The impact of the newer knowledge of nutrition: nutrition science and nutrition policy, 1900-1939.
Ideas concerning relationships between diet and health in the UK are
traced from the 1904 Comittee on Physical Deterioration to the outbreak
of World War II. Archive material is used to describe the often
conflicting views of the Medical Research Council and the Ministry of
Health and Board of Education concerning the public health applications
of nutrition science. In particular, the work of the Ministry of
Health's first Advisory Comittee on Nutrition, which was appointed in
1931, is reviewed and evaluated. The debate among public healh
practitioners over the nature, cause and extent of the 'nutrition
problem' is documented and the role in this debate of official dietary
guidelines which appeared during the 1930s, is assessed.
The Impact of the Newer Knowledge of Nutrition on welfare feeding policy
Is evaluated in the context of the official promotion of milk feeding in
schools. In particular, Corry Mann's experimental evidence which was
used to endorse this policy, is reconsidered, and it is shown that the
NRC view that the trial was proof of the presence in milk of a "growth
factor" which produced preferential growth efficiency in adequately fed
children , was in error. From a re-evaluation of the evidence it is
suggested that the experiment merely recorded catch-up growth in a group
of poorly nourished children. The view that there existed an extensive
nutritional problem due to poor quality diets is examined and
challenged.
Both dietary survey data and anthropometric evidence are used to present
the case that there was throughout the period studied a widespread
problem of underfeeding among the poor and that intervention strategies
based on the Newer Knowledge were not an appropriate method of dealing
with this problem. This casts doubts on the widely held view that there
was a need for nutrition education and suggests that the problem was one of poverty rather than Ignorance. Disaggregated anthropometric data
located by the author are analysed according to NCHS standards to assess
the prevalence of underfeeding. Significantly higher prevalences of
stunting than low weight-for-age exist in all data sets; this phenomenon
is considered in detail and low weight-for-age is proposed as the
preferred index of malnutrition in 20th Century historical studies.
Attention is drawn to the relevance of these studies for the current
nutrition and public health debate
Analisis Pengurangan Kadar Minyak Menggunakan Alat Spinner yang Ergonomis
A private catering company almost every day serves processed fried food every morning, afternoon and evening. However, this often gets complaints from customers such as an itchy throat and fear of high cholesterol. The Spinner Pulling Oil tool is an automatic oil slicer that utilizes centrifugal force and is a solution to this problem. The purpose of this study was to determine what percentage of the ability of an ergonomic spinner tool can reduce oil content in food processing and to determine the time efficiency for the use of a spinner in draining processed fried food. The research methodology used is quantitative and qualitative where the types of fried foods that were tested were bakwan, fried onions and fried tempeh. From the research that has been done, it is found that the Spinner tool can reduce the oil content contained in fried food by 30% for Bakwan, 38% for Tempe and 45% for fried onions. This ergonomic Spinner provides up to 100% time efficiency for all types of food studie
Crime and imprisonment in South Africa with particular reference to prison labour
In this thesis, which records research into prisoner employment practices in various countries and makes certain recommendations for the development of correctional treatment in South Africa, the author has started from the premise that, justifiably or not, imprisonment as a major penal sanction will be with us for the foreseeable future. Furthermore, it is probable that the average length of time being served by prisoners will increase as greater use is made of non-custodial methods of treatment. The treatment of juvenile offenders has been deliberately excluded throughout. Assuming that the aim of imprisonment is to reform/rehabilitate offenders, in addition to keeping them in safe custody, then everything practicable should be done to enhance the possibility of achieving this goal

</jats:p
he consequences of imbalance in Juan de Flores’ Grisel y Mirabella
Juan de Flores’ roamance Grises y Mirabella (1945) contains sharps divisions between men and women that are portrayed through Justice and Mercy, and separation between the sexes. The author is careful to describe the division by constantly maintaining a distance between men and women both in private and public affairs. This separation leads to violence and chaos at the end of the narration despite a model of harmony and love demonstrated by the young Grisel and Mirabella. Through the portrayal of such separation and violence the author not only points out that society suffers when ruled only by masculine qualities but also advocates a balanced society in which the best values of both men and women may rule

Constructing a global polity: theory, discourse and governance
What is a 'global polity' and can it be squared with the continued strength of nation-states?
This book argues that our current understanding of globalization makes it impossible to grasp some crucial changes in world politics. Drawing innovatively on both Foucault and Waltz Constructing a Global Polity reframes the debate about global politics by redefining the term 'polity' as a new model of political structure. Unlike hierarchy and anarchy, polity draws attention to how new objects of governance such as the global economy or climate affect the structure of world politics.
Through this new lens the author examines the construction of a global polity in the controversy that followed the dramatic 'anti-globalization' protests at global elite gatherings. The findings challenge the standard typology of positions in the globalization debate and suggest that, even while states remain central, the logic of world politics may be shifting in more subtle ways
PERKEMBANGAN TANK JERMAN DALAM MENENTUKAN STRATEGI PERANG JERMAN PADA PERANG DUNIA 2 TAHUN 1934-1945
The purpose of this research is (1) the development of German tank technology before the Second World War in 1934-1939; (2) The development of German tank technology during the Second World War in 1939-1945; and (3) The effect of advances in tank technology on Germany's war strategy in the Second World War. The research method used is the Kuntowijoyo model. The first is the choice of topic where there are several things that the author feels as a lesson to describe the war situation at that time. besides that, the author is also interested in discussing because he likes things that smell like military history. The second is the collection of sources carried out by the author to support the arguments presented by using primary and secondary sources obtained on the internet. Third, verification or source criticism is carried out to determine the validity of the data obtained. Fourth is the interpretation or interpretation made by the author after the source criticism is carried out using the author's own view. Finally, writing or hysteriography is the end of this research method, namely writing down the results of historical research in a coherent manner based on the results obtained. The results of the research, the re-establishment of the German Armed Forces or Wehrmacht became a way for the development of Panzer technology initiated by Guderian and Hitler's ambition to resurrect the Third Reich. Panzer became the key to the initial victory of Germany in carrying out its lightning war tactics or Blitzkrieg as an answer to the prolonged war. Keywords : Panzer, Blitzkrieg, Wehrmach
How to Talk so that Doctors will Listen
Doctors interrupt patients after an average of eleven seconds, placing significant restraint on doctor/patient communications. This lack of communication, combined with medical bias, leads to underdiagnosis and undertreatment of groups such as women, racial minorities, obese people, and those with physical and mental disabilities. The article is framed by the case of Brian Sinclair, an Indigenous Canadian who died of an easily treatable condition after being ignored at a Winnipeg E.R. Drawing on the limited studies in medical rhetoric and health communications, the author examines whether patients can do anything to avoid being similarly ignored by medical professionals. The author theorizes that establishing an educated ethos, or bringing a companion who processes such an ethos, may positively impact doctors’ willingness to listen. The article also explores the possible influence of Burkean rhetorical identification in doctor/patient communications. Patients feel they receive better treatment from doctors of their own ethnicity, suggesting that the extent doctors identify with patients’ ethnicity may affect communications. However the same does not hold true for gender and age: female doctors and younger doctors tend to listen to all patients more attentively than older, male doctors do, regardless of the patient’s gender or age
