Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

No full textIl confronto progettuale con il tema delle aree interne fa di solito riferimento a strategie d’intervento che prevedono piani d’azione a lungo termine, con visioni che implicano grandi movimenti finanziari e trasformazioni alla macro-scala. L’assenza di infrastrutture adeguate, servizi sanitari, centri per l’istruzione, rende effettivamente necessaria, per questi territori, una ridefinizione ad ampio raggio degli assetti politici, economici e sociali. Ma in che modo l’architettura, attraverso il progetto, può, anche con interventi puntuali, occupare un ruolo cruciale all’interno di dinamiche di maggiore respiro? Questi luoghi, che hanno inmolti casi perso la forza identitaria che un tempo li caratterizzava, hanno bisogno di azioni mirate che si nutrano delle specificità che ciascuno di essi custodisce. Si fa riferimento a tattiche di progetto per indicare modalità di intervento che, rifuggendo da astrazioni, cercano un contatto diretto con il territorio, guardando all’architettura come manifestazione di un vocabolario consolidato e non come cifra espressiva individuale.Parole chiave: condivisione, identità, prossimitàPROJECT IN PROXIMITY: DESIGN TACTICS FOR INTERNAL AREASThe design approach with the theme of internal areas usually refers to intervention strategies that include long-term action plans, with visions that involve large financial movements and transformations at the macro-scale. The absence of adequate infrastructures, health services, education centers effectively makes it necessary, for these territories, to redefine the political, economic and social assets in a wide range. But howcan architecture, through design, play a crucial role within the dynamics of greater breadth, even with timely interventions? These places, which in many cases have lost the identity strength that once characterized them, need targeted actions that feed on the specificities that each of them holds. Reference is made to design tactics to indicate methods of intervention that, shunning abstractions, seek direct contact with the territory, looking at architecture as a manifestation of a consolidated vocabulary and not as an individualexpressive figure.Keywords: sharing, identity, proximit
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. AAA_Architettura Anonima Autorevole. Tra individuale e collettivo: declinazioni possibili nel progetto di architettura
Get PDFL’argomento affrontato nella tesi nasce dal desiderio di approfondire tematiche che riguardano da vicino il ruolo dell’architetto nella società. Nel contemporaneo sembra infatti che il mondo dell’architettura si sia attestata sull’estremizzazione di due polarità: da un lato lo «splendore dell’architettura che producono gli architetti del cosiddetto star system […] l’architettura d’autore»; dall’altro quella “anonima” che attualmente identifica una produzione edilizia di bassa qualità, speculativa, altrove definita “indecente”, ma che in passato testimoniava l’esistenza di una qualità costruttiva diffusa, quella i cui valori caratterizzano la riconosciuta produzione “non-pedegreed”.
Abbandonata al suo destino questa seconda strada, l’attenzione nei confronti dell’architettura, sia in termini di interesse mediatico che di grandi investimenti, sembra essere oggi determinata più dalla sua capacità di imporsi come brand che per le effettive potenzialità di incidere nei modi in cui le persone vivono, si incontrano e abitano le città, le piazze, le strade, i territori.
Le risposte che l’architettura può offrire ai bisogni della società sono ricercate nell’ “invenzione”, nel gesto formale eclatante e nella sua sostanziale irripetibilità.
Muovendo da questi presupposti, si è cercato di indagare, attraverso la tesi, sulle ragioni sottese a tale atteggiamento isolazionista e individualista, tratteggiando dapprima le questioni da un punto teorico e poi restringendo il campo d’indagine a temi specificamente correlati all’architettura e alla progettazione architettonica.
In che misura può esistere una possibilità per l’architettura di occupare un ruolo intermedio tra i due scenari delineati? Come è possibile ricondurre la singolarità delle azioni soggettive ad interventi in grado di determinare cambiamenti più ampi, che tengano conto anche di valori collettivi?
L’intento della ricerca è pertanto quello di rintracciare all’interno del panorama architettonico contemporaneo qualità nate dall’incontro tra uomo e progetto, guardando all’architettura come espressione di un vocabolario consolidato e collettivo, e non come cifra stilistica autoriale
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
