    No full text
This research aims to devise a statistically sound method for evaluating the efficacy of green development in the mining industry across various Chinese regions while keeping environmental challenges and ecological conservation in view to identify potential challenges and opportunities for implementing green growth initiatives in the mining industry. A three-stage network structure is utilized for evaluation. By employing a dynamic network framework utilizing the Slacks-Based Measure (SBM) method, the research explores the progress of green development in the mining sector across 21 Chinese regions from 2005 to 2022. The Malmquist index examines the changing trends and internal efficiency of green development in mining. The outcomes suggest that productivity levels decreased initially in most provinces before improving over time. The efficiency of the overall process is closely linked to the enhancement of ecological efficiency, which is a direct outcome of adopting sustainable mining practices. Disparities in the pace and extent of environmentally friendly economic development are evident among provinces, with some experiencing annual development rates exceeding 25 %. Eastern regions like Hubei, Fujian, and Shandong show promising trends and opportunities. However, challenges persist in the Northeast and Xinjiang provinces, where inefficiencies may be recognized in several sub-processes

ECG Arrhythmia classification using Deep Convolution Neural Networks in Transfer Learning

    No full text
Electrocardiogram (ECG) is a health monitoring test which assists clinicians to detect abnormal cardiac activity based on heart’s electrical activity. Early classification of ECG signals is important towards the possible treatment measures for the patients. In principle ECG is a time series signal as a result of heart’s electrical activity. Various methods have been devised to apply Machine learning algorithms for the classification of these time series signals. These methods require feature extraction which in turn pose problems such as inconsistency in the extracted features as well as variability found in the ECG features. Deep learning methods such as algorithms based on Convolution Neural Networks (CNN) can be used to avoid manual crafting of features from ECG signals. Due to the large amount of ECG data and the complexity of CNNs, GPU processing is often required in order to train and test the models quickly. Google Colab provides a free tier with limited memory space for implementing complex and deep neural networks. Also, already trained network on some other data can be used to learn common features for new data and modified to produce desired results. Among many, Res-Net-50 and VGG-16 are well-known models being used for transfer learning. In this project study ECG data is acquired from MIT-BIH Arrhythmia database. Using wave form database (wfdb) library in Python ECG signals were studied and observations were made for different characteristics and data variations. QRS detection was performed by locating the R peaks in ECG strips based on the annotation files for individual records. Segmented one dimensional data was converted to images for deep neural network training via CNN. Multi-layer CNN, ResNet-50 and VGG-16 were used for deep convolution and transfer learning and the computing was performed in Google Colab environment. Accuracies of 83 % via ResNet-50 and 99 % via VGG-16 were achieved using two dimensional ECG data. Higher accuracy with VGG-16 proves that Transfer learning can be applied for ECG arrhythmia classification

    Intermittent asynchronous peripheral operations

    No full text
Energy harvesting enables battery-less sensing applications, but causes executions to become intermittent as a result of erratic energy provisioning. Intermittent executions pose challenges to peripheral consistency that threaten to leave peripheral-bound workloads in failed states or to impede forward progress of programs. Intermittent synchronous peripheral operations are supported in existing literature for specific kinds of peripherals. Asynchronous peripheral operations enable reactive concurrency in application implementations, which increases reactivity and improves energy consumption, but lack dedicated support in intermittent settings. We present Karma, the first general abstraction and system design to support both synchronous and asynchronous operations in an intermittent setting. Karma employs a novel combination of pe- ripheral roll-forward and computation roll-back to a rendezvous point guaranteeing consistency. It remains transparent to application programmers and peripheral driver, which favours portability. Our evaluation, based on three applications running on prototype hardware and using diverse energy sources, indicates that intermit- tent asynchronous peripheral support provided by Karma boosts data throughput by 83% compared to existing literature

    No full text
Rhododendron arboreum Smith. (Ericaceae), an evergreen small tree, is one of the 1000 species that belongs to genus Rhododendron distributed worldwide. In folk medicine, as various parts of this plant exhibit medicinal properties, it is used in the treatment of different ailments. The present study was designed to evaluate the potential anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive effects of methanolic extract of R. arboreum bark, followed by activity-guided fractionation of n-hexane, n-butanol, chloroform, ethyl acetate and aqueous fractions. The ethyl acetate fraction (200 mg/kg i.p.) showed the maximum analgesic effect (82%) in acetic acid-induced writhing, followed, to a less extent, by crude extract and chloroform fraction both at a dose of 200 mg/kg i.p. (65.09% and 67.89%, respectively). In carrageenan-induced mouse paw oedema, the crude extract and its related fractions displayed in a dose-dependent manner (50-200 mg/kg i.p.) an anti-inflammatory activity for all time-courses (1-5 hrs). For the active extract/fractions (200 mg/kg i.p.), the maximum effect was observed 5 h after carrageenan injection. These evidences were also supported by in vitro lipoxygenase inhibitory properties. In conclusion, R. arboreum crude methanolic extract and its fractions exhibited anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive effects. For these reasons, this plant could be a promising source of new compounds for the management of pain and inflammatory diseases
