Bol Processor BP2
Bol Processor 2 (BP2) is a music composition/improvisation software producing arrangements of sound-objects with a set of rules similar to formal grammars. The inference engine produces strings of symbols feeding an algorithm for the expansion of (polymetric) polyphonic/polyrhythmic structures, and ultimately a time-setting algorithm dealing with constraints on sound-objects. An extended SST k−ω framework for the RANS simulation of the neutral Atmospheric Boundary Layer
The use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for environmental studies is continuously growing. In this context, simulations are usually carried out solving Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) equations that require an appropriate implementation of the Atmospheric Boundary Layer (ABL). This paper proposes a framework based on the Shear Stress Transport (SST) k−ω turbulence model, which is highly recommended for microclimate analysis, since it is known to well reproduce homogeneous ABL flows in the context of RANS simulations. Besides, a new blending approach is developed to account for the presence of obstacles in the domain. The model is implemented in the open-source OpenFOAM code and validated against well-known benchmark cases spanning different configurations, i.e., an empty fetch, a single building and an array of buildings. The performance of the proposed model is very satisfactory. For instance, the Factor-of-2 validation metric is FAC2>0.8 for both velocity and turbulent kinetic energy in nearly all cases

What makes this book poignant and relevant is the counterpoint to archaeological narratives it posits. Though archaeologists tell us that these megalithic dolmens, menhirs and the like were funerary or commemorative structures, local villagers near the monuments insist that they were the houses of a now-extinct race of dwarves called Moriyas. The stories in this collection are inspired by actual monuments and sites in India. As architect-author Srikumar M Menon went along collecting data about the monuments, he could not help collecting stories too. Srikumar’s stories also draw attention to outdated theories on the development of disciplines such as the ‘history of architecture’. Legislation and barbed wire fencing are grossly inadequate to protect these primitive monuments that our prehistoric ancestors built

Public inclination towards waste segregation programme (A case study on the effectiveness of #Asingkan campaign in Klang Valley) / Intan Abida Abu Bakar, Srikumar K. Ramayan, Vijaya Sooria Sangaran.
This paper investigates the effectiveness of the #Asingkan Waste Segregation Campaign in Klang Valley area. In September 2015, the Urban Well-being, Housing and Local Government Ministry began enforcing Act 672 of the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007. The Act makes it compulsory for residents to separate their solid wastes according to categories of paper, plastics and others or face fines between RM50 and RM500. This Segregation programme affects those living in Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Perlis and Pahang. The main objective of this research is to investigate the awareness level of public towards waste segregation programme and analyse the effectiveness of #Asingkan campaign. Data from questionnaires and focus group discussions indicate that the waste segregation programme and the #Asingkan campaign are not running effectively. The Malaysian Government should find the right approach to educate and change the public’s attitude in order to make sure this programme successful
Causes of intercultural conflict and its management styles among students in Sunway University / Srikumar K. Ramayan ... [et al.]
The purpose of this study is to discover the causes of intercultural conflict and its management styles among Sunway University students. A total of six participants were selected from among different departments at Sunway university. A qualitative method was used to achieve the objectives of this research through in-depth interviews. the causes of intercultural conflict and its management styles were assessed based on intercultural conflict and intercultural conflict management style theory. The participants’ feedback was transcribed and analyzed by using the deductive coding method which identified themes such as intercultural conflict, impact on intercultural conflict on relationships as well as intercultural conflict management styles that comprises of five categories, obliging, dominating, avoiding, compromising and integrating style. The results suggest, misunderstanding, as the main cause of intercultural conflict and it impacts people both positively and negatively depending on the situation. While suggesting avoiding style as the most used style of overcoming intercultural conflict among Sunway university students when it comes to gender, race, religion and cultural issues. The research findings will add to existing work on intercultural conflict and its management styles

