al-Rawiyat de Maha Hasan: métamorphose et réincarnation comme dernière tentative pour préserver la vie

    No full text
Al-Rawiyat (The Storytellers) is a metafictional novel written by Syrian author Maha Hasan in 2014. The text contains two intertwined levels: the first is the inner monologue of a woman who is writing a novel; the second is represented by the stories of the characters she creates and that become themselves storytellers. In this text Maha Hasan explores the art of storytelling through multiple stories and many female characters. Ḥasan’s storytellers often live in parallel and imaginary worlds, in a permanent state of metamorphosis and perpetual reincarnation. The stories they live and narrate represent their last attempt to preserve life in an inhuman time that changes at a spasmodic rhythm and generates simultaneous events with contradictory effects. This novel translates into fiction the rapid changes of the present period, which—as affirmed by Rosi Braidotti in her Metamorphoses—does not truncate the brutality of power relations, but at deeper view, intensifies them to their point of implosion

A new look at the pathogenesis of asthma

    No full text
Asthma is an inflammatory disorder of the conducting airways that has strong association with allergic sensitization. The disease is characterized by a polarized Th-2 (T-helper-2)-type T-cell response, but in general targeting this component of the disease with selective therapies has been disappointing and most therapy still relies on bronchodilators and corticosteroids rather than treating underlying disease mechanisms. With the disappointing outcomes of targeting individual Th-2 cytokines or manipulating T-cells, the time has come to re-evaluate the direction of research in this disease. A case is made that asthma has its origins in the airways themselves involving defective structural and functional behaviour of the epithelium in relation to environmental insults. Specifically, a defect in barrier function and an impaired innate immune response to viral infection may provide the substrate upon which allergic sensitization takes place. Once sensitized, the repeated allergen exposure will lead to disease persistence. These mechanisms could also be used to explain airway wall remodelling and the susceptibility of the asthmatic lung to exacerbations provoked by respiratory viruses, air pollution episodes and exposure to biologically active allergens. Variable activation of this epithelial-mesenchymal trophic unit could also lead to the emergence of different asthma phenotypes and a more targeted approach to the treatment of these. It also raises the possibility of developing treatments that increase the lung's resistance to the inhaled environment rather than concentrating all efforts on trying to suppress inflammation once it has become established.<br/

This study aims to review and discuss the Qard al-hasan in Islamic banks in Yemen. The study also discusses the challenges that face Qard al-hasan product. It follows series of approaches to achieve the objectives of the study. It uses a descriptive approach to study the element of the subject. It also uses the analytical approach to analyze annual financial and social responsibility reports that issued by the largest Islamic banks and compares them. T he comparative approach was also used when comparing between Islamic banks in granting Qard al-hasan amount. The study finds that Islamic banks can finance by Qard al-hasan. The study also finds the percentage of Qard al-hasan application is different from one bank to another. The study concludes that Qard al-hasan product did not include the social responsibility reports as Islamic social finance mode. Moreover, The Islamic banks in Yemen do not infinitive publish and special reports on the number of clients or the purpose of the financing of Qard al-hasan. The study concludes with a number of recommendations including the need to activate Qard al-hasan product, show it as socially responsible, and finance it by several sources. The study also recommends that the supervisory authorities to legislate policies and procedures related to the Qard al-hasan product with cooperation with Islamic banks and relevant authorities

Current progress in chimeric antigen receptor T cell therapy for glioblastoma multiforme

    No full text
Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is one of the deadliest brain tumors with an unfavorable prognosis and overall survival of approximately 20 months following diagnosis. The current treatment for GBM includes surgical resections and chemo- and radiotherapeutic modalities, which are not effective. CAR-T immunotherapy has been proven effective for CD19-positive blood malignancies, and the application of CAR-T cell therapy for solid tumors including GBM offers great hope for this aggressive tumor which has a limited response to current treatments. CAR-T technology depends on the use of patient-specific T cells genetically engineered to express specific tumor-associated antigens (TAAs). Interaction of CAR-T cells with tumor cells triggers the destruction/elimination of these cells by the induction of cytotoxicity and the release of different cytokines. Despite the great promise of CAR-T cell-based therapy several challenges exist. These include the heterogeneity of GBM cancer cells, aberrant various signaling pathways involved in tumor progression, antigen escape, the hostile inhibitory GBM microenvironment, T cell dysfunction, blood-brain barrier, and defective antigen presentation. All need to be addressed before full application at the clinical level can begin. Herein we provide a focused review of the rationale for the use of different types of CAR-T cells (including FcγRs), the different GBM-associated antigens, the challenges still facing CAR-T-based therapy, and means to overcome such challenges. Finally, we enumerate currently completed and ongoing clinical trials, highlighting the different ways such trials are designed to overcome specific problems. Exploitation of the full potential of CAR-T cell therapy for GBM depends on their solution.Scopu

Hence, the advantages and disadvantages of the methods of questionnaire and interview in the investigation of a scientific and social fact in educational researches are presented in detail. In our country, questionnaires and interviews, which are qualitative research methods, have recently began to be rarely used in educational researches; as a result, meticulous studies have come out. One other thing to be focused on in this study through a comparison between a questionnaire and an interview is also the advantages and disadvantages of these methods over each other. A large number of researches conducted through these methods in the field of education are cited here as examples. The use of each method with a different result in the same study in social sciences is of special importance in terms of the validity of the results obtained. This study is expected to guide or highlight the researches to be conducted in the field of social and educational sciences
