Faunistic spider collections in the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin: The collection of Erich Hesse
No full textThe ‘Hesse collection’ of spiders (Araneae) and harvestmen (Opiliones) in the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin is documented. Biographical notes on Erich Hesse – a former arachnid curator at the museum (1921–1940) – are provided. The ‘Hesse collection’ was actually put together by other workers, and can be broadly divided into two parts. One comes from Bielinek (= Bellinchen) on the Polish side of the Oder Valley (West Pommerania); now part of the ‘Unteres Odertal’ National Park. This Bielinek material includes notable records of Heriaeus oblongus Simon, 1918 and Gibbaranea ullrichi (Hahn, 1835). The other part of the collection comes from Colbitz-Letzlinger Heide in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Notable here are Pistius truncatus (Pallas, 1772) and Philodromus buchari Kubcová, 2004; the latter representing the first record of this species for Saxony-Anhalt

No full textDissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e Expressão, Programa de Pós-graduação em Estudos da Tradução, Florianópolis, 2011Esta pesquisa compara a tradução brasileira "Debaixo das Rodas" (1971) com o original Unterm Rad (1906) de Hermann Hesse a partir dos acréscimos aos diálogos e trechos narrativos pelo tradutor Álvaro Cabral. Com base na prototipologia textual proposta por Snell-Hornby (1995), na qual a análise da tradução é feita de maneira interdisciplinar, a recepção do projeto literário de Hesse em relação ao romance escolar Unterm Rad na Alemanha como em outros países onde foi mais lido (PFEIFER, 1977; VAHLBUSCH, 2009) auxilia a configuração do contexto da tradução brasileira. Na interface entre a Literatura Comparada e os Estudos da Tradução, o percurso de uma obra literária do cânone a partir de sua cultura fonte e sua passagem por outras culturas alvo exemplica a discussão sobre a compreensão do texto fonte pelo tradutor (REISS, 2000). Da mesma forma, na análise dos aspectos extralinguísticos e funcionais dos textos fonte e alvo, podem se ilustrar tendências e estratégias tradutórias que se desenvolveram e vem sendo estudadas nos últimos 40 anos em Teorias e Estudos da Tradução.This research compares the Brazilian translation Debaixo das Rodas (1971) with its original Unterm Rad (1906) by Hermann Hesse, taking into consideration the additions made by the translator Álvaro Cabral to the dialogues and narrative passages. Based on the textual prototypology proposed by Snell-Hornby (1995), in which the analysis of translation is interdisciplinary, the reception of Hesse's literary project regarding his school romance in Germany, as well as in other countries where it was most read (PFEIFER, 1977; VAHLBUSCH, 2009), helps setting the context of the Brazilian translation. At the interface between Comparative Literature and Translation Studies, the history of the canons# literary work from its source culture and its passage through other target cultures illustrates the discussion on the understanding of the source text by the translator (REISS, 2000). Likewise, translation strategies can be explained by the analysis of the functional and extralinguistic aspects of the source and target texts in the development of Translation Studies in the last 40 years

HESSE MANIFOLDS AND HESSIAN SYMMETRIES OF MULTIFIELD COSMOLOGICAL MODELS

All rights reserved.I give a brief overview of the mathematical theory of Noether symmetries of multifield cosmological models, which decompose naturally into visible and Hessian (a.k.a. ‘hidden’) symmetries. While visible symmetries correspond to those infinitesimal isometries of the Riemannian target space of the scalar field map which preserve the scalar potential, Hessian symmetries have a much deeper theory. The latter correspond to Hesse functions, defined as solutions of the so-called Hesse equation of the target space. By definition, a Hesse manifold is a Riemannian manifold which admits nontrivial Hesse functions – not to be confused with a Hessian manifold (the latter being a Riemannian manifold whose metric is locally the Hessian of a function). All Hesse n-manifolds M are non-compact and characterized by their index, defined as the dimension of the space of Hesse functions, which carries a natural symmetric bilinear pairing. The Hesse index is bounded from above by n + 1 and, when the metric is complete, this bound is attained iff M is a Poincaré ball, in which case the space of Hesse functions identifies with ℝ1,n through an isomorphism constructed from the Weierstrass map. More generally, any elementary hyperbolic space form is a complete Hesse manifold and any Hesse manifold whose local Hesse index is maximal is hyperbolic. In particular, the class of complete Hesse surfaces coincides with that of elementary hyperbolic surfaces and hence any such surface is isometric with the Poincaré disk, the hyperbolic punctured disk or a hyperbolic annulus. Thus Hesse manifolds generalize hyperbolic manifolds. On a complete Hesse manifold (M, G), the value of any Hesse function Λ can be expressed though the distance from a characteristic subset of M determined by Λ. "Questa edizione di Musik des Einsamen non ha soltanto il merito di riproporre la silloge poetica di Hermann Hesse in una nuova traduzione, ma anche di arricchirla inserendo testi non compresi nella versione italiana precedente e alcuni acquerelli dell'autore che forniscono un interessante contrappunto ai versi.
L'ottima traduzione, inoltre, riesce a restituire un altro elemento fondamentale della silloge, il contrappunto tra silenzio e musica.
