    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Penciptaan ini berdasar pada pijkan ungkapan ekspresi sebagai pola dasar kreasi dengan mengandalkan bentuk dan warna dari objek melalui pertimbangan estetis atas dasar ide kreatif dan kemampuan tekhnis sehingga hasil dari karya fotografi ini bukan sekedar bentuk dokumentatif melainkan sudah menapak pada bentuk penghadiran sebuah karya seni fotografi pada tataran kreatif estetis.

    Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    “Eighteen of Wheels of Steel in Art Photography.” This project is aimed at expressing the photographer’s feelings and deepest aesthetic emotions based on his experiences with the existence of the heavy duty vehicles. The basis of photography is an expression media through the aesthetic and artistic instinct according to the elements of art and composition such as color, line, balance, light and dark, rhythm, and angle.The concept of this creation of photographic works is Eighteen (18) Wheels of Steel in art photography. The objects here are focused on heavy duty vehicles i.e. 18 Wheels of Steel, which are also or called trailers. The objects taken as the photography resources are presented in the representations of realistic forms as well as abstract patterns which can embody the artistic language of emotive expression using a creative and aesthetic approach. These works of photography therefore take the forms of expression based on the photographer’s experiences with the existence of the heavy duty vehicles which are cruisers or huge, strong, powerful vehicles. The creation of these photographicworks was based on the expression as a basic pattern of creation relying on the colors and forms of the objects with aesthetic considerations based on the creative ideas and technical competences. So that the results from thisphotographic creation are not just forms of documentations but forms of art work presentations on a creative-aesthetic level as well.The approach is focused on the creative-aesthetic aspect which emphasized composition manipulations and photographic techniques such as the selection of objects, using the exact exposures, using the picture formats, and the angle ofshooting. These techniques of course were used based on photographic technical considerations which were oriented to possibilities in practical implemen- tations. In this respect, therefore, in order to fi t the works to the concepts, a thematic grouping of trailers was done, based on detail, refl ection, on moving, and silhouette. The works of photography, therefore, will offer new experiences in  perceiving trailers. In photographic view, trailers basically have distinct aestheticvalues as objects of photography which will enrich the spectators’ visual insight.     Fotografi merupakan suatu wahana ekspresi dalam seni karena dapa! sebagai wujud ungkapan emosi maupun refleksi realitas sebenarnya. Sebagai media berekspresi fotografi tidak hanya memiliki nilai dokumentatif semata melainkan sebagai ungkapan perasaan dan emosi estetik yang terdalam dari si pemotret. Dasar dari fotografi sebagi media ekpresi melalui naluri estetik, artisitik yang sesuai dengan unsur-unsur seni yaitu komposisi warna, garis, keseimbangan, gelap terang, irama dan sudut pandang. penciptaan karya fotografi ini adalah J 8 Wheels 0/ Sleel dalam fOlograji seni yang berupa ungkapan perasaan dan emosi estetik berdasarkan pengalaman akan keberadaan kendaraan kelas berat. Objek dalam hal ini difokuskan pada kendaraan 'kelas berat' yaitu J 8 Wheels of Sleel atau biasa disebut truk trailer. Objek yang menjadi sumber penciptaan foto ditampilkan lewat penggambaran bentuk realistik maupun dengan pola yang bersifat abstrak yang dapat menampung bahasa artistik ungkapan perasaan yang ingin diwujudkan melalui pendekatan kreatif estetis. Maka karya fotogr~fi seni ini berupa wujud ekspresi dari pengalaman-pengalaman yang di dapat akan eksistensi dari kendaraan jenis J 8 Wheels of Sleel yang merupakan sosok penjelajah, kendaraan ekstra besar, kuat, bertenaga. Penciptaan karya ini berdasar pada pijakan pengungkapan ekspresi sebagai pola dasar kreasi dengan mengandalkan bentuk dan warna dari objek melalui pertimbangan estetis atas dasar ide kreatif dan kemampuan teknis. Sehingga hasil dari penciptaan karya fotografi ini bukan sekedar bentuk dokumentatif melainkan sudah menapak pada bentuk penghadiran karya seni fotografi pada tataran kreatif estetis. Pendekatan yang digunakan difokuskan pada pendekatan kreatif estetis yang menekankan pada permainan komposisi dan teknis pemotretan seperti pemilihan objek, penggunaan pencahayaan yang tepat, penggunaan format gambar dengan format diagonal dan pengolahan sudut pandang. Teknik-teknik yang digunakan tentunya melalui berbagai pertimbangan teknis pemotretan yang lebih berorientasi pada kemungkinan-kemungkinan implementasi praktis. Maka dalam hal ini agar karya yang dihasilkan sesuai dengan konsep dilakukan suatu pengelompokan tematis yang terdapat pada objek truk trailer, yaitu berupa detail, refleksi, on moving dan silhouelle. Sehingga karya-karya fotografi tersebut dapat menawarkan suatu pengalaman baru dalam mempersepsi objek truk trailer. Secara keseluruhan truk-truk trailer ini dari sisi pandang fotografis memiliki nilai estetik tersendiri sebagai objek foto serta akan memperkaya wawasan pengalaman visual bagi yang melihatnya