Not AvailablePopulation dynamics of the egg parasitoids of the tea mosquito bug, Helopeltis antonii was investigated between June 2010 and May 2013. Three species of egg parasitoids attacked Helopeltis spp. in cashew orchards viz. Telenomus cuspis Rajmohana and Srikumar, Chaetostricha sp. and Erthymelus helopeltidis Gahan. T. cuspis was the most abundant species and was recorded throughout the year with the exception of March and April. It showed the maximum parasitism rate during the monsoon (28.21 %), exhibiting a significant and positive correlation with rainfall (r = 0.33). The occurrence of Chaetostricha sp. and E. helopeltidis was occasional (1.80 and 2.25 %, respectively) during December, showing a significant and negative correlation with the minimum temperature (r = −0.63). The development time of T. cuspis was 20.6 ± 1.13 days. Longevity was significantly shorter for male (2.83 ± 0.16 days) than for female (4.52 ± 0.11 days). Elements of parasitoid foraging behaviour such as antennal drumming, ovipositor insertion, egg marking, walking and resting were also observed. The level of parasitism provided by T. cuspis suggests a good potential for biological control against Helopeltis spp.Not Availabl
Coronal microleakage with five different temporary restorative materials following walking bleach technique: An ex-vivo study
Context: Walking bleach technique uses 30% hydrogen peroxide and sodium perborate, and this paste mixture causes loosening of the coronal temporary restorative materials and thus decreasing its clinical effectiveness and causing irritation to the patients oral tissues. In the present study, sealing ability of hygroscopic coronal temporary restorative materials were compared with the other commonly used temporary restorative materials. Aim: To evaluate the effects of walking bleach material on the marginal sealing ability and coronal microleakage of the hydrophilic temporary restorative materials with that of the other commonly used temporary restorative materials in endodontic practice. Materials and Methods: Seventy-five extracted human maxillary central incisor teeth were prepared chemo-mechanically and obturated with gutta-percha in lateral condensation technique. Surface of each tooth was double coated with cyanoacrylate glue. All the teeth were randomly divided in to five groups. Out of 15 teeth in each group, 10 teeth served as experimental specimens, in which bleaching agent was placed in the pulp chamber and 5 teeth served as control, in which no bleaching agent was placed. The access cavities were restored with temporary restorative materials being tested per each group respectively. The specimens were then immersed in 1% India ink dye and subjected to thermo cycling for 7 days. All the teeth were longitudinally sectioned and observed with stereomicroscope and were graded according to the depth of linear dye penetration. Statistical Analysis Used: Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis test. Results: Hydrophilic temporary restorative materials Cavit G and Coltosol F have shown minimal coronal dye leakage with better sealing ability when exposed to walking bleach paste mixture in the dye penetration tests compared to other commonly used temporary restorative materials. Conclusion: Marginal sealing ability of Cavit G and Coltosol F were not influenced by the effects of bleaching agent compared to other temporary restorative materials used in the study
LES of a novel wing/body junction : Anti-fairing
Large Eddy Simulations (LES) of a novel type of wing/body junction called the anti-fairing are performed in the current thesis to study the complex turbulent flow physics involved in the junction area and also to obtain a clear understanding of the drag reduction capabilities of the anti-fairing. In regards to that, two separate LES are performed: one for the baseline case with a Rood wing/flat plate combination and another with the Rood wing/anti-fairing combination. A detailed comparative study is performed between the two cases to observe important differences in junction flow characteristics. Both the simulations are performed on a 25 million immersed boundary Cartesian mesh by solving the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations using the in-house finite volume LES solver called INCA. Results from the LES study confirms the existence of the propulsive pressure mechanism of drag reduction for the anti-fairing case, previously proposed by Belligoli et al. However, the results also show that there exists a secondary drag reduction mechanism caused by a combination of increase in approach boundary layer momentum thickness and dampening of the turbulence associated with the horseshoe vortex (HSV) upstream of the wing. This secondary mechanism has been found to be caused by the convex dent present at the start of the anti-fairing geometry. The total drag reduction for the anti-fairing case comes out to be 1.8%. A new parameter called junction drag is defined which accounts for the drag only due to the presence of a junction. The reduction in junction drag obtained for the anti-fairing case is about 6.8%. Apart from the LES analysis, a RANS analysis has also been performed to further investigate the drag reduction capabilities of anti-fairing for different approach boundary layer thicknesses and anti-fairing depths. All the RANS analysis have been performed on a 5 million body-fitted mesh by solving the incompressible Navier-Stokes using the open source finite-volume solver OpenFOAM. Results from the RANS analysis indicate that there exists an optimum depth for the anti-fairing which corresponds to the least drag. Furthermore, it is found that the effect of approach boundary layer thickness is mostly on changing the base drag of the case where no anti-fairing is present, rather than actually affecting the performance of the anti-fairing at different depths.Aerospace Engineerin
