    Islam and Existentialism: An Analysis of the Philosophy regarding God, Man, Universe, Existence and Education

    Existentialism, as a philosophy, revolves around the man’s uniqueness and his experience in an unconcerned universe, unexplainable human existence, focus on freedom of choice and the responsibility acceptance of the consequences of one’s actions. Islam, on the other hand, is a complete code of life which explains all areas of man and has major focus on spiritual and intellectual capacity development of man at the same time for the reason that man is the combination of body and soul or spirit and matter. The current study contrasts Existentialism and Islam with respect to the ideology about God, man, universe, existence and education. The study, by presenting representative notions of both atheist existentialists and non-atheist existentialists, at the end passes the philosophy from Islamic filter and presents implications/recommendations for Muslims teachers and students

    Effect of Sowing Dates and Seed Rates on the Agro-Physiological Traits of Wheat

    Wheat yield in Pakistan is very low due to improper seed rate and not sowing the crop at proper time. Delay in sowing of wheat causes linear reduction in grain yield. To evaluate the effect of seed rates and sowing dates on agro-physiological traits of wheat an experiment was conducted at New Developmental Farm, The University of Agriculture Peshawar-Pakistan during winter 2012-13. Randomized complete block design (RCBD) with split plot arrangement having three replications was used. Sowing dates (29th October, 10th November, 24th November, 10th December, 26th December and 10th January) were kept in the main plots, whereas, seed rates (120,150,180 kg ha-1) were allotted to sub plots. Wheat variety “SIRAN-2010” was sown in a plot size of 5m x 1.8m (9 m2), having six rows with row to row distance of 30 cm and row length 5m. All the standard agronomic practices were uniformly adopted for the whole experiment. Results showed that maximum spikes m-2 (411), grains spike-1 (52), thousand grains weight (43 g), biological yield (12327 kg ha-1) and grain yield (5587 kg ha-1) were recorded in plots sown at 10th November. Seed rate of 150 kg ha-1 showed maximum number of grains spike-1 (44), spikes m-2 (307), thousand grains weight (37g), biological yield (9568 kg ha-1) and grain yield (4296 kg ha-1). It was concluded from the results that wheat should preferably be sown between 29th October and 24th November at 150 kg ha-1 seed rate to get higher grain yield in Peshawar valley

    Process system analysis on oil processing facility and economic viability from oil well-to-tank

    Hydrocarbon processing from extraction to the final product is an important aspect that needs an optimised technology for consumption-led market growth. This study investigated real data from the oil processing facility and analysed the simulation model for the entire crude oil processing unit based on the process system engineering aspect using Aspen HYSYS. The study mainly emphasises the process optimisation in processing the hydrocarbon for the maximum yield of the product with less energy consumption. The investigation also includes a thorough economic analysis of the processing facility. The datasets for oil properties are obtained from a modern petroleum refinery. The investigation comprises of varying transient conditions, such as well shutdowns using three oil reservoirs (low, intermediate, and heavy oil). The impact of various conditions, including process heating, well shutdown, oil combinations, presence of water on the production, is analysed. The results indicate that the factors involving crude oil processing are significantly affected by the process conditions, such as pressure, volume, and temperature. The vapour recovery unit is integrated with the oil processing model to recover the separator's gas. The optimisation analysis is performed to maximise the liquid recovery with Reid vapour pressure of 7 and minimum water content in oil around 0.5%. Economic analysis provided an overall capital cost of 9.7x10(6)andanoperatingcostof 9.7 x 10(6) and an operating cost of 2.1 x 10(6) for the process configuration.     Perspectives on the status of the teaching profession in Pakistan: an investigation of trainee teachers’ reasons for choosing the teaching profession, the role of the teacher and problems faced by trainee teachers

    This thesis mainly analyses the trainee teachers’ reasons for choosing the teaching profession, the problems faced by them, perceptions about the role of a teacher and views about the status of the teaching profession in Pakistan. This study considered both trainee teachers and teacher trainers from a Teacher Training Institute, to examine the reasons for choosing the teaching profession in Pakistan. To seek the answer to the research questions of this study, grounded theory procedures are used to explore the views of participants and to provide an in-depth understanding in a particular context. In this research study, the research data are collected from three groups of participants by conducting one-to-one interviews and focus group discussions. On the basis of the views of research participants, four major research categories are established and under each research category different sub categories are formed. It is reflected in the findings of this study that trainee teachers face many problems and difficulties in the Teacher Training Institute. Data analysis indicates the teaching profession is often associated with low achievers and poor people. It is also considered a respected profession and trainee teachers have a desire to bring positive changes to Pakistani society by adopting the teaching profession. Furthermore, teachers have a significant role in Pakistani society as there are very high expectations of a teacher; and many good qualities, roles and responsibilities are associated with a teacher. The results of this study indicate there is a great influence from the social, cultural and religious norms of Pakistani society on the participants' perceptions and understanding about the different aspects of this study
