Cultural Diplomacy in Films by Garin Nugroho
Full text linkThis article conducts an in-depth examination of Indonesian cultural elements in Garin Nugroho’s films, using Joseph Nye’s theory of cultural diplomacy as a conceptual framework. Through the analysis of films such as “Daun Di Atas Bantal” and “Opera Jawa,” the article aims to identify and explore the local cultural elements that Nugroho integrates into his film narratives. This research focuses on how Garin Nugroho presents traditional Indonesian cultural elements and how this contributes to international understanding of Indonesia’s cultural richness. By applying the theory of cultural diplomacy, the article highlights the importance of cultural representation in films as a form of soft power capable of building a positive image of Indonesia on the global stage. The study also discusses how Garin Nugroho’s films play a role in cultural diplomacy, serving not only as a medium of entertainment but also as an educational tool and cultural promotion. The article supports the hypothesis that cultural diplomacy plays a crucial role in building understanding and appreciation of a nation’s cultural wealth, as well as strengthening international relations through cultural exchange. Thus, this article functions not only as a critical analysis of Garin Nugroho’s films but also as a case study demonstrating how cultural diplomacy can be effectively used to promote and introduce Indonesian culture to international audiences. The findings of this research are expected to contribute to film studies, cultural diplomacy, and the development of future strategies for promoting Indonesian culture.
Nilai Pendidikan Karakter Dalam Kitab Washaya Al-Aba’ Li Al-Abna Karya Muhammad Syakir Al-Iskandari
Full text linkThis research aims to identify the character education values contained in the book Washaya al-Aba' li al-Abna Muhammad Syakir and the role of his opinion on the richness of character education values. It is hoped that this research can be used as a source or reference in efforts to develop education and character as a whole, especially character education according to Islam. It can also be used as a reference to facilitate understanding of character education and as a reference for relevant research in the future. This research method is qualitative and uses a narrative biography method. By using a descriptive presentation approach, this autobiography of the character's thoughts combines the ideas of character education from his work. Library research, or library research, is a research method that involves books, articles, notes and electronic media. with primary sources from the book Washaya al Aba Li al-Abna and secondary sources from study books. In this research, data collection was carried out through the documentation method, which includes searching for data through variables such as notes, books, and articles, among others. The author used a content analysis study to analyze the data; they analyzed the data textually based on the contents of the book. The research results show that the book Washaya al Aba Li al-Abna contains 17 educational character values, divided into two categories: 10 character values fall into the moral category and 7 character values fall into the performance category. Faith and piety, love and obedience to the Messenger of Allah, respect for parents, respect for teachers, truth or honesty, nobility or self-respect, patience, sincerity and a simple life are moral characters. Performance characteristics also include trust, discipline, hard work, never giving up, love of the country, interest in reading or literacy knowledge, and concern for the environment

No full textThis volume contains seven poems handwritten by Muhammad al-Ghāli Ba. According to the author's son, Mountaga Ba, the poems were probably composed in the mid-1970s a time when the author lived in Mauritania, while working at the country's national radio station and serving as a special counsel to then president Moktar Ould Daddah (1924–2003). The poems adress various issues. The first is a call to action addressed to the Mauritianian youth, urging them to join in the collective work for the development of the country. The second poem is a hagiography on Ceerno Ahmad Nene Ba of Kaedi (Mauritania). The poem eulogizes the virtues of the patron. The third describes the event of Sharif Muhammad al-Habib's visit to the region of Fuuta region (Senegal), namely the village of Pate Galo. The fourth poem contains greetings and expresions of love addressed to the author's friends in the town of Kaedi. The fifth poem is a remembrance about good times. The author reminisces and praises the qualities of a woman named Jaari.The sixth poem describes one afternoon journey of the author. The seventh poem is a mournful praisesong in which the author laments the loss of a cherished person.Ce volume contient sept poèmes manuscrits de Muhammad al-Ghāli Ba. KREATIVITAS RAHAYU SUPANGGAH PADA FILM OPERA JAWA KARYA GARIN NUGROHO
Full text linkPerkembangan film di Indonesia salah satunya pernah diwarnai oleh
film genre musikal. Film genre ini mengalami titik puncak pasca reformasi
ketika Film Petualangan Sherina hadir. Titik tersebut kemudian menjadi awal
perkembangan film genre musikal yang lahir pada periode tahun 2000-an.
Salah satu film musikal yang menarik adalah Film Opera Jawa karya Garin
Nugroho. Opera Jawa menarik karena pertama, Opera Jawa mendapatkan
berbagai penghargaan dan nominasi tingkat nasional maupun internasional.
Kedua, karena film ini mendasarkan garapan musikalnya dengan media
gamelan Jawa atau karawitan. Alasan kedua inilah yang menjadi fokus pada
penelitian ini.
Penelitian “Musik Film Opera Jawa Karya Garin Nugroho” merupakan
upaya mengungkap salah satu metodologi penciptaan musik film yang
mendasarkan proses kreatifnya dengan media karawitan Jawa (musik
gamelan). Konsep-konsep musikal karawitan yang diusung Rahayu Supanggah
sebagai music director diungkap melalui pendekatan kualitatif interpretatif
kemudian semua data dianalisis dan diinterprestasikan kembali untuk nantinya
dilakukan kodefikasi dan dikategorisasikan menurut jenis dan karakternya
(Straus dan Corbin, 2003: 52). Ada empat form major dalam penelitian ini,
pertama tentang musik film yang menggunakan pendekatan Tincknell dan
Concrich. Kedua mengenai Film Musikal dengan menggunakan pendekatan
Pratista dalam bukunya Memahami Film (2008). Ketiga adalah karawitan
sebagai musik film dengan pendekatan konsep garap-nya Rahayu Supanggah
dalam buku Bothekan Karawitan Garap (2007) serta keempat adalah
penciptaan komposisi musik (karawitan) dari Sadra “Lorong Kecil Menuju
Susunan Musik” 2006.
Hasil penelitian ini nantinya akan menjadi salah satu materi dalam buku
ajar menciptakan komposisi karawitan untuk musik-musik film yang berbasis
pada musik-musik Nusantara – seperti salah satunya karawitan (musik
gamelan) untuk mata kuliah Komposisi Karawitan I, II, dan III. Luaran dari
penelitian ini adalah naskah ilmiah yang akan diterbitkan oleh jurnal-jurnal
nasional yang fokus pada kajian seni, khususnya seni pertunjukan atau seni
musik (karawitan)
