The magnon BEC observation by switch off method

    No full text
The Bose–Einstein condensation (BEC) corresponds to the formation of a collective quantum state in which macroscopic number of particles is governed by a single wave function. The magnon BEC forms by excited non-equilibrium magnons and manifests itself by coherent precession of magnetization even in an inhomogeneous magnetic field. The magnon BEC is very similar to an atomic BEC, but the potential of the interaction between magnons may variate very significantly. The superfluid phases of 3He are the best antiferromagnetic system for investigations of magnon BEC and spin superfluidity. The 6 different states of magon BEC were observed in 3He. Recently magnon BEC was observed in antiferromagnets with Suhl–Nakamura interaction and ferrites. Here we review for the first time the switch off NMR method, when magnon BEC forms during a long radiofrequency pulse. The new experimental results are discussed. The author thanks to a discussions with my colleges in the laboratory of non-linear magnetic resonance and spin superfluidity of Kazan Federal University and in Ultra Low Temperature group of the Institute Neel, Grenoble, France. Strong Orientational Effect of Stretched Aerogel on the 3He Order Parameter

International audienceDeformation of aerogel strongly modifies the orientation of the order parameter of superfluid 3He confined in aerogel. We used a radial squeezing of aerogel to keep the orbital angular momentum of the 3He Cooper pairs in the plane perpendicular to the magnetic field. We did not find strong evidence for a polar phase, with a nodal line along the equator of the Fermi surface, predicted to occur at large radial squeezing. Instead we observed 3He-A with a clear experimental evidence of the destruction of the longrange order by random anisotropy--the Larkin-Imry-Ma effect. In 3He-B we observed and identified new modes of NMR, which are impossible to obtain in bulk 3He-B. One of these modes is characterized by a repulsive interaction between magnons, which is suitable for the magnon Bose-Einstein condensation

Best practices of Russia in extracting ree from fertilizer waste

    No full text
Rare earth elements (REE) are as well classified as EU critical metals. The Finnish apatite minerals, industrially utilized for manufacturing phosphate fertilizers represent a potential secondary source of REE. In the current fertilizer manufacturing process even 80% of the REE will end up in the phosphogypsum (PG) side product, which then holds 0.15–0.5 % of REE. So far economical means of recovering REE from apatite or PG have not been found. Novel active extraction or ion exchange methods have been recently examined by UrFU. Bolometric calibration of a superfluid 3He detector for Dark Matter search: direct measurement of the scintillated energy fraction for neutron, electron and muon events

    No full text
International audienceWe report on the calibration of a superfluid 3He bolometer developed for the search of non-baryonic Dark Matter. Precise thermometry is achieved by the direct measurement of thermal excitations using Vibrating Wire Resonators (VWRs). The heating pulses for calibration were produced by the direct quantum process of quasiparticle generation by other VWRs present. The bolometric calibration factor is Author manuscript, published in "Nuclear Instr. and Methods in Physics Research, A 574 (2007) 264" analyzed as a function of temperature and excitation level of the sensing VWR. The calibration is compared to bolometric measurements of the nuclear neutron capture reaction and heat depositions by cosmic muons and low energy electrons. The comparison allows a quantitative estimation of the ultra-violet scintillation rate of irradiated helium, demonstrating the possibility of efficient electron recoil event rejection
