The current theory of literature seeks to overcome the conception of space as a Material context of the story and addresses, from different angles and with varying results, the problem of space as a crucial aspect of mimesis. Critics have already shown that the use of certain spaces grants them a symbolic value. This happens with the districts o Madrid which are a constant in the narrative works of Elvira Lindo and stand also a symptom of contemporary social reality. In the novels of Lindo, globalization and other phenomena have notably modified the urban mosaic: the juxtaposition of races, ethnicities, cultures and values, the transformation of the city model into a polycentric scheme, the huge masses of immigrants who settle in well circumscribed areas, forging a peculiar form of Chinatown…. Madrid is no longer a city with a central core of leisure and commerce, but a constellation of distinctive neighborhoods that become the habitat of the urbanite. Lindo seeks to capture the «differential spaces» of the urban, she is always aware that space is not a vacuum filled or not, and that the degree of centrality is relevant. Her novels are, among other deals interpretation of reality, a postmodern tribute and a chronicle of the neighborhoods of Madrid, especially in suburban neighborhoods. Do not understand why this is reduced to a narrative of traditional photography, the author speaks of interior tears, overcome, and personal growth, relationship between inside and outside of the people..., which overwhelms clearly the painting of manners.

This review examines En la boca del lobo, by Elvira Lindo, highlighting its interplay between fantastic literature, memory narrative, and contemporary social critique. The novel follows the memories of Julieta and Emma, two characters who wander like ghosts through a Spanish village marked by abandonment and oblivion. Narrated through multiple voices and structured in a non-linear temporality, the novel explores themes such as motherhood, abuse, sexuality, lesbian relationships, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Lindo develops an aesthetics of memory rooted in affective spaces, drawing on concepts from Paul Ricœur and Maurice Blanchot to reflect on trauma and the dissolution of time. With deep social and political sensitivity, the author pays tribute to the vanishing way of life in rural villages and denounces the silencing of women, crafting a moving and critical narrative. The objective of this thesis is to present an analysis of whether Catherine's image has been shaped by the male gaze, how she contends with the three looks of the male gaze - the look of the characters, the look of the reader, and the look of the author - and finally, how the male gaze is broken. The theoretical parameter of this analysis, the concept of the male gaze, is theorized by Laura Mulvey in the article "Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema" (1975) which critiques the relation between the male gaze and the female image within the patriarchal molding of visual pleasure. Borrowing Mulvey's critique of the gendering of visual pleasure in films, which pertains to the context of classical Hollywood cinema, I have articulated her theory in relation to Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights, to examine the dynamics of the male gaze regarding the female character, Catherine. This study also aimed at examing the extent to which Mulvey's theoretical paradigm produced for cinema could be articulated specifically in relation to a literary text written in the nineteenth century

Pianist Algernon Henry Lindo (1862-1927) was a respected performer, composer, author, and pedagogue in turn-of-the-century London. His groundbreaking work, The Art of Accompanying (1916), was the first book written about the discipline now referred to as Collaborative Piano. Although almost completely overlooked since his death, Lindo\u27s life and writings have much relevance in the twenty-first century. This study aims to make The Art of Accompanying accessible to the contemporary reader, providing a comprehensive critical edition of the work. In order to provide context for his treatise, this study presents, for the first time, a biography of Lindo. This study also offers a reading of the social and professional implications of the text, one that allows modern audiences to glimpse the ways in which accompanists were viewed and treated in the early years of the twentieth century. Finally, a comprehensive, annotated list of Lindo\u27s compositions and writings has been appended, providing further documentation of the life and work of this important, if unknown, musician

Matteo Bartoli and the ideas of Neolinguistics

A terceira parte trata de reações e críticas ao pensamento de Matteo Giulio BartoliIn this work, we investigate the thought of Matteo Giulio Bartoli. The author is known as the creator of the so-called Areal Linguistics or Neolinguistic School (in clear opposition to the Neogrammarian school. Among Bartoli\'s many works, emphasis is placed on the Breviario di Neolinguistica, co-authored with Giulio Bertoni, in its second part, entitled Criteri Tecnici. Bartoli was a reader of Graziadio Ascoli, having used his ideas such as the \"mixture of peoples\", as well as Linguistic Geography (especially the onomasiological method, on the basis of the creation of lexical maps) and the Neogrammarian School itself, being still considered by many researchers as one of them (IORDAN, 1982). Neolinguistics has five analysis criteria, called areal norms. With them, Bartoli intended to analyze linguistic change through the distribution of data according to the time of colonization by the Roman Empire. For this purpose, the contributions of Philology are essential for the understanding and interpretation of Bartoli\'s thought in its historical context and itinerary of construction of ideas. (AUROUX, 1992; LINDO, 2019). Bartoli is based on the concepts of isolated area norm, lateral area norm, larger area norm, most recent area norm and disappeared phase norm. The author uses many charts to establish comparisons between forms of Vulgar Latin and Classical Latin, as well as the use of the form with capitalized letters for the latter and the lowercase italic form for the former, in that order. The first part of the present work deals with the influences on Matteo Bartoli\'s thought. The second part treats of the technical criteria elaborated by the author, set out in the Breviario di Neolinguistica. The third one is concerned with reactions and criticisms to Matteo Giulio Bartoli\'s though

