Quantum defragmentation algorithm
No full textIn this addendum to our paper [D. Burgarth and V. Giovannetti, Phys. Rev. Lett. 99, 100501 (2007)] we prove that during the transformation that allows one to enforce control by relaxation on a quantum system, the ancillary memory can be kept at a finite size, independently from the fidelity one wants to achieve. The result is obtained by introducing the quantum analog of defragmentation algorithms which are employed for efficiently reorganizing classical information in conventional hard disks

Majorization and additivity for multimode bosonic Gaussian channels
No full textRecently, the longstanding Gaussian optimizer conjecture was proven for
bosonic Gaussian gauge-covariant or contravariant channels in the work of
Giovannetti, Holevo and Garcia-Patron [3]. In the paper of Mari, Giovannetti
and Holevo [11] this result was strengthened for one-mode channels by
establishing that the output for the vacuum or coherent input majorizes the
output for any other input.
In the present paper we give the multimode extension of the result of [11],
including sufficient conditions under which the coherent states are the only
optimizers. We also discuss direct implications of this multimode majorization
result to the positive solution of the additivity problem for the Gaussian
channels. In particular, we demonstrate the additivity of the output Renyi
entropies of arbitrary order p>1. Finally, we present an alternative derivation
of a majorization property of Glauber's coherent states by Lieb and Solovej
[10], basing on the method of the work [3]

Forecasting EU-Romania Trade by Gravity Analysis
No full textThis paper attempts to forecast the EU-Romania trade using the gravity approach developed in Ferragina, Giovannetti and Pastore (2005). The trade potential of Romania with five EU members (France, Germany, Italy, Spain and UK) is computed using an “out-of-sample” methodology for the period 1995-2001. The coefficients are taken from panel estimators of the gravity equation relative to intra-EU15 trade. The analysis suggests the existence of an important unexploited trade potential with Romania, which, nonetheless, is not much greater in size than that of the new EU members of Eastern Europe. The potential to actual trade ratio ranges from 2.2 to 2.7 and is sharply declining, suggesting that further dramatic economic integration is to be expected in the near future. Romania’s accession is likely to further push the process of economic integration.
