Mansehra. Translation and cultural adaptation of Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI) was carried out according to internationally published six-step guidelines. In accordance with the provided directions a number of changes were made to the six-step guidelines. Through consensus of the expert panel, its final version was field in and tested on forty individuals with and without shoulder pathologies in an equal proportion.
Results: Changes were required during each step of Beaton’s guidelines for cross-cultural adaptation. Translators during ‘forward and backward translations’ had faced a number of obstacles. Minor differences were found during reconciliation process and expert panel review. The pilot testing highlighted, misinterpretation among target population regarding item 3, 5, 7 and 8 of disability scale due to cultural differences. These items were adjusted according to cultural relevance and conceptual equivalence to the original version. Final version was found relevant and easily understood by the patients having shoulder pathology.
Conclusion: SPADI-U has good face and content validity and it can be used to measure shoulder related quality of life in Urdu speaking population
Doxorubicin-loaded quaternary ammonium palmitoyl glycol chitosan polymeric nanoformulation: uptake by cells and organs

Fourier transformed infrared (FTIR) and X-ray diffractometer studies were performed to examine drug polymer interaction. The ANN-optimized nanoformulation was investigated for in vitro release, cellular, tumor, and tissue uptake.Results: The optimized DOX–GCPQ nanoformulation was anionic spherical micelles with the hydrodynamic particle size of 97.8±1.5 nm, the PDI of <0.3, the zeta potential of 28±2 mV, and the encapsulation efficiency of 80%±1.5%. Nanoformulation demonstrated a sustained release pattern over 48 h, assuming Weibull model. Fluorescence microscopy revealed higher uptake of DOX–GCPQ in human rhabdomyosarcoma (RD) cells as compared to free DOX. In vitro cytotoxicity assay indicated a significant cytotoxicity of DOX–GCPQ against RD cells as compared to DOX and blank GCPQ (P<0.05). DOX–GCPQ exhibited low IC50 (1.7±0.404 µmol) when compared to that of DOX (3.0±0.968 µmol). In skin tumor xenografts, optical imaging revealed significantly lower DOX–GCPQ in heart and liver (P<0.05) and accumulated mainly in tumor (P<0.05) as compared to other tissues.Conclusion: The features of nanoformulation, ie, small particle size, sustained drug release, and enhanced cellular uptake, potential to target tumor passively coupled with the possibility of monitoring of tumor localization by optical imaging may make DOX–GCPQ an efficient nanotheranostic system.