Elvira Lindo is a polifacetic artist who has culminated her many different attempts related to the field of writting literature with an enormous success. She started her professional career being a radio commentator and scriptwriter. Time later, she also was employed as a scriptwriter for Tele 5 and TVE two huge mass media channels. And, probably, due to the paractise of that profession is when Elvira Lindo began to show her abilities and skills , mainly in the field of language and located in the way people speak. In addition to this, it is fair to say that Elvira Lindo is one of the most remarkable writers regarding to children's Literature. She has become very popular and well-known for the series of novels called Manolito Gafotas and Olivia. Moreover she writes a two-day column in one of the biggest print-run newspapers - "El País". So far, she has published three novels: El otro barrio, Algo más inesperado que la muerte, Una palabra tuya and a play La ley de la selva.Lenghthwise all this project, we will use in a first term, a panoramic vision of the works of the author and in a second term, we will describe all the theoretic framework used to achieve the analysis of the humoristic texts published under the epigraphs of Tinto de verano, Gente and Don de gentes .The choosen prespectives to do the aforementioned analysis are two: the Discursive vision and the Pragmatic point of view. Due to the fact that recreation of orality dominates many of Elvira Lindo' works, it is very important the study of the language, the living language far from abstraction and close to "naturality", "quotidianity".That is the reason why we have not only studied the linguistics characteristics in the articles -especially the ones connected to orality- we have also studied the contextuality and the potential readers to whom these articles are addressed to.Paying attention to all these points we can have a perfect and complete picture of Elvira Lindo' works. To approach the study of the humoristic texts of Lindo, we have basically started following the contributions generated through the Pragmatism - if we understand the pragmatic studies like the study of the communicative function of the language- and we think that this communictive function allow us to have a global picture of the different linguistic evidences. We have studied What is said and How is said, but also, What is not said, all the hint words that an involved reader needs to discover the longed-for comic effect. The main female character-who is a fiction- is very alike to Elvira Lindo and the character is described as a middle-age woman, with a comfortable position ( economical and social) successfully achieved to her job and -in addition- to the job of her husband. They are, both, very remarkable writers. In the spite of the fact that she would consider herself as an intelectual, she presents her life splitted between that recognised intelectuality and the development of different roles like being a housewife, mother and above all, a superficial and frivolous woman. This duality (which is the tittle of this essay) it is used by her to subvert each role.In these articles we can find variety of voices, many speeches are imitated, different discursive styles are plagiarized, the headlines appear full of connotations and, all of them, are sprinkled with irony. Moreover we dedicate a part of our essay to study the polyphony as well as the study of intertextuality, the connotation and, of course, the irony. All of them are very alike. Because of the huge list of popular characters ("beautiful people") appearing throughtout the articles, we have made an onomastic index which is attached at the end. Finally, the essay ends interviewing the author, also included in the final attachements

Purpose: In many first-world settings, lateral violence among nurses is pervasive and has been associated with deleterious psychological effects, high staff turnover and negative patient outcomes. This study explored lateral violence among nurses at a Jamaican hospital. Methods: A fixed concurrent QUAN= QUAL mixed method study design was employed. Data were gathered from 114 registered nurses using the 38-item Briles’ Sabotage Savvy self-administered questionnaire and two focus group discussions. Results: Exposure to lateral violence was reported by 96% of participants, and 3/4 rated the exposure as moderate to severe. Nurse Managers were the main perpetrators of lateral violence (63%). Lateral violence created a hostile environment, and half of the nurses surveyed indicated an intent to resign. These survey findings were supported by the focus group discussions which yielded themes inclusive of professional disengagement and erosion of team work. Conclusion: The high levels of lateral violence reported in this study indicates an urgent need for the implementation of appropriate workplace violence policies. Reported threats to the healthcare system included poor staff retention and professional disengagement.Highlights:Lateral violence among nurses is one of the most damaging issues affecting the progress of the nursing profession and is well studied in the developed world. The attributes of the phenomenon of lateral violence in a low and middle-income country are described in this paper.Exposure to lateral violence was reported by 96% of participants, forms of lateral violence appeared to be mainly verbal or emotional and nurse managers were the major perpetrators.Assimilated behavior in response to lateral violence among the nurses included professional disengagement, retaliation, avoidance and intent to resign. The pervasiveness of lateral violence among the nurses studied indicates the need to implement appropriate workplace violence policies. </jats:p
