För denna dokumentära studie valde skribenten ut 5 vetenskapliga artiklar, samlats in under våren 2020.
Resultatet delades in i 3 huvudkategorier. The purpose of this study is to investigate what prejudices exist about depression and anxiety. There are still many misconceptions about mental illness today. Through this study, the author aimed to increase understanding of depression and to be able to reduce these misconceptions by informing the reader about common prejudices that exist around depression and anxiety.
For this study, the author selected 5 scientific articles, which were collected in the spring of 2020. The articles have been analyzed using a contetanalysis. The question the author chose to include was: What are the most common prejudices about depression and anxiety? As a theoretical starting point, the writer has chosen to use Goffman's theory (2011) about stigma.
For this documentary study, the author has selected 5 scientific articles, which the author collected in the spring of 2020. The articles have been analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Questions that the author has chosen to include in the study are: What are the most common prejudices about depression and anxiety? How can you treat a person with depression or anxiety in a respectful way? As a theoretical starting point, the writer has chosen to use Erving Goffman's theory (2011) about stigma.
The result was divided into 3 main categories. These main categories were: Signs of weakness, Own fault and No help needed. The results of this study show that certain socio-demographic factors seem to be associated with attitudes towards depression and seeking help. Male gender, older age and low level of education were related to more negative attitudes towards mental illness and seeking help. In contrast the results indicated that a longer schooling and a positive school climate was related to less negative attitudes towards mental illness and seeking help
