Exploitation Techniques of IoST Vulnerabilities in Air-Gapped Networks and Security Measures—A Systematic Review

    No full text
IP cameras and digital video recorders, as part of the Internet of Surveillance Things (IoST) technology, can sometimes allow unauthenticated access to the video feed or management dashboard. These vulnerabilities may result from weak APIs, misconfigurations, or hidden firmware backdoors. What is particularly concerning is that these vulnerabilities can stay unnoticed for extended periods, spanning weeks, months, or even years, until a malicious attacker decides to exploit them. The response actions in case of identifying the vulnerability, such as updating software and firmware for millions of IoST devices, might be challenging and time-consuming. Implementing an air-gapped video surveillance network, which is isolated from the internet and external access, can reduce the cybersecurity threats associated with internet-connected IoST devices. However, such networks can also be susceptible to other threats and attacks, which need to be explored and analyzed. In this work, we perform a systematic literature review on the current state of research and use cases related to compromising and protecting cameras in logical and physical air-gapped networks. We provide a network diagram for each mode of exploitation, discuss the vulnerabilities that could result in a successful attack, demonstrate the potential impacts on organizations in the event of IoST compromise, and outline the security measures and mechanisms that can be deployed to mitigate these security risks

IoST: A Multi-CubeSat Cognitive Radio Network

    No full text
Fifth- generation communication also known as internet of things is rolling out worldwide. It has provided higher network capacity and speed for mobile broadband communications; however, 5G network focuses only on terrestrial coverage. 6G and Cognitive Radio (CR) is expected to be the future solution to all heavy data traffic and globe coverage. Satellite communication is anticipated to cover rural areas, sea, spanning air, and space in what is known as Internet of Space Things (IoST). Low Earth Orbit (LEO) CubeSat orbits earth provide real time measurements with low transmission power and high data rate. Cognitive radio will focus on providing efficient spectrum use and resources allocations. In this paper, a multi CubeSat cognitive radio network is proposed to improve time delay, increase data exchange, and increase the Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) of the communication system. simulation results demonstrate the convergence of the multi CubeSat system improving the signal to noise ratio for different number of CubeSats structure

Deep Learning-Driven Behavioral Modeling in IoST for Mental Health Monitoring and Intervention

    No full text
Multimodal data have emerged as a cornerstone for understanding and analyzing complex human behaviors, particularly in mental health monitoring. In this study, we propose a deep learning-driven behavioral modeling framework for intelligence of social things (IoST)-based mental health monitoring and intervention, designed to integrate and analyze multimodal data—including text, speech, and physiological signals—captured from interconnected IoST devices. The framework incorporates an adaptive attention-based fusion mechanism that dynamically adjusts the contribution of each modality based on contextual relevance, enhancing the robustness of multimodal integration. Additionally, we employ a temporal-aware recurrent neural network with an attention mechanism to capture long-term dependencies and evolving behavioral patterns, ensuring precise mental health state prediction. To validate the framework, extensive experiments were conducted using three publicly available datasets: DAIC-WOZ, SEED, and MELD. Comparative experiments demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed framework, achieving state-of-the-art accuracy of 93.5%, F1-scores of 92.9%, and AUC-ROC of 0.95 values. Ablation studies highlight the critical roles of attention mechanisms and multimodal integration, showcasing significant performance improvements over single-modality and simplified fusion approaches. These findings underscore the framework’s potential as a reliable and efficient tool for real-time mental health monitoring in IoST environments, paving the way for scalable and personalized interventions.Post-print / Final draf

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    No full text
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    No full text
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
