Die literarische Übersetzung: apresentação da obra de Jirí Levý acompanhada de uma tradução comentada
Get PDFDissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e Expressão, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Estudos da Tradução, Florianópolis, 2011Em virtude da relevância do texto Umení prekladu (1963), de Jirí Levý, e da importância dos estudos realizados pelo teórico tcheco no que concerne à tradução, além da inexistência de traduções de sua obra para o português, o presente trabalho se dedica à apresentação da emblemática obra deste autor, em sua versão alemã Die literarische Übersetzung (1969), cujo texto foi revisado pelo autor, e da tradução comentada da mesma, elaborada como um instrumento de reflexão sobre questões de tradução, com base na perspectiva ética formulada por Antoine Berman, e, apoiada também nos pressupostos teóricos ligados à tradução de Friedrich Schleiermacher e Ji?í Levý. Apesar de a obra de Levý tratar-se de um texto técnico-científico, cujo foco principal é a tradução literária, deliberadamente, foram utilizadas teorias que também voltam suas análises para este tipo textual, questionando, assim, a possibilidade destas teorias de serem aplicadas a outros materiais textuais, e ampliando, assim, seu escopo
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDFTese (doutorado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e Expressão, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Estudos da Tradução, Florianópolis, 2014.Esta tese parte da pesquisa das interfaces entre os Estudos da Tradução e outras áreas das ciências humanas: os Estudos Pós-coloniais e a Romanística com o objetivo de apresentar uma discussão a respeito de estratégias e abordagens na tradução de poesia entre línguas cognatas. Com esse propósito, delimitamos um corpus que organizamos, editamos, traduzimos e examinamos; uma antologia de textos poéticos escritos em língua occitana e em língua catalã no século XIX que têm como temática a língua vinculada à identidade. Ainda que a antologia integre textos de vários autores, todos eles pertencem a um mesmo período histórico, a uma área geográfica contígua e a movimentos estético-literários paralelos: Felibritge e Renaixença. Assumimos uma proposta de tradução que definimos como intra-românica, e avaliamos as possibilidades e os limites de tal proposta aplicada ao processo tradutório dos textos da antologia em português brasileiro, relevando os elementos linguísticos e literários que balizam nosso trabalho. Assim (1) apresentamos os poemas originais junto à tradução para o português; e, em seguida, (2) discutimos os desafios do ato tradutório e analisamos as divergências, os paralelismos e as convergências entre os originais e a nossa tradução. Para concluir, (3) comentamos as reflexões sobre a língua que eles transmitem.Abstract : This research seeks to investigate the interdisciplinary crossroad between Translation Studies and other areas of Human Sciences, in particular The Post Colonial Studies and Romance Language. For this purpose, we have selected an anthology of poems written in Occitan and Catalan language in the nineteenth century. The common topic, the link between language and identity. Although the anthology integrates and is composed of texts by different authors, they all belong to the same historical period, geographical area contiguous to and parallel aesthetic ?wordiness? and literary movements: Felibritge y Renaixença. First, we propose and a translation that is defined as intra-Romanesque. Then, we evaluate the possibilities and limitations of such an approach to the translation process of this anthology into Brazilian Portuguese. Them, the original poems are presented with the translation into Portuguese. A second part discusses the challenges of translating as well asthe differences, the parallels and similarities between the original and our translation proposition. Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

Programa de Pós-graduação em Estudos da TraduçãoEste trabalho de dissertação é fruto de estudos de teorias da tradução e teve como princípio norteador a aquisição de conhecimentos sobre aspectos relacionados com a produção da obra original, para só então definir a posição do tradutor. Somente após a contextualização da obra original e análise das características do autor concretizou-se a tradução do conto Lizards in Jamshyd's Courtyard de William Faulkner. Para manter a força do conto original não houve simplesmente a preocupação em conseguir encontrar equivalentes ou traduzir palavra por palavra, mas sim, em adentrar no jogo de significantes, de maneira a tornar a tradução o mais próximo possível do original, respeitando a heterogeneidade das situações lingüísticas e culturais existentes entre a língua inglesa do original e a língua portuguesa no Brasil, para a qual o conto foi traduzido. Muitos obstáculos foram encontrados ao longo desse processo, e a estes, foram apresentadas soluções. Tanto as hipóteses levantadas para a solução dos problemas, quanto as decisões tomadas descritas nesta pesquisa estão ancoradas nos princípios teóricos de Lawrence Venutti, Georges Mounin, John C. Catford e Antoine Berman. This essay has its origins in studies about translation theories and in the knowledge acquisition about the aspects related with the production of the original work. Just after those studies, was established the position as translator. And only after the contextualization of the original work and the analysis of the author characteristics it was started the translation process of the tale Lizards in Jamshyd's Courtyard written by William Faulkner, this tale is part of the novel Hamlet written by the same author. To maintain the strength of the original tale there was not just a concern about getting equivalents or translating word by word , but was to be very close to the characteristics of the original tale; considering what is heterogeneous in the linguistic and cultural situations between the English language in which the original tale was written, and the Portuguese language from Brazil where the tale has been translated. The hypothesis, the possible solutions to the problems found, and the decisions taken in this research are based on: Lawrence Venutti, Georges Mounin, John C. Cattford and Antoine Berman's theories
