Two Approaches to the Positioning of Translations: A Comparative Study of Itamar Even-Zohar\u27s Polysystem Studies And Gideon Toury\u27s Descriptive Translation Studies and Beyond
Get PDFThis paper aims to analyze the work of two contemporary scholars of Translation theory, Itamar Even-Zohar and Gideon Toury. Their studies arise out of Russian Formalism and their common location at the University of Tel Aviv. Even-Zohar’s Polysystem theory attempts to position texts and their translations within “literary polysystems.” On the other hand, Gideon Toury extends Even-Zohar’s discussion by a more detailed consideration of the role of “norms” in the translation process. This article suggests that Toury’s ideas have been more readily accepted by the academic community because of the way they fit other dimensions of contemporary thought. Although this paper does not consider the application of these theories, it suggests that these theories could be valuable in the study of Southeast Asian literature and the relationships between local literatures in different languages
The Misanthrope (İnsandan Kaçan) Translation Of Bedrettin Tuncel Under The Title Of Gideon Toury's Target-Oriented Theory
No full textFransız edebiyat ve kültür dizgesinden, Türk edebiyat ve kültür dizgesine yaptığı çevirilerle adından söz ettiren Bedrettin Tuncel'in çeviri tarihimizdeki yeri yadsınamaz. Yapmış olduğu çevirilerle Türk kültür dizgemize büyük katkılarda bulunan Tuncel, kültür değerlerimizle, Fransız kültürünün değerlerini evrensel bir çizgide sentezlemiştir. Araştırmanın kuramsal çerçevesini Molière'in Le Misanthrope adlı eseri ve Bedrettin Tuncel'in İnsandan Kaçan başlıklı çevirisi oluşturmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, İnsandan Kaçan başlıklı çevirinin, Gideon Toury'nin erek odaklı kuramı ışığında incelenmesidir. Çevirmen, siyasetçi, edebiyatçı ve akademisyen kimliğine sahip olan Bedrettin Tuncel'in Türkçeye kazandırmış olduğu çeviri eserlerin yanı sıra ön sözler bağlamında bilgi verilmiş ve gerçekleştirdiği İnsandan Kaçan başlıklı çeviriye ilişkin kararları ortaya konmaya çalışılmıştır. Söz konusu çeviri eser, Gideon Toury'nin erek odaklı çeviribilim kuramının öngördüğü normlar ışığında irdelenmiştir. İlgili kuramın öne sürdüğü "öncül normlar", "süreç öncesi normlar" ve "çeviri süreci normları" bağlamında somut örnekler verilerek çevirinin "yeterlilik" kutbuna mı yoksa "kabul edilebilirlik" kutbuna mı daha yakın olduğu belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Kaynak eserin yazım üslubu korunmuş, manzum eser, manzum türde çevrilmiştir. Tuncel,İnsandan Kaçan başlıklı çevirisiyle kaynak metin ve erek metin arasında bir denge kurmuş; biçim açısından "yeterli"; diliçi kullanım yönünden ise "kabul edilebilir" bir çeviri ürünü ortaya koymuştur. Bu bağlamda Tuncel'in İnsandan Kaçan başlıklı çevirisi hem "yeterli" hem de "kabul edilebilir" bir çeviri olarak değerlendirilebilir.The place of Bedrettin Tuncel who is known for the translations from French literature and culture system to Turkish literature and culture system is undeniable within our translation history. Having contributed greatly to the Turkish culture system with his translations, Tuncel synthesized our cultural values with French cultural values in a universal line. The purpose of this study is to examine the translation İnsandan Kaçan under the title of target-oriented theory of Gideon Toury. Information based on the preambles is given besides the translation masterpieces translated and presented to the Turkish language by Bedrettin Tuncel who has the identities of translator, politician, man of letters and academician and it is also tried to show the decisions on the translation called İnsandan Kaçan. This translation masterpiece has been studied under the norms prescribed by the target-oriented translation approach of Gideon Toury. It is tried to determine whether the translation is closer to the "adequacy" pole or the "acceptability" pole by giving concrete samples based on the "initial norms", "preliminary norms" and "operational norms" suggested by the theory mentioned. The style of writing of the source masterpiece has preserved and the verse parts have been translated in verse format. In his translation called İnsandan Kaçan Tuncel has created a balance between the source text and the target text and presented a translation "adequate" in terms of format and "acceptable" in terms of the intralingual usage. Therefore, the translation İnsandan Kaçan by Tuncel can be evaluated as both "adequate" and "acceptable" translation
JUANA MANUELA GORRITI E SUA TRADUÇÃO AO PORTUGUÊS: UMA ANÁLISE À LUZ DOS EDT DE GIDEON TOURY
