In the months following its premiere at the Venice Film Festival, the film became the centre of major controversy, with some news outlets concerned that it promotes violence. Penelitian ini membahas topik pembahasan yang lebih umum, yaitu mendeskripsikan jenis-jenis presuposisi yang digunakan oleh para tokoh utama dalam film Joker berdasarkan teori Yule (1996).
Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif-kualitatif. Data dari penelitian ini adalah ucapan berisi presuposisi dari tokoh utama film. Sumber data berasal dari film Joker. Film tersebut diunduh dari https://0123movies.in/movie/joker-2019-1-2-3-4-hdK9ffON. Analisis data dilakukan dengan metode identitas sebagai cara analisis data untuk mendapatkan kesimpulan.
Temuan dari penelitian ini adalah sebagai berikut: dalam film Joker, semua tipe presuposisi dari Yule (1996) telah ditemukan. Keenam tipe dari presuposisi adalah Presuposisi Eksistensial (25%), Presuposisi Faktif (16%), Presuposisi Non-Faktif (4%), Presuposisi Leksikal (20%), Presuposisi Struktural (27%), dan Presuposisi Kontra Faktual (8%). Dapat disimpulkan bahwa Presuposisi Struktural menjadi tipe presuposisi yang paling banyak digunakan, dan Presuposisi Non-Faktif menjadi tipe presuposisi yang paling sedikit digunakan dalam ucapan tokoh utama dalam film Joker.
Penulis menyarankan agar penelitian ini dapat menjadi referensi bagi para guru dan para siswa dalam proses belajar mengajar. Oleh karena itu, penulis berharap agar peneliti lain dapat melakukan penelitian lebih lanjut dengan fokus pada presuposisi
