Ferrarotti: Histoire et histoires de vie

    No full text

The autonomy of the biographical method, the interactive praxis of life stories, the participative character of the research based on oral sources, the proposal of reading a society through biographies, are all epistemological principles which theoretical foundations are in debt with the contributions of Italian sociologist Franco Ferrarotti. Chair of the Università di Roma "La Sapienza", the author belongs to the rich tradition of Italian school of oral history, that from Gramsci, De Martino and Bosio has used the autobiographies as a privileged acces to the subaltern classes. His books Storia e storie di vita (1981) and La storia e il quotidiano (1985) are basic works for researchers using oral sources. Bilingualism and language contact in 16th-century Northern Italy. Some external evidence for the phonological history of French

    No full text
The paper aims to present some lesser-known evidence relevant to the phonological history of French gathered through the bilingual texts in the Opera Jocunda by Giovan Giorgio Alione, published in Asti, Piedmont, Northern Italy, in 1521. In these texts, French is spelled using the graphemic system that the author employed primarily to write in his native Gallo-Italian dialect, thus rendering French phonetically transparent through linguistic comparison. This makes it possible to sketch a phonetic profile of the French known to the author at the end of the Middle French period. The evidence gathered seems to point to a more conservative variety if compared to the commonly reconstructed relative chronology of the phonological history of French. Some hypotheses in a framework of historical sociolinguistics and language contact are put forward to explain this discrepancy

Rare variants in alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency: a systematic literature review

    No full text
Background: Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (AATD) is a largely underrecognized genetic condition characterized by low Alpha 1 Antitrypsin (AAT) serum levels, resulting from variations in SERPINA1. Many individuals affected by AATD are thought to be undiagnosed, leading to poor patient outcomes. The Z (c.1096G > A; p.Glu366Lys) and S (c.863A > T; p.Glu288Val) deficiency variants are the most frequently found variants in AATD, with the Z variant present in most individuals diagnosed with AATD. However, there are many other less frequent variants known to contribute to lung and/or liver disease in AATD. To identify the most common rare variants associated with AATD, we conducted a systematic literature review with the aim of assessing AATD variation patterns across the world. Methods: A systematic literature search was performed to identify published studies reporting AATD/SERPINA1 variants. Study eligibility was assessed for the potential to contain relevant information, with quality assessment and data extraction performed on studies meeting all eligibility criteria. AATD variants were grouped by variant type and linked to the geographical region identified from the reporting article. Results: Of the 4945 articles identified by the search string, 864 contained useful information for this study. Most articles came from the United States, followed by the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, and Italy. Collectively, the articles identified a total of 7631 rare variants and 216 types of rare variant across 80 counties. The F (c.739C > T; p.Arg247Cys) variant was identified 1,281 times and was the most reported known rare variant worldwide, followed by the I (c.187C > T; p.Arg63Cys) variant. Worldwide, there were 1492 Null/rare variants that were unidentified at the time of source article publication and 75 rare novel variants reported only once. Conclusion: AATD goes far beyond the Z and S variants, suggesting there may be widespread underdiagnosis of patients with the condition. Each geographical region has its own distinctive variety of AATD variants and, therefore, comprehensive testing is needed to fully understand the true number and type of variants that exist. Comprehensive testing is also needed to ensure accurate diagnosis, optimize treatment strategies, and improve outcomes for patients with AATD

I dialetti del Piemonte orientale. Contatto e mutamento linguistico

    No full text
This study analyzes the historical and sociolinguistic dynamics of dialect contact among Galloitalic dialects in Eastern Piedmont, which have been reconstructed with the analysis of several linguistic features. They have been examined at several levels of linguistic analysis, with special attention to the diatopic and diachronic variation. The study makes use of a great array of sources for linguistic data, such as field interviews, linguistic atlases, descriptive grammars, and historical texts

This book presents a combination of practical suggestions, the latest research findings, and an abundance of case studies concerning reflective language teaching. Moreover, each of the fourteen chapters in the volume develops and discusses various aspects of reflective language teaching, providing a well-rounded and comprehensive view of the topic. The first seven chapters illustrate what reflective language teaching entails by means of a number of useful techniques that can be profitably adopted to enhance an individual teacher’s self-awareness and to improve his or her teaching practice. The remaining chapters discuss reflective language teaching as an effective tool that can be adopted at an institution-wide level in an effort to guarantee overall improvement in teaching practices, which include monitoring one’s teaching style, sharing ideas on critical classroom events and issues, being informed about the latest teaching techniques, and overcoming a sense of isolation

Heat Release Rate Markers for the Adelaide Jet in Hot Coflow Flame

    No full text
In the present work, the correlation between the Heat Releaser Rate (HRR) and species mole fractions and net reaction rates is studied. The PaSR closure model is employed in a RANS framework to implement a detailed kinetic scheme, including the excited species OH*, used as a HRR marker. The effect of oxygen dilution on the combustion regime is investigated, as it can lead to Moderate or Intense Low-Oxygen Dilution (MILD) conditions. Two cases with different levels of oxygen concentration are analyzed. The results suggest the possibility of combining chemical species to construct an appropriate scalar to achieve better correlation with the HRR. It is found that typical markers such as radicals O, OH, OH* correlate fairly well with the HRR but improved correlations can be achieved with appropriate species mole fractions combinations, particularly for the MILD region of the flame. This project has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement no. 714605. The author Marco Ferrarotti also wishes to thank Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique FNRS Belgium for financing his research.SCOPUS: ar.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe
