Realização de processos verbais em textos científicos da área de engenharia civil
No full textO presente trabalho, vinculado ao projeto SAL, apresenta um estudo da realização de processos verbais em língua portuguesa do Brasil em textos da área de Engenharia Civil. O objetivo é analisar quais formas linguísticas realizam processos verbais, com que frequência são usados e que significados produzem em textos científicos dessa área. O corpus de análise constitui-se de 51 textos que compõem os volumes 1 e 2 do livro "Concreto: ciência e tecnologia", publicada pelo IBRACON (Instituto Brasileiro do Concreto). Para a compilação do corpus, seguiram-se princípios da Linguística de Corpus (Sardinha, 2004; Almeida & Correia, 2008). A identificação das formas linguísticas e o tratamento quantitativo dos dados foram realizados com auxílio das ferramentas WordListe Concord do WordSmith Tools (SCOTT, 2008). A análise das formas linguísticas foi realizada com base nos critérios da Gramática Sistêmico-Funcional (Halliday & Matthiessen, 2004) para descrição e classificação de processos verbais. Os resultados apontam que os verbos mais frequentes do corpus, recomendar e especificar, funcionam como processos de semiose do tipo comando e podem ser consideradas características do discurso científico na área de Engenharia Civil.Formas linguísticas em terceira pessoa do presente e no particípio servem como recurso de impessoalização no discurso científico

Get PDFDifferent views on language from previously held conceptions have provided new relationships between this object of study and the subjects. Presenting some of these points of view in order to trace the historical course of linguistic studies is the purpose of this paper. The criterion used to select theories takes into account factors that seem to express nuances among them, aiming to point out some aspects of the development of linguistics before and after its acknowledgement as a science. The knowledge of these conceptions leads us to conclude that it is impossible to undertake any kind of linguistic study denying the relevance of previous studies. Thus, the role of contemporary linguists is as complex as the role of Greek and Roman philosophers, medieval grammarians and neogrammarians
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Mecanismos de institucionalização da atividade jurídica: pressupostos sociológicos para análise linguística
Get PDFConsiderando-se a perspectiva de linguagem que se insere nos estudos da Análise Crítica do Discurso, em que se analisam aspectos sócio-culturais que vão além de estudos tradicionais de descrição e explicação de elementos lingüísticos, pretende-se, neste trabalho, verificar alguns mecanismos de institucionalização das atividades realizadas pelo grupo dos operadores do Direito, que desempenham papéis específicos perante os demais grupos sociais e, de certa forma, mantêm a ordem social. A partir do conhecimento dos mecanismos de institucionalização, segundo os pressupostos teóricos de Veblen (1980), Berger & Luckmann (1985), Pross (1980), Elias & Scottson (2000), Bourdieu (1996), Fairclough (2003) e Bazerman (2004), busca-se depreender como os operadores do direito organizam e controlam suas atividades na sociedade e em que medida os textos que produzem ajudam a realizar tais atividades. Para isso, consideram-se textos que compõem os autos de um processo da Vara Criminal e de um processo da Vara Civil. A análise permitiu constatar que o processo penal pode ser considerado um sistema de gêneros que organiza o sistema de atividades típicas da instituição jurídica. As reflexões, realizadas à luz das teorias sociológicas estudadas, possibilitam perceberem-se algumas razões pelas quais a linguagem utilizada nos textos utilizados por esse grupo social é considerada, muitas vezes, hermética pelos indiví- duos de outros grupos

Get PDFThis paper shows the analysis of lexicogrammar choices in a genre catalyst in the process of literacy and teaching training: the guiding notes. Based on the textualinteractive perspective to evaluate texts and on principles of Systemic Functional Linguistics, we analyze guiding notes produced by a language training teacher to students who participate in a text workshop developed in a public school in Santa Maria. The analysis highlighted which lexicogrammar elements related to ideational and interpersonal metafunction are used to establish interaction, induce and guide writing. From lexicogrammar patterns, four basic movements are proposed to organize the guiding notes: reader’s reactions to the text, compliments about the writing, and guiding and incentive for rewriting.Este artigo apresenta análise de escolhas léxico-gramaticais num gênero catalisador no processo de letramento e formação de professores: o bilhete orientador. Com base na perspectiva textual-interativa para avaliação de textos e em princípios da Linguística Sistêmico-Funcional, são analisados bilhetes orientadores produzidos por uma professora em formação na área de Letras, dirigidos a alunos participantes de um Ateliê de Textos desenvolvido numa escola pública, em Santa Maria, RS. A análise evidenciou quais elementos léxico-gramaticais, relacionados às metafunções ideacional e interpessoal, são usados para estabelecer interação, provocar e orientar a reescrita. A partir de padrões léxico-gramaticais, quatro movimentos básicos são propostos para a organização do bilhete orientador: reações do leitor ao texto do aluno, elogios à produção, orientações para a reescrita e incentivo à reescrita
A função experiencial da linguagem no contexto jurídico
Get PDFThe objective of this work is to analyze the representation of accusation and defense in Final Allegation texts from a Penal Process written in Portuguese. The transitivity analysis, with emphasis in the types of processes and participants, shows how the practices of accusation and defense in the criminal context are performed by social actors in the referred genre. To do that, we have used Bazerman (2004) on textual genres, Halliday (2004) on grammar roles in the experiential metafunction, and Van Leewen (1997) on socio-semantic roles in the representation of social actors. We have also considered the rules and regulations used in the constitution of Brazilian Penal Processes, according to the Código de Processo Penal (1941) in use and the systematization of Capez (2006) for the contextualization of the final allegations inside a Penal Process.

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
