Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Get PDFFor many years, the relationship between financial development and economic growth has been questioned. In this context, the interest of academics as well as the high level of curiosity of practitioners draws attention. The fact that the subject has been discussed for many years has led to the emergence of many studies in the field. The number of studies in this field has increased in recent years. In this study, the relationship between the financial development index, national income, consumer confidence index, US Dollar Exchange Rate, and profitability ratios of banks has been tried to be examined. In the study, data obtained between 1990 and 2020 were used. According to the results obtained from the study, a causal relationship could not be determined between the financial development index and the national income, consumer confidence index, and the US Dollar exchange rate. On the other hand, a causal relationship was found between the financial development index and the profitability ratios of banks. In other words, there is a relationship between the financial development index and bank profitability ratios, and as the financial development index rises, the profitability of the banks also increases. On the other hand, in both models, there is no causal relationship between the financial development index and consumer confidence, per capita GNP, and the US Dollar exchange rate. The results obtained from the study were also compared with previous studies. According to the findings, the study shows parallelism with the findings obtained in the following studies: De Gregorio and Guidotti (1995), Singh (1997), Rousseau and Wachtel (2000), Arestis et al. (2001), Calderon and Liu (2003), Rioja and Valev (2004), Atindehou et al (2005), Afsar (2008), Narayan and Narayan (2013), Menyah et al (2014), Grassa and Gazdar (2014), Ductor and Grechyna (2015), Inancli et al (2016), Opoku et al. (2019). At the same time, a positive relationship was found between financial development and bank profitability. Studies showing parallelism in this context are: Ting (2017), Sufian and Habibullah (2009), and Flamini et al. (2009)
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Altman tarafından geliştirilen ve işletmelerin finansal başarısızlıklarını tahmin etmek için kullanılan Altman Z Skor Modelini uygulayarak Borsa İstanbul Orman, Kağıt ve Basım Endeksinde faaliyet gösteren şirketler üzerinde uygulama yapmaktır. Uygulamayı yapabilmek için, araştırma konusu olan endeks de yer alan şirketlerin 2016-2020 yılları arasında sahip oldukları bilanço ve gelir tablolarından yararlanılarak, model uygulaması için gerekli finansal oranlar hesaplanmıştır. Hesaplanan finansal oranlar, modelde uygulanan katsayılar ile çarpılarak her bir şirketin araştırma yıllarına ait Z Skorları tespit edilmiş ve finansal başarısızlık tahmin edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Çalışmanın sonucunda, endekste bulunan 15 şirket içerisinde 7 şirketin iflas etme riskinin yüksek olduğu tahmin edilmiştir.The aim of thisstudy is to apply the Altman Z Score Model developed by Edward I. Altman and used to predict financial failures of businesses, and to apply on companies operating in Borsa IstanbulWood, Paper and Printing Index. In order to make the application, the necessary financial ratios for the model application were calculated by using the balancesheets and income statements of the companies included in the index, which is the subject of the research, between 2016-2020. By multiplying the calculated financial ratios with the coefficients applied in the model, the Z Scores of each company for the research years were determined and financial failure was predicted. As a result of the study, it was estimated that 7 out of 15 companies included in the index had a high risk of bankruptcy

No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
