Polycyclic hydrocarbon contamination in and around the Arthur Kill, Staten Island, New York
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are ubiquitous environmental contaminants. PAHs are often found in industrialized and urbanized areas as a result of industrial processes, combustion of carbon-bearing compounds, and urban runoff. The area surrounding the Arthur Kill in Staten Island, New York, is an area with a long history of industrial activity, pollution, and anthropogenic contamination. The area is known to have elevated levels of metal pollution which has impacted the benthic infaunal community dynamics. The purpose of this study is to determine the levels of PAHs present in sediments in and around the Arthur Kill, and to determine if the levels of PAHs present have affected benthic macroinfaunal community structure. Sediment PAH concentrations were measured using isotope dilution mass spectrometry, and the effects of that contamination on community structure were determined using linear regression, Principal Component Analysis (PCA), and Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA). Organic carbon normalized PAH concentrations ranged from 45 to 211 ug/g organic carbon, below concentrations considered dangerous. No significant relationship was found between benthic macrofauna biomass or abundance using the various statistical methods, suggesting that PAH contamination is not a driving factor in the community composition in and around the Arthur Kill.M.S.Includes bibliographical referencesby Gerald Thomas Rusti
ABSTRACT
This work presents a reflection on the aesthetic processes of the director Gerald Thomas. The text points to the conception of Thomas for the scenic creation from textual fragments and intertextuality, agglutinating/juxtaposing elements of the scene with the narrative. The reflection identifies the role of the spectator as a destabilized subject by scenario.

The Kafka Trilogy (1988) by Gerald Thomas and the brazilian theatre update project
The present work, supported by the possible interlocutions between History and Theater, aims to investigate the narrative built by part of the theater critics about the director Gerald Thomas from the reception of the set of plays Kafka's Trilogy – A Process, A Methamorphosis and Prague, staged in 1988 in São Paulo. By understanding the interpretations of the theater critics as fundamental to the writing of the History of Brazilian Theater, we find in this documentation evidences of a yearning for reformulating in the theater in the context of
redemocratization. It has been verified that the narratives constructed in the Brazilian theater scene during the decade of the 1980s, transit between considering as overcome the themes of political theater and identifying, inthe multiple proposals resulting from this process, a sign of crisis. In this scenario Gerald Thomas presents himself as an artist who, in theory, updated theater made in Brazil by being endorsed by groups who wanted to emphasize the rupture, in several aspects, with the Miliatry Dictatorship period.
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
