(some col.) ; 30 cm.Lymphocyte 5'-ectonucleotidase (NT) was selected as a mechanism to explain the phenomenon of stress-induced immunosuppression. The findings indicates that NT is a good marker of stress induced immune suppression and correlates negatively with depression scores such as the Beck Depression Inventory, and psychological distress as measured by the TMD scores, and STAI-trait. The suppression of NT appears to be mediated by reactive oxygen species (ROS), and is consistent with the finding of normal NT levels in melancholic patients with high antioxidant intake, the heightened inflammatory responses, the low levels of zinc, the low ascorbate stores, and the down regulation of glucocorticoid receptors reported to occur in stress/depressed patients.Thesis (Ph.D.)--University of Adelaide, Dept. of Psychology, 199

A brief protocol for the creative psychosocial genomic healing experience: The 4-Stage creative process in therapeutic hypnosis and brief psychotherapy

    No full text
The authors present empirical data on therapeutic hypnosis and brief psychotherapy as a 4-Stage Creative Process of focused attention and positive expectancy in professional training workshops of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, the National Institute for the Clinical Applications of Behavioral Medicine, and the Milton H. Erickson Foundation. The authors developed a brief protocol for assessing the 4-Stage Creative Process, which is the core dynamic of the Creative Psychosocial Genomic Healing Experience. They report that the 4-Stage Creative Process for resolving many psychological problems and symptomatic behavior in a satisfactory manner can be learned within 3 trials during 2-day professional workshops. The theory, research, and practice of private problem solving, stress reduction, and mind-body symptom resolution in professional and public settings is discussed. Immediate knowledge of results, positive peer support, and the development of new psychosocial skills in learning how to appropriately communicate live here-and-now novel and numinous experiences is an exhilarating exercise in creating new consciousness that facilitates the confidence and maturation of psychotherapists.Ernest L. """Cleopatra"" from Portraits of Women by Philippe Sollers, translated by Armine Kotin Mortimer"

Philippe Sollers, a notoriously woman-oriented novelist, addresses the relations between the sexes as concerns real women in Portraits de femmes, published by Flammarion in 2013. “Cleopatra” is my translation of the twentieth chapter. Sollers’s book engages in a gentle, good-humored polemic, expressing his delight and tranquil admiration for what women have brought him and especially for how the exceptional women he portrays stand out as admirable human beings. Thus his intensely personal assumption of Cleopatra, via Shakespeare, but the chapter conflates the Egyptian queen with his mistress of more than fifty years, Dominique Rolin, who as she faced death in 2012 bid her lover “Goodbye, little darling!”Open Restriction set for Item 94058 on 2016-10-18T17:19:15Z with date null by [email protected] by Armine Mortimer ([email protected]) on 2016-10-18T17:32:34Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Cleopatra - 3_AM Magazine.pdf: 151618 bytes, checksum: a53d4aafe63999f22afe5451d482473a (MD5)Rejected by Kelly Applegate ([email protected]), reason: Hello. Jane Jacobs and creative cities

    No full text
In February 2007, I published a short review of the biography Jane Jacobs: Urban Visionary, in the Dutch weekly Intermediair. It began as follows: “The Jacobses are a close-knit, productive family. The most famous at this moment is perhaps my cousin Marc, chief designer for Louis Vuitton. My uncles Aad and Georges made a career for themselves in Dutch and Belgian business circles. The name of great-uncle Edgard P. might ring a bell among comic strip fans as the author of the renowned Blake & Mortimer series. But the one I’m most proud of is my American-Canadian great-aunt Jane who died last year.” I thought I had laid it on so heavily that nobody would believe that I was related to all these famous Jacobses. But people did believe it! I even received an email from a fellow professor from Delft, who was very impressed by the fact that I was related to the famous Jane Jacobs: “What a small world it is….

The Book of Mortimer Another Testament!

    No full text
abstract: The Book of Mortimer is a satirical account about the rise of a new modern day Mormon woman prophet named Champ. The mother of six—and wife to a very codependent man that can’t be left alone with a comfortable couch—believes a new testament is buried in a small field conveniently next to her kids’ bus stop. Taking place in a lower class area constructed entirely of beige apartments in Mesa, Arizona, The Book of Mortimer plays on similar themes of the early day Mormon Church and reimagines this American religion if it were discovered in the 21st century. Complete with an elite Home Owner’s Association, a corrupt frozen pizza company, a ten-year old capitalist, a trio of milk purveyors that hold a group of unfortunates hostage in the biggest grocery store in The United States, and an elementary school that is quite possibly run by a Neo-Nazi principal hiding his identity, The Book of Mortimer is an exhaustively entertaining novel, exploring themes of poverty and class, relationships and commitment, and figuring out one’s self-worth in an overwhelming world of persuasion and guilt.Dissertation/ThesisMasters Thesis Creative Writing 201
