In the last years the concern about the occurrence of endocrine disruptor compounds (EDCs) in environmental samples and the human exposure to these compounds has increased. The goal of the research collected in this memory is to develop simpler, faster and more economical analytical methods for the determination of EDCs such as brominated diphenyl ethers (BDEs), alkylphenols (APs), bisphenol A (BPA), perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) or organophosphorus flame retardants (OPFRs) in different types of samples. This memory begins with a general Introduction (in Spanish) that explains the importance of the determination of endocrine disruptor compounds and a brief description of the extraction techniques used: selective pressurized liquid extraction (SPLE), focused ultrasound solid-liquid extraction (FUSLE) and microextraction by packed sorbents (MEPS). Then, there are different chapters for each family of compounds. Each chapter is composed by a description of the properties, uses and effects of the compounds in the environment and in human health and the state-of-the-art of their determination in different kind of samples (in Spanish), followed by the corresponding papers, in their original version (English). The scientific articles included are the following: Chapter 2: Brominated diphenyl ethers 1. Determination of brominated diphenyl ethers (from mono- to hexa- congeners) in indoor dust by pressurized liquid extraction with in cell clean-up and gas chromatography - mass spectrometry M.P. Martínez, J.D. Carrillo and M.T. Tena, Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry 397 (2010) 257-267. 2. Tena, Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry 404 (2012) 289-295. 3. Use of microextraction by packed sorbents following selective pressurized liquid extraction for the determination of brominated diphenyl ethers in sewage sludge by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry M.P. Martínez-Moral and M.T. Tena, Journal of Chromatography A 1364 (2014) 28-35. Chapter 3: Alkylphenols and bisphenol A 4. Focused ultrasound solid-liquid extraction and selective pressurized liquid extraction to determine bisphenol A and alkylphenols in sewage sludge by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry M.P. Martínez-Moral and M.T. Tena, Journal of Separation Science 34 (2011) 2513-2522. Chapter 4: Perfluorinated compounds 5. Determination of perfluorocompounds in popcorn packaging by pressurized liquid extraction and ultra performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry M.P. Martínez-Moral and M.T. Tena, Talanta 101 (2012) 104-109 6. Focused ultrasound solid-liquid extraction of perfluorinated compounds from sewage sludge M.P. Martínez-Moral and M.T. Decision taking under pressure: Evidence on football manager dismissals in Argentina and their consequences

    No full text
The paper focuses on dismissals of football managers and whether such decisions appear to contribute to organisational goals or else to be fruitless exercises in scapegoating. Its empirical setting is Argentina where incidence of sackings is more than one per season per club. It models 20 years of football match results and detects a tendency for a change of manager to be followed by deterioration in team performance, with adverse effects concentrated in results of matches played away. The evidence is consistent with decisions being driven by fan and media pressure rather than in realistic hope of improving the position of the club. © 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved

Explaining inflation and output volatility in Chile : an empirical analysis of forty years

    No full text
We present a data oriented analysis of the effect of different kind of economic shocks on Chilean output growth and inflation over the last 40 years. Two important results are: (1) foreign shocks only explain 17% of the variability of the output growth in the period 1984-2006 whereas it used to account for the 47,2% of output variability in 1966-1983; (2) The participation of foreign shocks to explain the Chilean inflation reaction becomes more importan in the last twienty years because of the price liberalization and Chile's openness to international trade. Results highlight specific features of the Chilean economy not present in other countries.

UNSCRIPTED DRAMA: SOCCER AUDIENCE RESPONSE TO SUSPENSE, SURPRISE AND SHOCK

    No full text
By modeling minute‐by‐minute television audience figures from English Premier League soccer matches, with close to 50,000 minute‐observations, we show that demand is partly driven by suspense and surprise. We also identify an additional relevant factor of appeal to audiences, namely shock, which refers to the difference between pre‐match and current game outcome probabilities. Suspense, surprise, and shock remain significant in the presence of a traditional measure of outcome uncertainty. (JEL C23, D12, L82, L83, Z20

In ths masters paper, Tena Milić Ljubić describes working on a final exam play Pleti mi dušo sevdah, created in a poduction of the Academy for arts and culture in Osijek, under mentoring of doc. art. Tamara Kučinović. In the beginning, the author writes about the project itself and how they've picked the theme which would eventually lead them through the whole creative process. Genre of Sevdah, which they have chosen for the main theme of the play made them investigate and learn about it which inspired and ennobled them. Sevdah, was also the main attitude for themes of every scene which enabled them to, in the most beautiful way, stage all the magic and all troubles of love. She also refferes to scenography and puppets which are specific and acustomed to this kind of puppeteering expression. In her work, she describes the process from picking the thematic to making the final product – play, analyzing every scene and acting/pupeteering work in scenes which is important for symbolism of every story. In conclusion, the author states that the play Pleti mi dušo sevdah has had a heavy influence on her and her views on pupeteering itself

Did trade policy foster Italian industrialization evidences from the effective production rates 1870-1930

    No full text
Trade policy, and its effects oftariffs on structural change and industrialization, is arguably the 1110st contentious topic in Italian economic history. However, so far the discussion has relied almost exclusively on few scattered data and anecdotal evidence. This article builds on a comprehensive data-base of nominal and effective protection rates to test the main hypotheses put forward in the literature. We show that there is little evidence of a deliberate strategy to foster industrialization, or of any consisted strategy at aH. So we argue that the actual lay-out of Italian duties was the somewhat haphazard outcome of several causes, notably the need for revenue and the lobbying by sectional interests
