Gambiya'da İslami Sosyal Finans Potansiyelinin Araştırılması: Bir Yapısal Denklem Modelleme Yaklaşımı
Recently, research on Islamic social finance (ISF) has been a particular interest among researchers. Within this sector, Islamic microfinance, zakat, and waqf plays a significant role in enhancing financial inclusion, poverty alleviation, and economic empowerment among the impoverished. Nonethless, in a developing country like The Gambia, ISF remains underdeveloped, with limited adoption and awareness about ISF instruments even though about 95% of the population is Muslim. Hence, this study seeks to explore the factors that influence the intention to use Islamic microfinance in the Gambia while also exploring the challenges faced by the Islamic microfinance institutions in the country. Furthermore, the study seeks to explore the perceptions of these institutions regarding the use of Zakat and waqf as funds mobilization tools. The study utilized a mixed-methodology approach, with the quantitative approach analyzed based on survey with 518 respondents by employing structural equation model. Further, the qualitative approach was employed to conduct an interview with managers of Islamic microfinance institutions. The findings from the quantitative analysis established that attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control exerts a significant influence on intention to use Islamic microfinance in the Gambia. Additionally, the analyses reveal that attitude plays a significant mediating role between awareness and knowledge and the intention to use Islamic microfinance. Meanwhile, findings from the qualitative interviews highlights the challenges Islamic microfinance institutions are confronted with, including regulatory challenges, lack of awareness, and capacity constraints in Islamic finance expertise. Additionally, the qualitative analysis shows that there is untapped utilization of zakat and waqf for fund mobilizations in supporting Islamic microfinance institutions to advanced shariah compliant services to the poor and entrepreneurs. In light of the findings, this research offers theoretical and practical contributions on Islamic microfinance adoption behavior. The study provides significant recommendations for regulators, Islamic microfinance institutions, and policymakers. There is a need for enhanced public awareness programs, improved regulatory frameworks, and strategic utilization of zakat and waqf to promote the growth of Islamic microfinance, which ultimately drive financial inclusion and poverty alleviation in The Gambia.
IDEAS INCUBATED FOR SUCCESS : A study on an incubator's strengths and weaknesses within the Swedish innovation system
Idélab is a government financed and non-commercial incubator within Mälardalen University. Their main objective is to give developing support to idea holders and entrepreneurs who have a direct connection to the university. The majority are students that rarely have experience regarding product- and business development. The students need, ambition and knowledge differs when they enter the incubator. Idélab is challenged with adapting their processes to satisfy everyone, and to do so with reasonable resources. Instead of finding out whether or not Idélab can increase the number of successful and growing companies, the dissertation gives the notion that an operational strategy rather be further developed. The organization needs to map out and categorize their users with focus on need and direction. Therefore the recommendation is to redefine the vision and internal as well as external goals. This could help to clarify their own definition of what success and sustainable growth means to their users and themselves
Banking Performance in OIC Member Countries: A Panel Study of Selected Islamic Banks
The Islamic finance industry has witnessed an interrupted progression globally during the last few decades owing to its sustainable and asset-based nature which promotes growth and development. The aim of the study is to investigate the performance of selected Islamic banks in Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member countries by employing the System GMM dynamic panel estimator on a sample of 130 Islamic banks. The results suggest that profitability of Islamic banks is not only influenced by factors related to management decisions but also to changes in macroeconomic environment. Among the bank specific variables, the results suggest that capitalization, asset quality, efficiency and bank size are the key drivers of bank profitability. Furthermore, the findings show that the level of inflation has a positive significant effect implying that Islamic banks perform better during inflationary periods, while real GDP growth rate per capita has no significant impact on profitability. As a policy implication, the further improvement of capital adequacy guidelines and risk management practices for Islamic banks in OIC member countries is eminent. This would further enhance Islamic banks in the global financial industry characterized by increased fragilities in the overall banking sector

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
