The effectiveness of weekly versus daily Iron supplementation among Mild anemic pregnant women
THE EFFECTIVENESS OF WEEKLY VERSUS DAILY IRON SUPPLEMENTATION
AMONG MILD ANEMIC PREGNANT WOMEN. Anemia is a public health problem that affects rich and poor population.
Pregnant women are particularly vulnerable. Supplementation of diet with iron compounds
during pregnancy has been recommended by international and local organizations for women of
reproductive age. Traditionally, women have been prescribed iron supplement during pregnancy as daily regime. Recently, weekly supplementation has been suggested, since it takes advantage of the turnover time of intestinal mucosa cells favoring iron absorption regulation and is more
economical and safer from the public health perspective. To study the effectiveness of weekly compared with daily iron
supplementation among mild anemic pregnant women. This is a randomized controlled trial comparing the effectiveness of a weekly
versus daily iron supplementation. Pregnant women at 12-20 weeks of gestation with hemoglobin of 9-llgm/dl were enrolled in the study. Total of 70 women were randomly allocated to receive 200mg oral dose of ferrous fumarate daily and 400mg of ferrous fumarate weekly. Hemoglobin and ferritin level were estimated at baseline and after 8 weeks of iron supplementation. Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was performed to compare the mean
hemoglobin and ferritin level between the two groups at the end of study using baseline
haemoglobin, ferritin, age, race, parity, period of gestation, income, and education as co-variates. A total of seventy mildly anemic women were recruited. Thirty five were assigned to daily group and another thirty five women were assigned to weekly group. There were no significant different in demographic and laboratory characteristic between the groups at the beginning of study. At the end of eight weeks supplementation there was no significant
difference in the hemoglobin and ferritin values between the two groups. The supplementation of mild anemic pregnant women with 200 mg ferrous
fumarate daily was as effective as weekly iron supplementation of 400 mg ferrous fumarate in
terms of hemoglobin and ferritin response under conditions resembling the routine antenatal

Clinical psychiatry teaching and learning goes virtual / Nurul Azreen Hashim, Nor Jannah Nasution Raduan & Salmi Razali
COVID-19 crisis has caused severe disruption to teaching and learning activities. One of the recommended steps to prevent further spread of the illness is by physical distancing practice. Therefore, the current model of teaching and learning in psychiatry posting for medical undergraduates in Year 4 and Year 5 need to be enhanced by integrating virtual learning with traditional face-to-face methods. The ordinary bedside teaching and interview techniques were mostly converted into role plays, simulated patients, and recorded interview sessions with real patients via video conferences. Only a few learning sessions with patients were carried in-person, and adherence to strict protocols is compulsory. Case presentations and seminars were conducted via online platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Google Meet and Skype. Logbook assessments and end posting evaluations were done through Google Form and viva voce through video conferences. Feedback from students was collected using Google Forms. Overall, students' responses had been positive regarding this new approach in psychiatry teaching and learning. In conclusion, this COVID-19 crisis has unfolded the potential of collaborative pedagogical practice to a virtual teaching and learning environment in psychiatry

Developing a framework for halal compliance: the case of poultry industry in Malaysia
This research aims to develop a framework for halal compliance in poultry processing industry. Halal status of poultry product is a major concern of most Malaysians in particular Muslim community. However, determination of halal status of poultry product involves a complex process which takes place in the industry. Many parties are believed to perform certain roles and responsibility in ensuring halal practices are strictly adhered to, thus it confirms the halal status of the product. With the motivation to understand how industry strictly conforms to the halal practices, this study will initially provide a review of the regulatory system that governs poultry activities. This will give insight on the external control available in dictating what should and shouldn’t be practiced in the industry, and what will be the legal consequence if these dictates are violated. Researcher believes that a comprehensive halal control system in the industry constitutes multiple actors or different parties, function in an integrated ways along with the formal regulatory system. With that in mind, this study will then, explore what constitutes that comprehensive halal control system, how does it functions, what are the determinants and impediments of its effectiveness. Economists usually view that any economic agent is always rational in their choice of action, including decision to follow or disregard certain rules and standards. Following this theory of rational choice, researcher will further examine what factors influence the decision to adhere (violate) halal practices among those actors directly involved in the production process in poultry processing industry. The findings of this investigation will then be meaningful for researcher to suggest a framework of halal compliance in general, and halal compliance in poultry processing industry in particular
Developing a halal compliance behavioural framework: case of the Malaysian poultry firms
Halal industry is the fastest growing global business across the world, as such, food companies are expected to enhance their production processes to comply with halal standards and be subjected to monitoring and control by the respective halal authority, either private or public authority. In food economics, literature shows that probability of food risks which are caused by malpractice or non-compliance increases with the profit that can be earned through opportunistic behaviour. Although halal industry is highly regulated and routinely inspected, little is known about compliance behaviour amongst food producers. In this study, a framework of halal compliance is developed based upon the basic theory of crime deterrent, legitimacy, morality and market forces. Using the sample of Malaysian poultry processing firms, the study determines which of the regulatory, morality and market-based factors are most influential in determining their compliance attitude
