    No full text
Afrocentric architecture for low-cost housing is a sustainable, economic, and cultural solution that can be used to address the housing needs of lowincome communities in Kano, Nigeria. Low-cost housing is a critical need in many developing countries, including Nigeria, where rapid urbanization and population growth have led to a shortage of affordable and sustainable housing options. This paper explores the concept of Afrocentric architecture for low-cost housing design in Kano Nigeria, with a focus on the sustainable, economic, and cultural benefits of this approach. The paper begins by providing background information on low-cost housing design in Kano Nigeria and discussing the importance of Afrocentric architecture in this context. The study employs a qualitative approach, case studies, interviews, and Observation, to identify key principles of Afrocentric architecture that can be incorporated into low-cost housing design in Kano, Nigeria. The limited integration of Afrocentric architecture principles in low-cost housing design in Nigeria has led to a disconnect between cultural heritage and contemporary design practices and hindered the potential economic, social, and environmental benefits of sustainable housing design. In addition, it discusses the economic benefits of Afrocentric architecture for low-cost housing design, including how it can create jobs, stimulate local economies, and reduce construction costs. The paper explores the cultural benefits of Afrocentric architecture for low-cost housing design, including how it can preserve local culture and heritage, promote social cohesion and community building, and contribute to cultural development in Kano Nigeria. The study's findings provide important insights into the potential benefits of Afrocentric architecture for low-cost housing design in Nigeria and inform future design and policy decisions related to sustainable development, cultural preservation, and economic growth

Abdulkarim Ismail, Amna & Fellnäs, Ingela (2014). Språkstörning i ett flerspråkigt perspektiv. En fallstudie. Language impairment in a multilingual perspective. A case study. Language Impairment in a multilingual perspective A case study Abstract/ Summary Amna Ismail, Abdulkarim & Fellnäs, Ingela (2014) Language Impairment in a multilingual perspective. A case study. School development and leadership, special education, learning and society, Malmö Highschool. Purpose The purpose of our research has been to study school situation for a bilingual pupil with specific language impairment by taking part of the teachers experience and through that we get to know how teachers create a beneficial learning environment for pupils. We also wanted to know how the pupil and her parents feel about the school situation. The main questions in the research How do teachers create a beneficial learning environment for bilingual pupils with specific language impairment? How do the parents and the pupil feel about the school situation? How does the pupil learn and understand during lessons? Theoretical frame Vygotskijs social cultural theory (1934) was our main theory that we used when we analyzed this research. We also used special educational perspective. Method Our research is a case study about one pupil with Specific Language Impairment. Our interview questions were based on quality methods when we interviewed the pupil, her parents and her teachers. We have also observed the pupil at seven different occasions. Result and analyses The purpose of our research was achieved by taking part of the participants’ stories and experiences. The results show that the parents were in a real need of talking about their feelings and experiences. The pupil has talked about her feelings and experiences and we believe that through these stories we are now assured that this pupil gained the help and support that suited her needs. The teachers have talked about their successful methods which they used in the communication class. Knowledge contribution in a relationship to what has already been researched and what does our examination reached We have found that the teachers use researches of teaching models which are described in previous research about language development work (Cummins, 1997; Gibbons, 2006; Thomas & Collier, 1997). In their stories parents testify as in previous research (Bouakaz & Persson, 2007; Lahdenpäre, 1997; Stigendal, 2000) the gap between the school and the parents with another cultural background than the Swedish. We believe that there is a need to increase the understanding and the cooperation between the parents and the Swedish school. Special educational implications We believe that teaching pupils with specific language impairment in specific teaching groups has many advantages even if it occurs in excluding forms. However, it is important to spread the knowledge that exists among the staff to the teachers in all preschools and schools in order to enable all children to get the chance to be taught in inclusive forms. No full text
The purpose of this research is to evaluate the performance of the Directional Interchange with Semi-Direct Ramp Connection with Loops (DI-SDRL) interchange in terms of traffic operations under a wide-range of traffic demand conditions. Towards this end, the performance of this interchange has been compared to a conventional one, i.e. Directional with Loops Interchange (DLI). Thirty different traffic scenarios were assessed were developed to test their performance using a state-of-the-art traffic microsimulation tool PTV-VISSIM. The results showed that the DI-SDRL interchange design outperforms the conventional DLI interchange in terms of vehicle hours traveled and average speed. Nevertheless, the DI-SDRL underperforms the DLI in terms of vehicle kilometer traveled. There was no significant difference in terms of average delay. At the individual segment level, the analysis showed that the DI-SDRL interchange outperforms the DLI at diverging segments; on the contrary, the DLI interchange outperforms the DI-SDRL at merging segments. The accepted manuscript in pdf format is listed with the files at the bottom of this page.
