    088. Meet the Professor: Rev. Joel Fritsche

    No full text
Concordia Seminary Dean of Theological Research and Publication Dr. Kevin Golden takes some time to introduce new faculty member Rev. Joel Fritsche. Fritsche recently joined the Seminary as assistant professor of Exegetical Theology and director of Vicarage and Deaconess Internships. For more than two decades, Fritsche served The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) as a pastor, church planter, missionary and theological educator in the United States and in the Dominican Republic. He succeeds Dr. Glenn Nielsen who concluded 33 years of service as director of Vicarage and Deaconess Internships at the end of the 2022-23 academic year. Since 2014, Fritsche has served as a missionary pastor and church planter in the Dominican Republic. From 201723, he also has served as the director and professor of biblical languages at Concordia Seminary the Reformer, where he helped form Lutheran pastors and deaconesses for partner churches and mission fields throughout Latin America. His areas of interest include Greek, Hebrew and Old Testament exegesis. “I moved around a lot in the church in the last 23 or so year,” he says. “In some ways I lamented that. In other ways, looking back, all of those experiences … seem to come together in my new role here on the faculty.” Learn more about Fritsche.https://scholar.csl.edu/cjc/1088/thumbnail.jp

    Fribourg/Freiburg, Couvent des Cordeliers/Franziskanerkloster, Ms. 66 : Fritsche Closener, German-Latin and Latin-German Lexicon

    No full text
German-Latin and Latin-German dictionary by the cleric Fritsche Closener; in 1384 Friedrich von Amberg (guardian in Fribourg, † 1432) had the scribe Gregorius copy this lexicon (colophon f. 101v). This is an important, alphabetically-arranged dictionary with brief translations of words, with additions and supplements by Friedrich von Amberg. The 14th/15th century binding with wooden boards and formerly with a chain was completely restored by Father Otho Raymann in 1998 (see ms. 139 regarding the original binding). The originally loose parts of the manuscript (f. B, ff. I-XX) are now securely bound.Online Since: 2017-12-1

Unit labor cost growth differentials in the Euro area, Germany, and the US: lessons from PANIC and cluster analysis

    No full text
Inflation differentials in the Euro area are mainly due to a sustained divergence of wage developments across the Euro area, and narrower differences in labour productivity growth (Alvarez et al., 2006). We investigate convergence of inflation using unit labour cost (ULC) growth and applying PANIC (Bai and Ng, 2002, 2004) and cluster procedures (Hobijn and Franses, 2000, Busetti et al., 2006) to Euro area countries as well as US States, US Census Regions and German Laender. Euro area differs in that dispersion in general (and its fraction due to idiosyncratic factors in specific) is larger and common factors are much less important in explaining the variance of ULC growth. We report evidence for convergence clusters in all countries.Unit labor costs, inflation, European Monetary Union, Germany, United States of America, convergence, convergence clubs, panel unit root tests, PANIC

Freiheit - Recht - Staat | Eine Aufsatzsammlung zum 65. Geburtstag. Hrsg. von Dagmar I. Siebold / Angelika Emmerich-Fritsche

Die Themen "Freiheit - Recht - Staat" stehen im Mittelpunkt des wissenschaftlichen Wirkens von Professor Dr. iur. Karl Albrecht Schachtschneider.

Slc11a1 limits intracellular growth of Salmonella enterica sv. Typhimurium by promoting macrophage immune effector functions and impairing bacterial iron acquisition

    No full text
The natural resistance-associated macrophage protein 1, Slc11a1, is a phagolysosomal transporter for protons and divalent ions including iron that confers host protection against diverse intracellular pathogens including Salmonella. We investigated and compared the regulation of iron homeostasis and immune function in RAW264.7 murine phagocytes stably transfected with non-functional Slc11a1 and functional Slc11a1 controls in response to an infection with Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium. We report that macrophages lacking functional Slc11a1 displayed an increased expression of transferrin receptor 1, resulting in enhanced acquisition of transferrin-bound iron. In contrast, cellular iron release mediated via ferroportin 1 was significantly lower in Salmonella-infected Slc11a1-negative macrophages in comparison with phagocytes bearing Slc11a1. Lack of Slc11a1 led to intracellular persistence of S.?enterica serovar Typhimurium within macrophages, which was paralleled by a reduced formation of nitric oxide, tumour necrosis factor-alpha and interleukin-6 in Slc11a1-negative macrophages following Salmonella infection, whereas interleukin-10 production was increased. Moreover, Slc11a1-negative phagocytes exhibited higher cellular iron content, resulting in increased iron acquisition by intracellular Salmonella. Our observations indicate a bifunctional role for Slc11a1 within phagocytes. Slc11a restricts iron availability, which first augments pro-inflammatory macrophage effector functions and second concomitantly limits microbial iron access. <br/

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    No full text
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Composing Moods : My experience of composing for a cross- genre ensemble of improvisers

    No full text
My master’s thesis project is about creating music for piano and improvising ensemble based on compositions that set the ground for an open improvisation. I wanted to find out methods of how to write and communicate a piece that gives the performing musician a maximum freedom to interpret their parts and still share the same vision of the piece. In order to get there I tried out different strategies of composing and different instrumentations. I also compare this project to previous ones and examine how the playing with the ensemble in this project affected my own style of playing. The exam concert together with this thesis document the process and outcome of this project.Composer: Johann Fritsche.Musicians: Johanne Skaansar, Viola, Samuel Lazar Eriksson, Violoncello, August Eriksson, Double Bass, Fiach O’Briain, Drums, Johann Fritsche, Piano.Uploaded media file: Johann Fritsche's exam concert. </p

Adjustment in EMU: Is Convergence Assured?

    No full text
Using a modified version of the model presented by Belke and Gros (2007), we analyze the stability of adjustment in a currency union. Using econometric estimates for parameter values we check the stability conditions for the 11 original EMU countries and Greece. We found significant instability in the model for a large number of countries. We then simulate the adjustment process for some empirically observed parameter values and find that even for countries with relatively smooth adjustment, the adjustment to a price shock in EMU might take several decades. Keywords: EMU, convergence, stability.EMU, convergence, stability, inflation
