Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
This research work is a contribution to design printing systems, presenting a proposal in order to analyze devices and to develop a raster printer system having extra-large format, specially and update need by visual communication enterprises, having small and medium size. Such printing system is intended for print large-scale images within the range of 3,5 meters of mouth with adequate resolution (smaller) for visualization above 6 meters supporting printing velocities up to 40 m2/h and lower cost. Due to its conception it is able to print directly through its base plan on the final surface, allowing printing on rigid surfaces as well as on flexible films (papers, plastic, canvas etc#) The prototype of the proposed printing system has three main modules: The post-processing module reads the information to be printed, sets the signals and generates the specific commands that actuate on the specific drives placed on the second module. The printing head in the third module follows the program feeding the drives of the x - y gantry in order to do the printing movements. The reading of the printing color and x - y position informations for each point in the drawing has been implemented in the post-processing module using two methods, one by hardware, using an existing information in a standard printer in use, and another way, directly from the printing graphics file. For to better know how to optimize the dynamic behavior of the printing system the two motion axis have been modeled in order to get its transfer functions. The simulation of this functions allows to know its behavior in order to help obtain an adequate values set of the parameters of the motion controller. After these procedures, systematic time measurements helped to match the given specifications. The main implemented system software integrates all these sub-systems and commands the printer machine. Qualifying printing tests using extra-large format show that the system supports well the imposed requirements. Right now the developed prototype is in experimental tests aiming optimization

Location Analysis of 3D Printer Manufacturing Industry
Advanced manufacturing has been well addressed in American policies, especially since 2010 when the States wanted to revitalize the economy and create jobs by taking advantage of its competitive sectors. The U.S. has strength in high-tech manufacturing industries due to endowments of advanced technology and high-skill labor. 3D printing is a typical advanced manufacturing industry that is high value added, driven by technological innovation, highly skilled labor, cutting edge materials and production process.
The U.S. has shown an obvious advantage in this industry. 3D printer manufacturing emerged in America in the 1980s and has surged ahead during the recent decade. The distribution of 3D printer companies is not bound within California where 3D printing was invented, but has spread out to the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic and Great Lakes. In this thesis I look into two questions: what art the location factors of 3D printer manufacturing industry; why some cities that are not noted for high-tech clusters can attract 3D printer manufacturers.
To find answers, I first summarized the location criteria of innovative manufacturing industries raised by existing studies. This is followed by my analyses of the evolution of 3D printer technology, the industry's market performances and the development trajectory of major companies. They illustrate the characteristics of 3D printer manufacturing and the reasons for their concentration at specific states. Based on these findings, I adjusted the list of location factors according. In this thesis, two case studies of 3D printer producers are presented. the first one is the biggest 3D printer firm 3D Systems Corp.'s relocation from California to Rock Hill, South Carolina in 2005, and the second is a promising firm MakerBot Industries' establishment and development in Brooklyn, New York City since 2009. I interviewed the two companies to know their considerations when choosing their sites of business and meanwhile get their comments on the location selection criteria of 3D printer manufacturing.
To demonstrate these factors, I analyzed the socioeconomic data, business and knowledge network as well as relevant policies that could account for the development of 3D printer manufacturing in these cities. My hypothesis is that highly skilled labor, knowledge sharing, and business networks are important factors that would affect their location decisions. this thesis ends up with recommendations for cities that are not the origin of new technologies to attract innovative manufacturing industries like 3D printer manufacturing

Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
