Get PDFWe are offering you a new issue of The Ignatianum Philosophical Yearbook. It is almost entirely devoted to Mikołaj Zebrzydowski. The state of research on him is outlined in the first article by Elżbieta E. Wróbel and Tomasz Graff. In a separate article, the latter author also presents issues related to the development of Florian Zebrzydowski’s estate as his political importance grew at the court of King Sigismund Augustus. Special emphasis was placed on the case study method here. The author analyzes Zebrzydowski’s acquisition of property in Radocza near Wadowice, showing the prospect of the need for further research into the growth of the estate of Florian Zebrzydowski and his family. The article concludes with an appendix, including an edition in Latin and a Polish translation of the document, in which “Sigismund Augustus grants Florian Zebrzydowski the right to build a dam on the Skawa River and to run water from there through a moat across the area of the Wadowice estate to build fish ponds in the Radocza estate.

No full textIn the first part of the text entitled Linguistic methods of expressing emotions. Tomasz Raczek about journalist, the author presents Tomasz Raczek’s writing, in particular his feature articles, where the columnist refers to the contemporary social life from the perspective of film and television criticism. In the subsequent parts of the text, the author describes selected components of the history of feature articles and presents some definitions of a feature article, and then focuses on the linguistic aspects of a subjective way of expressing the emotions and feelings accompanying the description of mass media personalities. The author pays a special attention to the techniques used by Raczek, for example putting things very close together in order to show a contrast, using metaphors and anglicisms to describe media personalities. In the last part of the text, the author juxtaposes the previously described techniques of the columnist, sums up the discussions on the linguistic methods of expressing emotions and feelings in Tomasz Raczek’s feature articles

No full textThe author analyses the legal action of the Polish delegation against the Satira by Dominican friar John Falkenberg, which appeared at the Council of Constance (1414–1418). In his work, Falkenberg called for the extermination of the Polish nation as well as the king Wladyslaw Jagiello. He announced that those who would achieve this aim would attain salvation. The Polish delegation, especially Paul Włodkowic and archbishop Nicolas Trąba, made efforts aimed at the recognition of the Dominican’s work as heretical. Falkenberg was arrested and his work was condemned by the Commission of Faith, however it was not recognized as heretical. The new pope Martin V, in turn, did not want the verdict of the commission to become a resolution of the Council. In response, Poles, despite the threat of anathema, at the last session of the Council, appealed against the Satira to the next council, which undermined the authority of the pope. In the article, the author shows the factors which prevented Poles from achieving complete success in the Falkenberg case. He addresses the question whether the determination of the Polish envoys in the defence of honour of their ruler and state in the final days of the council brought positive results in the years after the council. The author gives consideration to the question whether the actions of Polish diplomacy against ‘Satira’ combined with other steps on the international forum contributed to a certain extent to creating Jagiello’s image as the last apostle of the barbarian Europe

The text is a presentation and analysis of four, conceptual and funeral orations, which were written by: Stanisław Szałapski SJ, Bartłomiej Sylwiusz SJ, Marek Korona and Mikołaj Ławrynowicz. The first part of the article is a presentation of conceptual structure of orations and as well as analysis of titles and role of mottos from Bible. The second part of article describes Tomasz Zamoyski’s glowing effigy. Author uses rhetorical scheme laudatio personae, which was constructed from circumstances inner (family stock, ancestors, birth, education, attributes of body and soul, actions) and external (family, friends, descendants, time of his life, types of death). Orators built the glowing effigy of Tomasz Zamoyski, and his life presents a humanistic model of human and citizen
The Kraśnik monastery in Jan Długosz’s works
No full textThe author analyzes the information about Kraśnik and the monastery in Kraśnik included in Długosz's works, with particular emphasis on Liber Beneficiorum. Długosz's source is certainly a valuable supplement to other manuscripts related to the original endowment of the monastery of the Canons Regular of Lateran, who came to Kraśnik from Kazimierz (near Cracow), from the Corpus Christi Monastery. Długosz, however, made smaller and larger mistakes, so his source should be carefully verified. The author also gives a Polish translation of the most important fragments of Liber Beneficiorum about the Kraśnik monastery. The Kraśnik monastery played an important part in Polish culture, not only because of its book collection but also because of the special significance of the Polish language in this monastery. In the document issued by the bishop of Cracow, Jan Lutek from Brzezie, who approved the document of the founder, Jan Rabsztyński, on 13 March 1469, there is, among others, a regulation stating that a provost should be elected from those monks who could speak Polish fluently.

Get PDFThe author undertakes to review the book Tomasz Domanski. Pomniki czasu 1992–2018 (Tomasz Domanski. Monuments of the Time 1992–2018), which she examines from two perspectives. She combines the formal qualities of the publication with the formal features of Domanski’s work and situates them in the field of such qualities as masculinity, power, strength, domination. On the other hand, in the non-standard form of The Illustrated Biography and the inclusion in the book of a photocopy of Domanski’s personal correspondence, diploma, student identity card, collected press clippings and private photographs, the author sees the artist’s need, incompatible with his domineering rhetoric of the publication, to tell his personal story going beyond problems of an artistic nature. The use of personal memorabilia and artefacts the author combines with the so-called turn to things, a methodology that is gaining popularity in contemporary humanities. On the occasion of the review of the book, the author examines Tomasz Domanski’s work over the years, demonstrating inspirations from the American art of the 1960s and 1970s. She points to the usefulness of the methodological model of the Sculpture in the Expanded Field by Rosalind E. Krauss, paying also attention to the postminimalistic or conceptual character of the materials used by Domanski (ice and wax subject to dematerialization)
