    E-scooter micro-mobility application for postal service: the case of turkey for energy, environment, and economy perspectives

    In this research, the advantages of the e-scooter tool used in the mail or package delivery process were discussed by considering the Turkish Post Office (PTT) data in the districts of Istanbul (Kadikoy, uskudar, Kartal, and Maltepe) in Turkey. The optimization Poisson regression model was utilized to deliver the maximum number of packages or mails with minimum cost and the shortest time in terms of energy consumption, cost, and environmental contribution. Statistical and optimization results of dependent and independent variables were calculated using numerical and categorical features of 100 e-scooter drivers. The Poisson regression analysis determined that the e-scooter driver\"s gender (p|0.05 < 0.199) and age (p|0.05 < 0.679) factors were not effective on the dependent variable. We analysed that the experience in the profession (tenure), the size of the area responsible, and environmental factors is effective in the e-scooter distribution activity. The number of packages delivered was 234 in a day, and the delivery cost per package was calculated as 0.51 TL (Turkish Lira) for the optimum values of the dependent variables. The findings show that the choice of e-scooter vehicle in the mail or package delivery process is beneficial in terms of time, cost, energy, and environmental contribution in districts with higher population density. As the most important result, the operation of e-scooter vehicles with electrical energy shows that it is environmentally friendly and has no CO2 emission. The fact that the distribution of packages or mail should now turn to micro-mobility is emerging with the advantages of e-scooter vehicles in the mail and package delivery. Finally, this analysis aims to provide a model for integrating e-scooters in package or mail delivery to local authorities, especially in densely populated areas

    Estimation of postal service delivery time and energy cost with e-scooter by machine learning algorithms

    © 2022 by the authors.This research aims to estimate the delivery time and energy cost of e-scooter vehicles for distributing mail or packages and to show the usage efficiency of e-scooter sharing services in postal service delivery in Turkey. The machine learning (ML) methods used to implement the prediction of delivery time and energy cost as output variables include random forest (RF), gradient boosting (GB), k-nearest neighbour (kNN), and neural network (NN) algorithms. Fifteen input variables under demographic, environmental, geographical, time, and meta-features are utilised in the ML algorithms. The correlation coefficient (R2) values of RF, GB, NN, and kNN algorithms were computed for delivery time as 0.816, 0.845, 0.821, and 0.786, respectively. The GB algorithm, which has a high R2 and the slightest margin of error, exhibited the best prediction performance for delivery time and energy cost. Regarding delivery time, the GB algorithm’s MSE, RMSE, and MAE values were calculated as 149.32, 12.22, and 6.08, respectively. The R2 values of RF, GB, NN, and kNN algorithms were computed for energy cost as 0.917, 0.953, 0.400, and 0.365, respectively. The MSE, RMSE, and MAE values of the GB algorithm were calculated as 0.001, 0.019, and 0.009, respectively. The average energy cost to complete a package or mail delivery process with e-scooter vehicles is calculated as 0.125 TL, and the required time is approximately computed as 11.21 min. The scientific innovation of the study shows that e-scooter delivery vehicles are better for the environment, cost, and energy than traditional delivery vehicles. At the same time, using e-scooters as the preferred way to deliver packages or mail has shown how well the delivery service works. Because of this, the results of this study will help in the development of ways to make the use of e-scooters in delivery service even more efficient

Yurdumuzun çeşitli yörelerinden alınan klinoptilolitler XRD, DTA ve TGA yöntemleri ile karakterize edilmiştir. Isıtmalı yığın yöntemi ile 2 N'lik Na+ ve Ca++ iyonik formları hazırlanmıştır. Numunelerin % nem içerikleri tayin edildikten sonra yapılan deneylerle ıslanma ısıları (J/g) tayin edilmiştir. Deneyler sonucu, eğer doğal halde kullanılacaksa yüksek ıslanma ısısı değeri sebebiyle en uygun zeolitin Gördes yöresine ait olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır. Ca++ modifiye formlar arasında da Gördes yöresinden alınan zeolit en yüksek ıslanma ısısı değerine sahiptir. Na+ formlar arasında ise Bigadiç yöresinden alınan zeolitin ıslanma ısısı daha iyi çıkmıştır. Zeolitin çeşitli sulu ortamdaki davranışını incelemek için çeşitli çözeltiler (1 N Na+,Ca++ ve 2 N Na+,Ca++) içine zeolit atılarak pH ölçümleri alınmıştır. Yapılan deneyler sonucu, zeolitin H+ alıcısı ve H+ vericisi olarak ikili davranış sergileyip, çözeltileri nötralleştirme eğiliminde olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır. Bütün deneylerde pH sonuçları üzerinde en etkili olan Gördes yöresine ait zeolitin aynı zamanda en hızlı etkiyi gösterdiği görülmüştür. Böylece doğal zeolitlerin buz çözücü olarak kullanılabileceği öngörülmüştür

