From Albania to Brazil: Ismail Kadaré's Broken april and its filmic adaptation, Walter Salles' Abril despedaçado
No full textDissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e Expressão, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras/Inglês e Literatura Correspondente, Florianópolis, 2007The aim of the present study is to analyse how issues of Albanian national identity are portrayed in Ismail Kadaré's novel Broken April (Prilli i Thyer), and how such features have been appropriated and translated onto the screen into a Northeastern Brazilian context. I depart from the premise that, even though Brazilian elements are indeed shown in the film, the non existence of the Kanun in Brazil, and the use of narrative techniques different from the ones employed in the novel render the story of the blood feuds in the film more universal than the genuinely Albanian reality depicted in the novel. In sum, the appropriation transcends the Albanian reality into a universal context, showing, at the same time, elements which are typical of the Brazilian culture.O objetivo do presente estudo é analisar como questões sobre a identidade nacional Albanesa são retratadas no romance Abril Despedaçado (Prilli i Thyer), de Ismail Kadaré, e como tais questões foram apropriadas e traduzidas para a tela num contexto Nordestino-Brasileiro. O estudo parte do princípio que, embora elementos tipicamente Brasileiros sejam mostrados no filme, a não existência do Kanun no Brasil, e o uso de técnicas narrativas diferentes das empregadas no romance ajudam a deixar a história das brigas de família no filme com um aspecto mais universal do que a realidade genuinamente Albanesa representada na romance. Em suma, a apropriação transcende a realidade Albanesa para um contexto mais universal, sem deixar de mostrar também elementos típicos da cultura Brasileira

No full textThe natural rubber plantation sector is labour intensive. The employee turnover problem has affected the business performance of Hamid Sawmill Sendirian Berhad in Johor,
Malaysia. The purpose of this applied business research is to investigate the influences of engaging leadership, working conditions, and reward and recognition on employee
engagement to help the company reduce employee turnover. Data were gathered from 50 workers of the company through a survey approach using a self-administered questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed using multiple regression analysis. The proposed regression model integrates a framework that has previously been independently considered in employee engagement literature. The findings highlight that
all input variables: engaging leadership, working conditions, and reward and recognition had significant positive influences on employee engagement. The most influential factors of employee engagement are reward and recognition. The present study helps the top management to improve employee engagement. The emphasis on employee engagement
factors will help the company formulating effective organizational policies and practices to reduce its employee turnover. The findings also provide the company ideas to develop a competitive advantage in the rubber plantation industry. This research could be a reference for other related companies, and it also directly contributes to the body of

Bhd. in signing Memorandum of Understanding on 1st April 2021. Both stakeholders were represented by Prof. Ts. Dr Salmiah Kasolang, Rector, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Cawangan Pulau Pinang and Datuk Saat Esa, Chairman, Jambatan Kedua Sdn. Bhd. This event was held at Banquet Hall, Hotel UiTM Cawangan Pulau Pinang, Kampus Permatang Pauh. These collaborations are involved in academic publication, research and development, knowledge transfer programs, professional training, student development, and corporate and university social responsibilities. The Memorandum of Understanding was initiated by Dr Hj Anas Ibrahim, Dr Siti Hafizan Hassan and Ts. Dr Mohd Samsudin Abdul Hamid. In almost one year, some activities were done that involved both parties in fulfilling the MoU. The activities are collaboration as industrial supervisor for 4 final year project students in charge by Ts. Nur Hajar Ismail Mat Zin and Ts. Dr Mohd Samsudin Abdul Hamid, industrial training for EC221 students from 16th August to 8th October 2021, knowledge transfer program by Ts. No full text“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

A contemporary theory of social entrepreneurship for sustainable wealth creation
No full textThis book contains nine chapters. In Chapter One, Suhaimi Mhd Sarif and Yusof Ismail provide an introduction to the topic of contemporary theory of social entrepreneurship. As for Chapter Two, Mohd Ali Bahari and Suhaimi Mhd Sarif proposed that the historical development of social entrepreneurship is not entirely different from the development of entrepreneurship in the study of the firm. In Chapter Three, Mohd Ali Bahari and Suhaimi Mhd Sarif portrayed the social entrepreneurship development in Malaysia.
Chapters Four and Five are contributed by the same team of authors. In Chapter Four, Zarinah Hamid and Zhang Hengchao discussed the economic theories on social entrepreneurship. In Chapter Five, the same authors Zarinah Hamid and Zhang Hengchao discussed the role of social entrepreneurship in the modern economic system.
In Chapter Six, Suhaimi Mhd Sarif, Abdullah Sarwar and SM Ferdous Azam elaborated on the role of social entrepreneurship in building societal values in Malaysia. Abdullah Sarwar and Suhaimi Mhd Sarif argued through Chapter Seven that social entrepreneurship research accommodates the use of both qualitative and quantitative methods. As if responding to the research methods deliberated in the preceding chapter, Yusof Ismail and Afiqah Abdul Rahman applied three research instruments in their Chapter Eight to ascertain the level of awareness of social entrepreneurship among a small sample. Lastly, in the final chapter, Chapter Nine, Nur Arfifah Abdul Sabian & Yusof Ismail discussed the fundamental thrust on Islamic social entrepreneurship.
As an edited book, ours contains a fairly good mixture of inter-related topics that converge on business orientation of social imperative. It presents religious and societal values in broad sense in social entrepreneurship setting
