Body Image Formation Hypotheses Based On Corona Discharge: Discussion

    No full text
A paper entitled “Body Image Formation Hypotheses Based on Corona Discharge” was presented at the Dallas Conference on the TS (Turin Shroud) in 2005 by G. Fanti, F. Lattarulo and O. Scheuermann. It contains hypotheses, experimental results and comments; however, some questions which came up during the discussions at the SSG (Shroud Science Group) level, led the author to write the present paper. After a presentation of the main points regarding CD (Corona Discharge), and the definition of the hypotheses regarding the assumed model, some new evidence is presented and discussed here, such as the exsiccation of limited parts of linen fibers. The paper then explains different points raised by the SSG, such as the radiation direction, the 3-D effects of radiation and its mathematical representation, the image resolution, the double draping configurations of the TS, and the color on the linen fibers. The experimental results obtained to support the hypothesized mechanism show no appreciable chemical-physical differences from the image features of the TS. These results confirm that the proposed CD mechanism could have been involve d in the TS body image formation

Can a Corona Discharge Explain the Body Image of the Turin Shroud?

    No full text
The body image visible on the Turin Shroud (TS) has not yet been explained by science; this article proposes a hypothesis of image formation based on corona discharge (CD). Even if the environmental hypotheses relative to CD can be refined, many facts detected on the TS body image seem in agreement with the characteristics of an energy connected to CD and related to the human body enveloped in it. After a synthesis of the proposed imaging mechanisms and a presentation of the main characteristics of CD, the results, both at macroscopic and microscopic levels, of some experiments are presented and discussed also in light of some comments coming from scholars of Shroud Science Group. The results support the hypothesized mechanism of image formation and they show no appreciable chemical-physical differences from the image features of the TS. Therefore they confirm that the proposed CD mechanism could have been involved in the TS body image formation

Author Co-Citation Analysis (ACA): a powerful tool for representing implicit knowledge of scholar knowledge workers

    No full text
In the last decade, knowledge has emerged as one of the most important and valuable organizational assets. Gradually this importance caused to emergence of new discipline entitled ―knowledge management‖. However one of the major challenges of knowledge management is conversion implicit or tacit knowledge to explicit knowledge. Thus Making knowledge visible so that it can be better accessed, discussed, valued or generally managed is a long-standing objective in knowledge management. Accordingly in this paper author co- citation analysis (ACA) will be proposed as an efficient technique of knowledge visualization in academia (Scholar knowledge workers)

Portfolio of recorded performances and exegesis: Messiaen’s musical language for the jazz pianist - an exploration through performance.

Moving beyond Gunther Schuller’s Third Stream amalgamation of classical and jazz, this study explores whether the musical language of Olivier Messiaen can make a valid contribution to jazz piano performance. Initially, my project sought to answer such questions as: What elements of the musical language of Messiaen already exist in the jazz vocabulary? Am I able to extend this further? What are the timbral structures and pianistic effects within Messiaen’s musical language? What will be the most effective application of Messiaen’s musical language to jazz piano performance? Endeavouring to answer the final question led me to consider such aspects as whether the project should be limited to quoting Messiaen motifs, arranging Messiaen melodies, replacing jazz harmonic structures on standards with examples from Messiaen’s musical language or whether it would be better to approach the research conceptually. The work of Hubert Nuss provided encouraging reassurance that this was not an impossible task. In order to articulate this conception, the initial challenge was to decide how the classical and jazz worlds might meet in a ‘Messiaen’ technique. The approach adopted was similar to that used for undergraduate jazz study, namely, immersion in the piano scores and recordings of Messiaen’s music as well as by live performances. This was followed by the development and assessment of a contrived approach when specific techniques, such as tonal colourings or harmonic structures, were developed through prepared exercises and consciously included in my performance. It was then compared with an intuitive approach when no such precise parameters were established. This submission consists of CD recordings of two public recitals and an exegesis. It documents the development of this Messiaen technique and discusses its application in my performances. It also demonstrates the ways that Messiaen’s musical language can be used within jazz piano performance to provide a colour that distinguishes jazz piano performance in a competitive field.Thesis (M.Mus.) -- University of Adelaide, Elder Conservatorium of Music, 201

Abstract: Giulio Caccini (1561-1618) and his New Music are the central subject of this research. The translation of his most important works, Le Nuove Musiche (1601) and Nuove Musiche e Nuova Maniera di scriverle (1614), the chant practical study and the carefully observation of one of his arias are the basis of this work about an age in which the skill of being original was a real high demand for every court artist. Giulio Cacini has done it finding in his job as a singer and composer, the manners of living collectively and leaving his personal legate to eternity. Get into the reflexions of the Renaissance art characteristics, always starting from the chant and original texts, trying to let them reverberate, or in armonia favellare, is the biggest desire of this study. To benefit from a better understanding of Giulio Caccini's publications, the work connect the specialized musicology literature, history and sociology in 3 chapters, in order to integrate the knowledge that uses to be separated: 1. A Praise of Chant, 2. General aspects of the music in Renaissance and 3. The Florentine Camerata, the court artist and the paideia. The author's texts and music are the principal sources, supported by the practical experience following his chant lessons and the context of the treatise's arise conditions. Ending the research, there are an appendix of personalities related to the author and his time, a short ancient music glossary, the copy of the facsimile original edition and a Giulio Caccini's musical selection from CDs that are available in trade market.DoutoradoEducação, Conhecimento, Linguagem e ArteDoutor em Educaçã