    The taxonomic positions of soil isolates known as Streptomyces groups A, B and C were clarified. Comparative 16S rDNA sequence studies indicated that representatives of all three taxa formed distinct phyletic lines within the Streptomyces tree though the group A strains were shown to be related to Streptomyces griseus and associated validly described species. The taxonomic integrity of all three groups was highlighted by DNA:DNA relatedness and ribotype data though the group A strains encompassed a higher degree of genetic variation than the group B and C strains.     Effect of time delay and storage temperature on blood gas and acid-base values of bovine venous blood

    The aim of this study was to investigate possible changes in the gas composition and acid-base values of bovine venous blood samples stored at different temperatures (+4, 22 and 37 degreesC) for up to 48 h. Five healthy cattle were used in the study. A total of 15 blood samples collected from the animals were allocated into three groups, which were, respectively, then stored in a refrigerator adjusted to +4 degreesC (Group I, n = 5), at a room temperature of about 22 degreesC (Group II, n = 5) and in an incubator adjusted to 37 degreesC (Group 111; n = 5) for up to 48 It. Blood gas and acid-base values were analysed at 0 (baseline), 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 12, 24, 36 and 48 h of storage. A significant decrease (p < 0.001) was found, in the pH of the refrigerated blood after 5 h and its maximum decrease was recorded at 48 h as 0.04 unit. There were also significant alterations (p < 0.001) in the blood pH of the samples stored at room temperature and in the incubator after 2 and 3 h, respectively. The maximum mean alteration in pCO(2) value for Group I was -0.72 kPa during the assessment, while for groups II and III, maximum alterations in pCO(2) were detected as +2.68 and +4.16 kPa, respectively. Mean pO(2) values increased significantly (p < 0.001) for Group I after 24 It and for Group II after 6 h, while a significant decrease was recorded for Group III after 24 h (p < 0.001). Base excess (BE) and bicarbonate (HCO3) fractions decreased significantly for all the groups during the study, compared to their baseline values. In conclusion, acid-base values of the samples stored at 22 and +4 degreesC were found to be within normal range and could be used for clinical purposes for up to 12 and 48 h, respectively, although there were small statistically significant alterations.     The Influence of Pesticides on the Spore Viability, Toxin Stability and Larvicidal Activity of Bacillus sphaericus 2362 Strain

    In this study, 12 different commercial pesticides, in-cluding 5 fungicides, 5 herbicides, 1 aphicide and 1 acari-cide, were investigated for their effects on spore viability, toxin stability and larvicidal activity of a mosquito patho-genic B. sphaericus 2362 strain. Minimal inhibitory con-centrations (MICs) of each pesticide were determined after 48 h incubation of B. sphaericus 2362 strain. Ac-cording to MIC results, all pesticides showed various inhibitory effects on the growth of the test bacterium. Particularly, the pesticides which contain TCA, hymexa-zol, copper sulphate, hexythiazox, 2,4-D Amine, copper inhibited spore germination significantly and bacterial growth even at the lowest tested concentrations. Our re-sults indicated that various commercial pesticides in dif-ferent concentrations reduced the spore viability signifi-cantly and heat-resistant spore numbers of B. sphaericus 2362 strain. In general, the pesticides decreased the spore numbers 104-105-fold compared to initial ones. Further-more, it was observed that the larvicidal activity was completely lost when it was grown at the concentration of MIC values or higher. Indeed, SDS-PAGE analysis con-firmed that the binary toxin proteins, 41.9 kDa and 51.4 kDa, were lost at the MIC values and higher concentra-tions although parasporal crystals did not disappear in the much lower pesticide concentration

    Effect of Gramoxone((R)) herbicide on spore viability and larvicidal activity of Bacillus sphaericus 2362 and 1593 strains

    Spore viability and larvacidal activity of B. sphaericus 2362 and 1593 strains were monitored in media containing Gramaxone(R) herbicide. Minimal Inhibitory Concentrations (MICs) of the herbicide were determined for each of the mosquito pathogenic strains. Addition of paraquat into the media suppressed the spore germination after 24 and 48 h, but no influence was observed on parasporal inclusions containing insecticidal toxin proteins. SDS-PAGE analysis confirmed the presence of the so-called binary toxin comprising two proteins that are deposited in parasporal crystals treated with the herbicide. Moreover, the number of heat-resistant spores and total cell numbers of test strains were reduced drastically when test strains were grown in media containing 50, 100 and 200 mg ml(-1) of paraquat. In contrast, there were no differences between heat-resistant spore counts of both strains when grown under diet concentrations of less than 50 mg ml-1. This study revealed that B. sphaericus 2362 strain has a higher mosquito larvacidal activity than 1593 strain in the presence of paraquat in the media. Thus, the use of Gramaxone(R) herbicide can have harmful effects on mosquitocidal biological control agents