Get PDFO presente trabalho tem como objetivo expor a análise realizada na comparação do conto “El emparedado”, de Juana Manuela Gorriti (1818-1892), e sua tradução ao português brasileiro, realizada por Fernanda del Mestre Portella e publicada sob o título “O emparedado”, no livro Contos de Juana Manuela Gorriti (São Paulo: LiberArs, 2017), que é a primera antologia dessa autora argentina em português. Como marco teórico de análise, será usada uma interface de teorias: a Lingüística Sistêmico Funcional, para proceder a segmentação textual, e os Estudos Descritivos da Tradução, para verificar se a tradutora cumpriu as normas iniciais e operacionais previstas por Gideon Toury (1995). O principal objetivo é verificar se há sistematização nas decisões de tradução, que comprovam uma coerência em suas escolhas. Dessa forma, a partir da comparação dos segmentos oracionais do original e da tradução, buscaremos averiguar se a tradução do conto mantem mais adequaçao ao Texto de Origem (TO) ou contém mais aceitabilidade ao Texto Meta (TM). A principal hipótese de trabalho refere-se a adequação das trocas lexicais e sintáticas, principalmente, no que corresponde às normas iniciais e operacionais, previstas nos EDT, e também no que estuda o par tema/rema, previsto na LSF
La traducción de "Descriptive Translation Studies and Beyond" de Gideon Toury al español: un trasvase académico e intercultural
Get PDF[ES] Esta aportación se centra en las posibilidades y límites que existen al acometer el traslado de una obra perteneciente al ámbito de la Traductología: Descriptive Translation Studies and Beyond de Gideon Toury. Los límites metalingüísticos al traducir esta monografía venían dados ante todo por la necesidad de aportar nueva información al tratar de reproducir la casuística que se presenta en el original en forma de ejemplos. Para aportar dicha información adicional se recurrió a una estructura adaptada del volumen, de modo que, aparte del contenido del original, nos encontramos, en la edición española.? una presentación, una introducción y las notas de las traductoras. Este envoltorio con el que se adaptó el texto a la cultura meta resultó ser un ingrediente necesario que se utilizó de forma muy moderada. Por decirlo de otro modo, al acometer la traducción de la obra de Toury las posibilidades que se abrían eran múltiples y variadas, aunque finalmente los cambios estructurales y las adiciones de material nuevo se ciñeron a lo que en su momento se consideró que era estrictamente necesario

No full textDiller arası etkileşim tarih boyu süre gelmiştir. Önce sözlü daha sonra yazılı hale gelen bu etkileşim çeviri yoluyla sürdürülmüştür. Çeviri hayatın her alanında etkin durumdadır. Bu sayede çeviri ile ister bilimsel ve teknik alanda olsun ister edebiyat ve sanat alanında olsun dünya hakkında birçok bilgi edinilmektedir. Edinilen bu bilgilerin hedef okuyucu tarafından da doğru algılanması için kuramsal anlamda bir çeviri stratejisinin uygulanmasının gerekliliği düşünülmektedir.Bu doğrultuda modern İran edebiyatının önde gelen kadın şairi olan Furûğ Ferruhzâd’ın Bir Başka Doğuşadlı şiir kitabında yer alan “Bahçenin Fethi” adlı şiiri incelemenin malzemesi olarak kullanılmıştır. Furûğ Ferruhzâd’ın olgunluk döneminin ürünü olan “Bahçenin Fethi” şiiri, çeviriye daha bilimsel bakabilmek adına Gideon Toury tarafından geliştirilen “Betimleyici Çeviri Araştırmaları” yöntemi doğrultusunda kuramsal bir çerçeve içerisinde ele alınmıştır. İncelemede Ali Güzelyüz, Makbule Aras ve Onat-Kutlar-Celal Hüsrevşahi adlı üç çevirmenin çevirileri değerlendirme konusu olmuştur. Çeviriler “kabul edilebilirlik” ve “yeterlilik” açısından incelenmiştir. Bu yöntem doğrultusunda eğer metin hedef metin normlarına göre çevrilmişse ve okuyucuda çeviri metin algısı yaratmıyorsa “kabul edilebilir” bir çeviri, kaynak metin normlarına göre çevrilmişse ve metinhedef okuyucuda yabancılaştırma algısı yaratıyorsa “yeterli” bir çeviri olarak değerlendirilmiştir. Ayrıca çevirmenlerin yaptıkları değişiklikler saptanarak, bu değişiklikler kaynak ve hedef metne göre incelenmiştir. Her iki yöntem esnasında çevirmen ne tür stratejiler uygulamış ise belirtilmeye çalışılmıştır.Interaction between languages has been around for a while. This interaction, which first became verbal and then written, was continued through translation. Translation is active in all areas of life. In this way, a lot of information about the world is obtained through translation, whether in the scientific and technical field or in the field of literature and art. It is considered necessary to apply a theoretical translation strategy in order to perceive this information correctly by the target reader. In this respect, Forough Farrokhzad, the leading woman poet of modern Iranian literature,used the material of the poem “The Conquest of the Gardenin his poetry book” Another Birth. Forough Farrokhzad’s product of the maturity period “The Conquest of the Garden” is discussed in a theoretical framework with Descriptive Translation Studies developed by Gideon Toury in order to look at the translation more scientifically.The translations of three translators Ali Güzelyüz, Makbule Aras and Onat Kutlar-Jalal Khosrowshahiwere examined in terms of “acceptability” and “adequacy”. In line with this method, it evaluted if the text is translated according tothe target text norms, as “an acceptable translation” or if the text is translated according to source text the norms, as “an adequate translation”. Furthermore, the changes made by the translators were determined and examined according to the source and target text.During both methods, it was tried to specify what strategies the translator applied
