Odorico Mendes, o manuscrito da Ilíada e diversas facetas da atividade tradutória

O prólogo anexado à tradução permaneceu por mais de cem anos desconhecido. Transcrito e investigado, o texto comporta informações novas. Na perspectiva da História da Tradução e dos Estudos Culturais, o objetivo desta dissertação é discutir como Odorico Mendes lidou com a atividade tradutória em meados do século XIX, especialmente em sua relação com a tradução da Ilíada. Nomes como D. Pedro II, Caetano Lopes de Moura, Anne Dacier e Alexander Pope são evocados nas discussões. As reflexões desse estudo elucidam a relevância da atividade tradutória de Odorico Mendes na história dos estudos tradutológicos, literários e culturais.This piece of research is a result of finding the manuscript of the translation of the Iliad, by Manuel Odorico Mendes (1799-1964), identified in a field work at the Archives of the Imperial Museum, in Petrópolis, RJ, Brazil. The foreword attached to the translation remained unidentified for over 100 years. Once transcribed and analyzed, it reveals new information. Based on the History of Translation and Cultural Studies, the goal of this dissertation is to discuss how Odorico Mendes dealt with the translation activity in the middle of the nineteenth century especially in its relationship with the translation of the Iliad. Important names, like D. Pedro II, Caetano Lopes de Moura, Anne Dacier and Alexander Pope are mentioned in these discussions. No full textDissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e Expressão, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Literatura, Florianópolis, 2009.A presente pesquisa tem como objetivo mostrar em que medida o autor Mendes Fradique, em sua obra Grammatica portugueza pelo methodo confuso, transita livremente pelo cômico, pelo nonsense e pelo experimentalismo, revelando significativa independência em relação aos movimentos literários organizados, além de antecipar formas de expressão literária que se tornariam comuns décadas após o lançamento do seu método confuso. Concomitantemente, procuraremos mostrar que a obra em questão é essencialmente crítica, tendo como pano de fundo a transgressão dos cânones literários e da própria gramática, além de problematizar as relações de poder subjacentes à linguagem. A partir da análise dessas questões, tentaremos conferir maior importância à obra de Mendes Fradique no contexto literário. Além disso, esta pesquisa poderá servir para ampliar os estudos nessa área do humor, bem como resgatar contribuições valiosas e inovadoras de um autor pouco (re)conhecido, cuja produção poderia ter chegado até nossos dias de forma menos obscura e marginal.The present research aims at showing to what extent the author Mendes Fradique, in his work called Grammatica portugueza pelo methodo confuso, strolls freely by humor, nonsense and experimentalism, revealing a significant independence in relation to the organized literary movements, besides anticipating forms of literary expression which would become common decades after the release of his confused method. Simultaneously, we will try to show that the work in analysis is essentially critical, having as its background the transgression of the literary canons and the grammar itself, besides questioning the power relations present in language. From the analysis of these problems, we will try to confer more importance to Fradiques work within the literary context. Moreover, this research may be useful to widen the studies in the area of humor, as well as to recover important and innovative contributions of a lesser known author, whose production could have arrived to the present days in a less obscure and marginal way

No full textTaking up the roles that Salman Rushdie himself has assumed as a cultural broker, gatekeeper, and mediator in various spheres of public production, Ana Cristina Mendes situates his work in terms of the contemporary production, circulation, and consumption of postcolonial texts within the workings of the cultural industries. Mendes pays particular attention to Rushdie as a public performer across various creative platforms, not only as a novelist and short story writer, but also as a public intellectual, reviewer, and film critic. Mendes argues that how a postcolonial author becomes personally and professionally enmeshed in the dealings of the cultural industries is of particular relevance at a time when the market is strictly regulated by a few multinational corporations. She contends that marginality should not be construed exclusively as a basis for understanding Rushdie’s work, since a critical grounding in marginality will predictably involve a reproduction of the traditional postcolonial binaries of oppressor/oppressed and colonizer/colonized that the writer subverts. Rather, she seeks to expand existing interpretations of Rushdie’s work, itineraries, and frameworks in order to take into account the actual conditions of postcolonial cultural production and circulation within a marketplace that is global in both orientation and effects.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Seguendo un rigoroso approccio cronologico il volume guida il lettore alla comprensione dell'opera architettonica di Mendes da Rocha in relazione alle complesse vicende della storia brasiliana del secondo dopoguerra, e in particolare al golpe dal quale è dipesa l'espulsione dell'architetto dall'università per un decennio e la limitazione della sua attività professionale per un ventennio.
Il volume si pone come obiettivo di individuare e valorizzare, in ciascuna delle fasi dello sviluppo
dell’opera dell’architetto brasiliano, le realizzazioni di particolare rilevanza, tali da consentire
un’adeguata discussione dei grandi temi intorno a cui essa ruota. Se alcuni temi sono circoscritti a
periodi piuttosto limitati, altri tuttavia ne percorrono l’intero sviluppo come un filo rosso che si dipana da ormai mezzo secolo. Questi temi, nella loro persistenza e nelle loro variazioni, costituiscono
l’ossatura del libro. La seconda parte del volume è interamente dedicata ad un’accurata analisi dei progetti e delle opere che, in virtù della complessità strutturale e spaziale che li caratterizza – richiedono una lettura ampia e articolata. La seconda parte, pertanto, è concepita per essere letta a compendio della prima: come una serie di approfondimenti su singoli progetti che la prima parte del libro è invece chiamata a connettere e a stagliare su di uno sfondo storico e culturale.
