The Erwin Lichtenstein Collection documents the work of Erwin Lichtenstein as an author. The bulk of the archival collection is in reference to his book "Die Juden der Freien Stadt Danzig unter der Herrschaft des Nationalsozialismus 1933-1945". The correspondence with Sam Echt, Werner Feilchenfeld, Ernst Loops and others reflect the response to Erwin Lichtenstein's publication. Noteworthy with regard to the book is the correspondence between Günter Grass and Erwin Lichtenstein. Although the bulk of the documents consists of correspondence, the collection also includes newspaper articles and book reviews, corrections and changes and the original manuscript of the aforementioned book.Walter Friedlaender ; Herbert Perlman (1948) ; Dr. Ludwig Hollaender (1935) ; deportations and death of Max Lichtenstein in Theresienstadt ; sister Kaethe Lichtenstein ; dissertation of Max Lichtenstein ; Rabbi Neuhaus ; Max Vogelstein and Hermann Vogelstein ; Max Fuerst ; John Vogelstein ; Trott von Solz ; Julie Braun-Vogelstein ; Blumenfeld, Diana ; Turkow, Jonas ; Hamburger, Ernst ; Hollaender, LudwigErwin Lichtenstein was born February 16, 1901 in Koenigsberg (today Kaliningrad, Russia). Agra ichabod Erwin, new species (Figs. 28 a, 28 b) Holotype. Female, COSTA RICA: Alajuela, Atenas, 9 º 58 'N 84 º 23 'W, May, (C. Aviles)(UCOR) ADP 7607. Diagnosis. This is the only species of Costa Rican Agra with aeneous elytral foveae and slightly oblique apex without a sutural tooth; foveae nearly contiguous. Description. Male unknown. Color and luster: Rufopiceous, aeneous. Legs rufopiceous with slightly infuscated knees; venter rufoaeneous. Foveae of interneurs with metallic blue reflections. Form: Head unknown. Pronotum with large punctures along each side of midline. Female slender, with elytra slightly flared behind middle. Elytron with apex (Fig. 28 a) moderately oblique, lateral tooth small, sutural apex rounded; foveae of interneurs large and positioned irregularly, some separated by their own diameter, other coalesced. Sternum VI (Fig. 28 b) of female nearly truncate. Size: small, 12mm in length (length of head estimated based on proportions of Agra monteverde Erwin (see below), 3.0mm in width. Other specimens examined. The female Holotype is the only specimen I saw. Specific epithet. The specific epithet, ichabod, is used as a noun in apposition, and refers to the fact that the Holotype is missing its head and the illusion is that of the frightened Schoolteacher Ichabod Crane’s phantom nemesis, the Headless Horseman, in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow from The Sketchbook of Geoffrey Crayon, by the American author, Washington Irving, published in 1819 20. Notes. The Holotype is from the Cordillera Volcánica Central Conservation Area. This very distinctive species is represented only by the female Holotype, which is headless, however, its unique elytral attributes justify giving it a name and bringing it to the attention of collectors. The head may be described later, based on discovery of a second, complete, specimen. The closely related species, Agra soccata Bates of Panamá with which this female agrees in attributes provided the information on male attributes, hence my assignment of this species to the soccata group.Published as part of Erwin, Terry L., 2002, The Beetle Family Carabidae of Costa Rica: Twentynine new species of Agra Fabricius 1801 (Coleoptera: Carabidae, Lebiini, Agrina), pp. 1-68 in Zootaxa 119 on page 61, DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.16280

This portfolio is mysterious. I am delighted to have found it. I had not known of it previously. Erwin Poell was born in 1930 and retired in 2005. I can find no indication of how limited the edition of this work was. These sheets are large: 18 x 13¾. How nice that Poell identifies himself as from Mannheim! Overall one finds here one double leaf (title, contents & colophon) and eight folio sheets printed in different fonts with colored illustrations. My research was made more difficult by my being told that the illustrator was Edwin Poell. The seller notes slight dulling around the edges, in a red card folio folder which has some minor edge wear. Particularly and surprisingly well-preserved; tight, bright, clean and especially sharp-cornered. In each of the lovely illustrations, very nicely integrated with the text, there seem to be two colors beyond black. Perhaps most striking of the illustrations is Die Tanzenden Affen. The apes reaching for nuts -- and so disrupting their scripted performance -- are almost skeletons. Another striking illustration is that for Krebs und Schlange. The now-straight snake moves down the center of the page. GA here is presented rather as Ameise und Mistkaefer. An important part of the exercise in producing this lovely work was offering a different font for each fable. This is a lovely work!Language note: GermanLudwig Made

Brachinus pallidus Erwin, NEW SPECIES TYPE LOCALITY: Mad River, 5 miles east of Mad River Post Office, Trinity County, California. TYPE SPECIMENS: The holotype male and allotype female have been deposited in the entomological museum at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. Both were collected by the author at the type locality, on August 16, 1964. Forty-eight paratypes (of both sexes) were collected by the author at the type locality and from Coyote Creek, 7 miles east of Gilroy, Santa Clara County, California (below Gilroy Hot Springs). Ten of these paratypes are deposited in each of the following: CAS, MCZ, AMNH, and the author's collection. Two paratypes are in each of the following: SJSC, UCD, UIM, and the University of Moscow. The remaining paratypes have been returned to their owners. DISTRIBUTION: This species is mostly restricted to northern California, with only two populations known to occur south of Monterey Bay (fig. 13). DESCRIPTION: Size. Length 7 to 9 mm.; width 3 to 3:5 mm. Coloration. Elytra of both sexes dark blue with blue epipleura; head and pronotum ferrugineus; mandibles reddish brown with piceous mesal edges and tip; antennal segments 1-2, legs, and palpi ferrugino-testaceous; antennal segments 3-11 ferrugineus; mesepisterna and sides of abominal sterna ferrugineus (occasionally caudal half of mesepisterna is brown, in which case sides of abdominal sterna will also be brown). Head. Labrum entire; dorsal surface of mentum slightly convex, with a setae at each anterior corner; bead around eyes entire, thickened at dorsal edge; frons with shallow frontal furrows which are finely rugose; numerous setae arise behind eyes and on top of had; microsculpture consists of very fine isodiametric meshes. Pronotum. Wider just before middle and with sides deeply sinuate; anterior angles slightly prominent; posterior angles acute and directed posteriorly, with lateral basal impressions shallow; lateral margins slightly reflexed, with a narrow bead of slightly darker color than pronotum; disc flat, quite rugose down midline and with a few setiferous punctures on basal half and at anterior corners; microsculpture consists of fine isodiametric meshes. Elytra. Male elytra with sides almost parallel, narrowing very little to slightly prominent humeri; deeply costate; microsculpture consists of fine isodiametric meshes; pubescent bands occur near humeri only in 7th and 8th intervals, but broaden to cover entire elytra beyond apical fourth; a few hairs occur in scutellar region. Female elytra similar, but proportionately wider than those of male in apical half. Aedeagus (fig. 4). Phallus prominently compressed resembling a "T" shape in cross section and ending in a feebly rounded point; microsculpture lacking. The endophallus bears a lightly pigmented bilobed virga which is connected ventrally by a thin "bridge." CALIFORNIA LOCALITY RECORDS: 392 paratypes were examined.
