    He-he-he, to laugh

    No full text
A lovely melody taken from a Rungano story. The present musician himself had added his own instrumental accompaniment to an old song. After the last song, it is surprising to find that this is played on the same instrument, the key or mode seems to be quite different. "He-he-he laughing! He-he-he on the path! Do not be surprise if you see the Buzi river brown, It was because Manyati washed his gums. It is really me they are talking about. The little girl has disappointed me, She told me to wash myself so that we could be lovers; So I waited to be the first to wash in the pool." Spoken: "This is why the girls all laugh at us!" Song from a story with Mbira dze chiNdau

Towards an understanding of the impact of the online news environment on individual traders’ financial decisions

    No full text
This thesis, which is divided into three papers, examines the impact of the online news environment on individual traders’ financial risk-taking and decision-making. The thesis employs a news analytics dataset secured from Thomson Reuters that includes over 35 million news items and two individual-level trading datasets secured from two UK-based retail trading brokerages that include seven million trades placed by over 44,000 individual traders. The first paper examines the role of mobile devices in altering the news-individual trading relationship. The results suggest that mobile devices are associated with more pro-sentiment trading patterns. In particular, individual traders raise their trading volume and frequency to buy/sell the market following an increase in positive/negative news sentiment and reduce the trading activities to buy/sell the market following an increase in negative/positive news sentiment. The mobile devices’ effects also spill over to the PC channel, leading to more pro-sentiment trading patterns on the PC channel as well. The results also suggest that mobile devices have little impact on how news sentiment affects individuals’ trading performance. This paper reveals how mobile devices alter individuals’ responses to online news sentiment, contributing to understanding the effects of mobile devices on news dissemination in financial markets through their impact on individual traders. The second paper examines how the news environment affects individual traders’ sequential decision-making. In particular, the paper examines how the impact of individual traders’ prior trading gains on their subsequent trading decisions depends on (i) the neutral news volume and (ii) the positive and negative news sentiments. The results suggest that individuals increase trade size in response to prior gains, but the magnitude of the increase is dependent on the type of news sentiment environment in which the prior gains were made — the news sentiment that is consistent/inconsistent with the prior gaingenerating decisions amplifying/reducing the impact of the prior gains. Additionally, while the number of neutral news can lead individuals to increase their following trade size, it does not affect the relationship between prior gains and subsequent trade size. This study complements previous literature on individuals’ sequential decision-making. The results demonstrate that the impact of prior outcomes does not stay consistent across contexts, but instead, it depends on contextual factors such as the sentiment in the news environment. The third paper examines to what extent the news sentiment affects traders’ disposition effect, which refers to the phenomenon that traders tend to be willing to close positions in gains but be reluctant to close positions in losses. The results suggest that individuals exhibit a greater disposition effect when shortselling the market. More importantly, it is found that news relevant to equity market indices (e.g., the FTSE100) emerging during the period when a trader holds the positions has a significant effect on the trader’s propensity to close the positions. When the news environment is dominated by negative sentiment (i.e. news sentiment that predicts the market would fall), the propensity to close positions in losses is considerably higher, and the disposition effects are significantly reduced, compared to when the news is dominated by positive sentiment. This paper complements previous literature on the relationship between financial news and disposition effect by demonstrating the moderating effect of the news on traders’ disposition effects at the individual trader’s level. Taken together, this thesis contributes to understanding the impact of the online news environment on individual traders’ financial decision-making and risk-taking through the lens of three important elements: “mobile devices”, “prior gains”, and “unrealized returns”. The thesis extends previous literature on financial news dissemination via individual traders across financial markets. It has important implications for those dealing with individual traders and regulating individual trading activitie

Design Of 3-Stream(He-He-He) Plate-Fin Heat Exchanger For Helium Plant

Plasma Research belongs to a new generation of tokamaks with the major objective being steady state operation of advanced configuration plasma. Liquid helium plant is required for superconducting magnets. The effectiveness of the heat exchangers which is used in the helium plant should be close to 100%. For some cases, heat exchangers with effectiveness less than 90% can be a reason for failure of helium plant to produce liquid helium. To achieve such high effectiveness, it is necessary to use plate fin heat exchangers, which provides very high heat transfer surface area for heat exchange per unit volume (ratio greater than 700 m2/m3) of heat exchanger. Such heat exchangers also have benefit of low pressure drop of fluid flowing through it. The helium refrigerator and liquefier (HRL), planned for development at Institute for plasma research (IPR), will have eight main heat exchangers, 3 turbo expanders with Joule- Thomson expansion valves for achieving liquid helium production. The fourth exchanger, whose nominal operating temperature range is ~30 K to ~10 K, is the 3-stream type (He/He/He) plate fin heat exchanger. This 3-stream (He/He/He) heat exchanger will be installed inside a vacuum chamber having vacuum of about ¡¼10¡½^(-5) mbar. High effectiveness, compact volume and low pressure drop are main optimizing parameters for the design of this heat exchanger. This design work is a step towards the development of the indigenous liquid helium plant

Thin ³He-⁴He physisorbed films are examples of strongly interacting, quasi two-dimensional, fermion-boson mixture systems. The properties of the mixture systems can be tuned by changing the substrate or the ⁴He film thickness. In this paper, we discuss the ground-state and magnetic groundstate of the ³He subsystem and also the interactions between the excitations of the ⁴He superfluid film with the single-particle excitations of the adsorbed ³He. The ground-state of the ³He system is calculated using a model for the ³He-³He effective interaction in the static ⁴He film which explicitly includes the effective interaction due to exchange of virtual film excitations (ripplons). This latter effective interaction is evaluated in the random phase approximation and is shown not to be capable of causing the ³He system to be self-bound. We discuss the evidence from magnetization, third sound and heat capacity measurements that the ³He first transverse excited state is being occupied prior to monolayer completionТонкі плівки ³He-⁴He є прикладом сильно взаємодіючих, квазідвовимірних, ферміонно-бозонних змішаних систем. The research described in this publication was made possible in part by Award No. UW0–1012 of the U.S. Civilian Research and Development Foundation for Independent States of the Former Soviet Union (CRDF)

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
