Efficient implementation of a CCA2-secure variant of McEliece using generalized Srivastava codes
In this paper we present efficient implementations of McEliece variants using quasi-dyadic codes. We provide secure parameters for a classical McEliece encryption scheme based on quasi-dyadic generalized Srivastava codes, and successively convert our scheme to a CCA2-secure protocol in the random oracle model applying the Fujisaki-Okamoto transform. In contrast with all other CCA2-secure code-based cryptosystems that work in the random oracle model, our conversion does not require a constant weight encoding function. We present results for both 128-bit and 80-bit security level, and for the latter we also feature an implementation for an embedded device. © 2012 International Association for Cryptologic Research
The PASTEL catalogue (Soubiran+, 2010)
pastel.dat 30151x202 The catalogue of stellar atmospheric parametersVizieR On-line Data Catalog: B/pastel. Originally published in: 2010A&A...515A.111SPASTEL is a bibliographical catalogue compiling determinations of stellar atmospheric parameters. It provides (Teff, logg, [Fe/H]) determinations obtained from detailed analyses of high resolution, high signal to noise spectra, carried out with the help of model atmospheres. It also provides effective temperatures Teff from various methods. PASTEL is regularly updated. The catalogue supersedes the two previous versions of the [Fe/H] catalogue (Cayrel de Strobel et al., 1997 [Cat. III/200], 2001 [Cat. III/221]). (1 data file)

Essential role for the interaction between hnRNP H/F and a G quadruplex in maintaining p53 pre-mRNA 3′-end processing and function during DNA damage
Following DNA damage, mRNA 3′-end formation is inhibited, contributing to repression of mRNA synthesis. Here we investigated how DNA-damaged cells accomplish p53 mRNA 3′-end formation when normal mechanisms of pre-mRNA 3′-end processing regulation are inhibited. The underlying mechanism involves the interaction between a G-quadruplex structure located downstream from the p53 cleavage site and hnRNP H/F. Importantly, this interaction is critical for p53 expression and contributes to p53-mediated apoptosis. Our results uncover the existence of a specific rescue mechanism of 3′-end processing regulation allowing stress-induced p53 accumulation and function in apoptosis.</jats:p
Abundances in the Uranium-rich Star CS 31082-001
The recent discovery by Cayrel et al. of U in CS 31082-001 along with Os and Ir at greatly enhanced abundances but with [Fe/H] = -2.9 strongly reinforces the argument that there are at least two kinds of Type II supernova (SN II) sources for r-nuclei. One source is the high-frequency H events responsible for heavy r-nuclei (A > 135) but not Fe. The H-yields calculated from data on other ultra-metal-poor stars and the Sun provide a template for quantitatively predicting the abundances of all other r-elements. In CS 31082-001 these should show a significant deficiency at A < 135 relative to the solar r-pattern. It is proposed that CS 31082-001 should have had a companion that exploded as an SN II H event. If the binary survived the explosion, this star should now have a compact companion, most likely a stellar-mass black hole. Comparison of abundance data with predicted values and a search for a compact companion should provide a stringent test of the proposed r-process model. The U-Th age determined by Cayrel et al. for CS 31082-001 is, to within substantial uncertainties, in accord with the r-process age determined from solar system data. The time gap between the big bang and the onset of normal star formation allows r-process chronometers to provide only a lower limit on the age of the universe
